Bumpandus · 27/04/2020 17:54

Obviously no one can predict anything

But what are your opinions of what will happen and why?

For example:

Lockdown still for a few more weeks?
Or Ease restrictions but how?

Just interested in people’s thoughts.

Scotland, Wales and NI have all said schools won't open until after the summer. The entire country is working to the same overall plan and its clearly been decided this was the case early on so I don't know why they can't just be clear this will be the case in England too and give people some definite information.

LaureBerthaud · 30/04/2020 09:05

@Discobar I can only assume you have been sniffing glue

What a lame insult.

cantory · 30/04/2020 09:07

@banjaxxed Exactly. It makes sense to plan.

shampooandtea · 30/04/2020 09:17

Scotland, Wales and NI have all said schools won't open until after the summer. Th

Bilbo has this been said officially. I thought it was just hinted at, at the start but things change?

shampooandtea · 30/04/2020 09:18

I know, I'm passing my time by contemplating the ways that various governments will spin the .2/.3% (or less) mortality of covid19 to make it seem more reasonable in hindsight.*

Well said

Can't believe some people are still face down, bums up.

cantory · 30/04/2020 09:39

@shampooandtea Amazing that random people can be so sure the mortality rate is far lower than qualified epidemiologists who have been studying this virus.
There is zero evidence that the overall mortality rate is that low. It is that low in low risk groups.

shampooandtea · 30/04/2020 09:41

I know. I mean they maybe right. I don't think they are but I would not say anything with absolute confidence as its so new.

cantory · 30/04/2020 09:56

@shampooandtea And actual scientists are saying you can't say anything with absolute confidence right now. It will take extensive testing of who has had it to come up with a more definite number.
I just wonder why you so confidently predict a far lower death rate than anyone who is qualified and studying this in detail?

daisymay133 · 30/04/2020 09:58

I think the info about schools was earlier when they predicted peak would be May

Not it’s been earlier maybe that’s changed plans

I defo think they’ll open June but limited provision hence the ordering of iPads etc

banjaxxed · 30/04/2020 11:11

I don't think much will change until 1st June but at that point there will be relaxation in terms of further businesses opening and school returning in some capacity.

To be honest, I am a bit perplexed at the people who say keeping kids off school until September will help - that will make it worse as we could potentially have the second peak in flu season.

Is it not better to have a higher peak over summer?

Ethelfleda · 30/04/2020 11:14

Few have already said but I would agree - my opinion (and I think it’s important not to state your opinion as fact) is that they will extend for another 3 weeks but start to give an idea of how restrictions will be lifted after that to give notice.

Fortyandfabulous · 30/04/2020 11:24

I'm hoping its relaxed slightly... my 14 year old took an overdose ten days ago and ended up in hospital :( This was a direct result of struggling with the uncertainty and lack of routine/end date to this.

Endless lockdown has significant impacts on areas that are not directly Covid related.

1dayatatime · 30/04/2020 11:25

@letseatgrandma - the link you requested showing children don't pass COVID to adults. Basically there is no evidence from any of the track and trace activities across the world of a child ever passing COVID to an adult.

apple.news/AnSw90nS4TuayJY0-bO1zEg

There is also a link in this article to the Don't blow bubbles medical report.

vanillandhoney · 30/04/2020 11:27

They'll extend it. There's just no way they'll start to relax it over May bank holiday weekend!

I think we have another three weeks at least, which takes us to the end of May, then they'll start slowly, slowly relaxing things. But I think it will take months for things to go back to normal and very few people will be back in normal work etc. anytime soon.

1dayatatime · 30/04/2020 11:33

@fortyand fabulous- I am so so sorry to hear about your 14 year old taking an overdose and pray he / she is OK.

It breaks my heart to have read your post. The chances of an under 20 dying from corona are currently 1 in 1.6 million (source NHS COVID data) lower in fact than being hit by lightening at 1 in 1.2 million. Also from the Don't blow bubbles medical report there is absolutely no evidence of a child ever passing COVID to an adult (apple.news/AnSw90nS4TuayJY0-bO1zEg).

As far as under 20s are concerned the whole lockdown is totally pointless and will cause far far more deaths than the virus ever will.

It also makes me quite angry given that

imsooverthisdrama · 30/04/2020 11:36

My thoughts are that it's not as if on the 7th May they will go oh everything back to normal now guys. It will be phased and likely from the Monday 11th but subtly like non essential businesses more takeaways etc . Garden centres i see no reason to open if B&Q are open .
For many it will be no different but it would be good if we can have some idea when we can see extended family.
The lockdown per say will continue I think but it will phased this has already been said so it won't be the same as is today . They simply must start with a exit strategy but i suspect that they are watching other countries with keen interest.

gingercat02 · 30/04/2020 12:12

I doubt Scotland and NI schools will go back. They finish for the summer in June. English and Welsh schools might for a few weeks part time

Bumpandus · 30/04/2020 18:03

What’s everyone’s views since Boris’ latest conference?
So at least we now know we will get a road map but will anything be eased by next week??

OP posts:
Discobar · 30/04/2020 18:07

@bumpandus - can't see too much being eased, if anything. All about the R! And no second peak. Lockdown extended by another 3 weeks

Parker231 · 30/04/2020 18:08

Now that it’s being forecast that the U.K. may have the highest number of COVID deaths in Europe, I can’t imagine anything changing soon.

MarshaBradyo · 30/04/2020 18:09

Keeping R0 under 1 isn’t easy so not much I assume and slowly.

Mightymurphy · 30/04/2020 18:13

Our schools in Scotland finish in July. On the first. I think they will go back. Perhaps primary 7 for high school induction.

And Nicola Sturgeon has said schools may be closed until after the Summer. Not that they will be.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 30/04/2020 18:19

Judging by the news, some level of relaxation next week.

I still think deaths are quite high though

fessmess · 30/04/2020 18:25

This briefing felt like a sea change for me. It's been "too early to ease lockdown " for ages, from Raab. Now it's all "we're past the peak" and lots of noises about economy. I also thought the deaths were high and why no transport usage graph? Car use has been increasing. I think he's preparing us for an easing of restrictions.

MarshaBradyo · 30/04/2020 18:27

It does feel like a good thing to get a plan next week.
