I mentioned the other day about whether hospitals were knowingly discharging covid patients into care homes hence the epidemic there. I read an article earlier saying this could in fact be true and they are investigating. I said I thought there was a bigger question to answer as 84% of care homes are privately owned.

Will be interesting to watch our R rate now. I think it's just as well the weather is not great for the next week so everyone doesn't rush out at once.

does anyone havve any figures about what happens when covid enters a care home - what percentage of people in that contained space are getting the disease. Quietly panicking as MIL is in a I THINK) 75 bed home that seems to have had one or two staff who have brought it in, 2 positive residents and 1 resident who has died.

@Barracker are you around to start a new thread?

If not, does someone else want to take it on. I nominate BigChoc or Neurotrash or Shoots cos I love them Grin - I'm sure there are others I've missed out.

There was an interesting bit on the Irish news tonight about prisons - apparently there have been no cases among prisoners, though a few staff have tested positive or been isolated as suspected cases.

I know testing has been concentrated on spaces such as prisons. It's a pity we didn't know more earlier about the effect on care homes as similar precautions could (and should) have been taken.

I think the opposite... People outside are low risk. If the weather’s bad, some of those garden meet-ups will occur indoors instead.

I'm sorry for being a little distracted this last week

Here is THREAD 8

My sincere thanks to you all for continuing the discussion. I'll be joining you properly again in due course, but am content in the knowledge that there are many others providing excellent updates and insights, and my contribution can be reduced to starting the occasional thread for a while Smile
