Are people seriously moaning about this? Are we turning on the nurses now?

well if you are putting your own life on the line then maybe it is ok for you to criticise

Dont be ridiculous, there is no need for anyone to post videos online for attention. And no being a super special keyworker doesn't making anyone immune from criticism.

There’s a sign in Barclays asking NHS workers to come to the front of the queue, because if they’re in a bank at a time like this then their need must be critical.

Those words.

I AM an nhs worker and I just face palmed. It’s mad hero worshipping stuff like this that will turn the public against us. Most clinical staff work three long days. So that’s 4 days off! There’s time to go to the bloody bank or Tesco.

Not 'angels'.

Just people."

So much to say by people who have time to browse TokTok all day Wink

I very much doubt any patient was told “I’ll sort out your morphine drip later, can’t do it now, they’re ready for my close up “

That surely applies to anyone posting anything on social media and to anyone choosing to go on it and read it.

What? Hundreds of thousands of people have time on their hands (and no pay) at the moment. Not by choice. What’s your point?

I very much doubt any patient was told “I’ll sort out your morphine drip later, can’t do it now, they’re ready for my close up

No, but many thousands of patients have been told ‘sorry, you can’t come in for your treatment/operation/investigations/counselling/physio because we haven’t time or capacity.’

Lots of people have been and ARE being denied treatment and told not to go to hospital.

Yes the fall from grace (not asked for) has started.
A minority are being inappropriate. It’s very busy and stressful where I work, no time for dancing, wouldn’t dream of posting anything frivolous. . However, there are a lot of people - supermarket workers, train drivers etc who also are working hard.
I think this negativity towards the nhs will suit the Tory party agenda we’ll - sadly.

The isolation is protecting lives so we can treat everyone. It’s not really protect the nhs.

I have to say I hadn't thought about this too much before reading the thread and my initial reaction was that people should stop complaining. However, having read the thread I'm now in agreement with those who find the videos in bad taste. Yes they're probably done on breaks or shift change, yes perhaps they practice outside of work in their own time but silly dances in hospitals whilst wearing PPE while an unprecedented number of people are dying and others have had life saving treatment cancelled seems in very bad taste and as others have said, very tone deaf. I'm a public services key worker (not NHS) and I can't imagine our bosses being at all supportive of is posting ridiculous dances on social media.

Monstermissy36 · 23/04/2020 07:25

I don't like to see the ones where staff are in the floor... I seen someone do 'the worm' in full PPE and others in scrubs crawling on the floor! Can't imagine it's good for infection control and surely a waste of PPE? Unless they still work in it after it's been on the floor and that is grim!

Oh I forgot your opinions don't count unless you're fighting on the frontline, or if your job has been affected by all of this, my fucking bad. No, it's not about patients in the hospital being neglected, its the fact that there are empty wards and people too terrified to go in when they need to, dying at home, or have had their treatment cancelled and some think it's a fun idea to film a dance in those empty wards and post it for likes and comments. How dare anyone criticise our beloved NHS though.

And yes bossycat, but there's another level to it when you hashtag it NHS to drown yourself in praise in the comments, obviously in PPE with reference to being on the frontline.

They shouldn’t bang on about being overworked, stressed and lack of PPE then do this.

It’s not like it was an impromptu dance. They must’ve practised it.

If I was an NHS nurse/doctor in a non-COVID setting and was twiddling my thumbs, I’d be feeling embarrassed at the hero worship being directed at me, and angry that I couldn’t do my job. But it seems some have had their heads turned by the hype, and are treating this as some kind of festival of self-adulation. It will doubtless be those NHS workers who will line up tonight outside hospitals to clap themselves and soak in the adulation whilst those on COVID wards risk their lives. It’s so depressing... I’m thinking i’ll pass on the clapping tonight. It’s being abused and distorted.

Beginning of March I was in an NHS hospital over hearing NHS management loudly re organise entrances to "dirty" and "clean" entrances. And then total radio silence from the NHS on cancer treatment and all other morbidities for 5 weeks, banging of saucepans every Thursday and all that whilst we are being told the incredibly expensive Nightingale hospitals cannot be staffed and are empty - and then we see NHS staff dancing in car parks

@Bubblebu
Your post is a powerful indictment of the current situation. It is shocking that people like yourself requiring urgent treatment have been put on hold for who knows how long. It is a failure of NHS management and ultimately of the government and when the eventual inquiry happens, both will be exposed. I hope. The best of luck to you Bubble, you should not be in this situation and those responsible must be held accountable.

And even if they practice at home I'm very doubtful that it goes right on the first take. My daughter tried teaching me one recently and it took many takes to get it right (unless that's just me!)

Oh, I agree: the whole world has gone mad. Everyone ‘curating’ their lives, the public indulging in hero worship and in turn living fantasy life of ‘saving the NHS’ by showering them with Easter Eggs, nurses have to be seen as total martyrs, angels etc.... Social Media had turned the public into an ‘audience’ and the truth is that everyone does sit around consuming the ‘image’ that people create of their lives.

Back in the real world I dare say nurses, whether they did a quick dance routine or not, are getting in with their jobs, and people at home who post endless pictures of their dinners and homeschooling projects are actually bored out of their skulls and snapping at their kids.

We all just spend so much time ‘presenting my ourselves and commenting and judging others.

I am a nurse and it’s pissing me off. The initial ones passing on the “Stay at Home” message were fine. Now it seems everyone is doing it.

My SIL is a critical care nurse and they certainly haven’t had the time or energy to make any silly videos. They have been VERY busy with this virus and too stressed about the lack of PPE.

My hope is that the Nightingale hospitals will eventually take many COVID patients and that hospitals will have designated areas. I wouid hope then that cancer treatments can start once more...tbh that’s what’s really concerning to me.

I get that cancer patients are very vulnerable to this virus but there must be a way of keeping treatment going safely.

dementedma · 23/04/2020 07:51

Not bothered by the videos but a lot of hospitals aren't overwhelmed, and have lots of empty beds at the moment. This is a good thing, the opposite would be awful, but yes, actually, there are a lot of nursing staff who do have time on their hands due to everything but Covid related stuff being cancelled.

You would think so, wouldn't you? That a 21st century functioning health service in the West would be able to do so. But apparently not. The dancing and the pot banging are particularly inappropriate given the fact that the message to the public is 'protect the NHS' while the NHS fails to treat patients with cancer. It's beyond parody.

I think it was good at first ,but after the umpteeth time has become a bit wearing TBH! Apart from Corona ,the BBC news has just stated that many people who have Cancer /waiting to be diagnosed are not getting the right treatment due to the outbreak. So dancing medics is not going to go down too well!

Definitely. If they can do it in other countries, there's no reason for it to be different in the UK.

I'm in Korea. Why is it that I could go to the hospital for a completely unnecessary appointment when things were at their peak here and not even have to wait to see a doctor?

Total mismanagement in the UK, it is honestly shockingly bad.
