Are people seriously moaning about this? Are we turning on the nurses now?

well if you are putting your own life on the line then maybe it is ok for you to criticise

The point is, most of the people in these videos are not putting their lives on the line. They are the ones on the empty wards with nothing to do. The actual doctors and nurses in ICUs are too busy to be messing about on tiktok. These dancing morons are trying to get credit for being on the front line when actually they are doing virtually nothing. It's so cringe.
I work mainly in the community and struggle to get PPE to visit vulnerable patients. To see these wasters prance about in full PPE is so galling, especially when my patients have stayed at home despite suspected strokes etc "to protect the NHS"

MegCleary · 23/04/2020 08:03

I’m a nurse and my phone is in a sealed plastic bag in the glove box of my car when I work and wiped with a bleach wipe (if any use!) when I come home, strip and scub myself. Video if you want but hope they’re careful.

Itisasecret · 23/04/2020 08:08

It is cringeworthy, along with all the selfies in valuable PPE. Mobile phones? Infection control? It’s like most of the military cringing when people call them heroic. These videos remind me of all the walts who turn up to every remembrance parade, constant selfies in uniform, lapping up being a hero and they’ve not seen a tour of duty in their lives. There are other sections of society and public workers putting themselves at risk too. No doubt we will see more people out infecting each other tonight, asking as we clap for Instagram though.

Gruffawoah · 23/04/2020 08:16

You would think so, wouldn't you? That a 21st century functioning health service in the West would be able to do so..

The issue is that there is a nauseating sentimentality to the NHS, so people except below par care, because we are constantly made to feel grateful that it exists. Even the tagline 'stay home, protect the NHS' is at odds with everywhere else, the health system is supposed to protect us. Instead let's guilt and burden people into thinking that if you dare to go in you'll be putting it under strain, and not because it's wildly inefficient and poorly managed that it cannot cope. I love the concept of the NHS, it's one of our greatest achievements, but it is not fit for purpose anymore. It is criminal that they are shouting about us winning, the NHS is coping when it is only so because people are being either denied treatment for non covid stuff, or have to be ridiculously poorly to be 'allowed' into hospital. Any other healthcare system would be questioned, but not our beloved NHS. We keep it running by sacrificing others who have no choice but to die at home. It's okay though, there's time for funny dances. I know it's the minority, the staff are by far the greatest asset to the NHS and do incredible work despite being constantly shat on, but things like this are in such poor taste at the moment.

vixxo · 23/04/2020 08:23

I'm a doctor and this seems inappropriate and unprofessional to me. Do it in your own time and don't let it circulate on social media, leave it to the kids on TikTok. Most importantly, the dance routines are fucking stupid and cringeworthy.

Fortheloveofscience · 23/04/2020 08:24

In our local hospital then no, generally people don't have anything to do and this is 100% being done in work time. ITU is busy but well-staffed. The rest of the hospital is half empty. My DH's department finished at lunchtime yesterday then spent the rest of the day crafting "thank you NHS" type stuff in the office and choreographing these videos (yes - using PPE unnecessarily Angry).

Maybe the posters who claimed that the "NHS hospitals are quiet" thread was deliberate story planting by the Tories can see these videos as evidence that they were probably wrong?

CassidyStone · 23/04/2020 08:26

The trust I work for has always had a policy about social media. Absolutely nothing must be posted online regarding work, regardless of whether it is positive and complimentary. If anyone posted a selfie at work, it would lead to disciplinary action.

As for these dancing nurses in full PPE, I'm baffled at their line manager allowing this to happen. I can understand a morale-boosting team talk at the start of the shift, but these NHS workers with too much time on their hands are bringing us all into disrepute.

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 08:27

Maybe the multiple posters writing about cancelled cancer treatments and being told to stay at home while struggling to breathe are all Tory plants too? Because, you know, this level of incompetence reflects so well on the government. Is your tinfoil hat making your ears itch?

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 08:30

Absolutely agree. It is ludicrous. The author of the Francis Report into Mid Staffs said long before this current crisis that the gap between the reality of the NHS and its rhetoric was a serious problem. The current situation exemplifies this. The cancer backlog alone will inevitably result in unnecessary deaths. And the UK already has one of the worst cancer survival rates in the developed world.

MooChops89 · 23/04/2020 08:32

I'm a midwife, I'm pregnant but still working albeit not patient facing. Our unit has been much quieter than normal, we've had only a small handful of women testing positive for Covid and my colleagues have been relentless in the TikToks and clapping videos and PPE selfies, all during shift hours. Its driving me mad! I had a conversation at work the other day about the public being unhappy about the lack of social distancing in the clapping videos and almost got my head bitten off, "It makes us feel a bit of happiness in these difficult times" - you've sat on your arse eating free Dominos all day, we've got 6 women on a usually heaving PN ward! I definitely feel some colleagues are revelling in the hero worship. Meanwhile I have friends on ICU taking a battering who are far too exhausted to do any of this crap.

@BovaryX I was saying that the posters who had claimed this should have a re-think - it wasn't me!! I've posted repeatedly saying that the hospitals are deathly quiet and that the level of non-COVID deaths likely to happen because of this is astonishing. I was amazed that there was such a pile-on in the other thread claiming it was fake news!

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 08:33

@Itisasecret

I'm curious. What is a 'walts?'

Laniakea · 23/04/2020 08:33

So much to say by people who have time to browse TokTok

Here’s an idea: google lockdown + mass unemployment + economic disaster.

50% of France’s private sector workers are now unemployed, 11 million people. That’ll be us very soon. So we can save the NHS.

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 08:34

Ha! Well said! Mea Culpa...

vera99 · 23/04/2020 08:37

I can see Strictly having a reboot when all this is over. Grin

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 08:38

From The Times

the NHS will reopen “within very short order” for routine care, the health secretary said yesterday amid warnings that 60,000 cancer patients could die through lack of treatment or diagnosis. Matt Hancock told the Commons that the coronavirus peak had been reached and that hospitals again had the capacity to attend to victims of cancer, heart attacks and strokes. Routine surgery would resume shortly, with the NHS having 10,000 free beds and with the outbreak no longer worsening, he said

Gruffawoah · 23/04/2020 08:39

What is a 'walts?'

Someone who pretends to either be a serving member of the armed forces or a veteran, often buying uniform and medals online, and turning up to parades etc to soak in the adoration of the public having not actually served a day in the military.

Intothefuture · 23/04/2020 08:39

Will the hospitals get the message that the public do not appreciate the dancing videos and they should be deleted or banned? I wonder if people are complaining directly.

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 08:40

Wow. Thank you for explaining. That is quite shocking.

FrameByFrame · 23/04/2020 08:43

You don't see staff in the care homes putting on dance routines. They are working flat out (with very little PPE) to care for the poor souls left to die in their beds so as not to overwhelm the NHS dance team!

StitchInLime · 23/04/2020 08:44

Like others say, if it lifts their spirits, great!

BUT...

If any of my mum's cancer treatment is delayed with coronavirus used as an excuse (we were told she should have an op in 2 weeks but were yesterday told it might be delayed), this is going to piss me right off especially as one of the trusts doing this dance is our trust!

vera99 · 23/04/2020 08:47

There is a Titanic video.....

The nurses I know wouldn't claim to be angels. That has come from the media. Some have put photos on Facebook. Some haven't. I already knew they were nurses so seeing the photos is no surprise. I don't think they are looking for hero worship.
Someone mentioned the dancing nurses looking deranged. I suspect some may be struggling. When they trained they didn't expect to see what they are seeing now.

Loren777 · 23/04/2020 09:02

Absolutely agree with you and after watching the nurse Kate Shemirani on FB and the brave nurse in NYC showing unused ventilators and telling his experience - Nurse admits the virus is a lie . Its all making my head spin and want to do a lot more research as there's always 2 sides to this? And no-one knows it all.
