It’s a no from me!

I understand why you can’t participate if you have tested positive for COVID but what if you have had it without being tested? How will that differ?

okiedokieme · 22/04/2020 07:36

Dd was sent the details on phase 1, lots more money than this but didn't want to.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 22/04/2020 07:57

They'd hardly be calling for test volunteers once through testing was complete!

I obviously meant I don't want to volunteer for this but will have the vaccine if/when testing is complete and it is deemed safe for the general population.

I’d happily do it if it was anywhere close to where I live.

soccerbabe · 22/04/2020 08:16

I'ld seriously consider it if they were offering this in my area for mainly selfish reasons - I'm fat and have high blood pressure so to me a vaccination potentially seems less risky than getting the virus. (nb if those issues didn't actually exclude me from the trial)

lubeybooby · 22/04/2020 08:18

I would if it were in my area. We need a vaccine and to get there and be approved it HAS to be thoroughly tested. If not enough step up the plate then we don't get a vaccine

Purplewithred · 22/04/2020 08:23

Too old! Notably a 6 month trial so we shouldn’t be holding our breath for a vaccination as a short term solution to our problems.

kimlo · 22/04/2020 08:26

I would they wouldn't even need to pay me.

But I don't live in the right area, I have asthma, I had what my doctor said was flu with a high temerature and a cough at the very end of Feburary in to the begining of March.

They don't want me.

TinyTear · 22/04/2020 08:32

if my kids were older i would do it in a heartbeat... not sure with young kids
x

LeFluffyPants · 22/04/2020 08:37

I’ve gone ahead and registered for it in my area, looks like I’m eligible.

As smiletho said above, I’d do it even if it was unpaid as I’d like to help and there’s not much else useful I can do, sadly!

Cailleach · 22/04/2020 08:38

If they were doing trials anywhere in the North, I would, but as usual, they aren't :(

FinallyHere · 22/04/2020 08:38

Rejected from the first phase as too old

Five years over the 55 year cut off

Since reaching adulthood, this is the first thing where my age has stopped me doing something I really wanted to do.

🙁

Still logging my (absence of) symptoms daily.

If the UK was the first in the world to find a vaccine it would be a great feather in our cap after years of crazy behaviour in the eyes of the world

EdithWeston · 22/04/2020 08:51

They are doing my area but I think I'll leave it until it's been thoroughly tested

The 'it' that is the subject of the thread is volunteering for vaccine trials

I obviously meant I don't want to volunteer for this but will have the vaccine if/when testing is complete

Thank you for clarifying that your 'it' was something different.

Powerplant · 22/04/2020 08:55

My OH was really disappointed to find out he is too old to volunteer

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 22/04/2020 08:55

Yes I’ve signed up. DH has agreed to drive me there if necessary. I have hypothyroidism though, and declared it on the form, so I’m not sure whether it will disqualify me when a human checks it.

Annacarter · 22/04/2020 08:56

Would if they were doing up north like another poster said.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 22/04/2020 08:58

The money varies by area by the way, I don’t know why, and it’s only 200 odd in London. Looking at the time commitment including travel it’s not fabulous money per hour, but that’s not why I’m doing it, obvs.

Would do if I was in the right area. Also breastfeeding which rules me out. If both those things change then yes. I have no problems with folks sitting on park benches though

SouthWestmom · 22/04/2020 09:04

I would but am not in an area of testing. Downloaded the information sheet and I'm not eligible as I have a bleeding disorder.
Disappointing, I'm the right age group and if they extended it I would have been happy to do something useful. Only £235 though

MoonlightMistletoe · 22/04/2020 09:06

No thanks I'm not a guinea pig

DelurkingAJ · 22/04/2020 09:10

Not in the right area. Would in a heartbeat if I was (and could get work to release me...officially a key worker but not convinced at all!).

111999A · 22/04/2020 09:15

Tried to but I’m just outside the area. If people didn’t volunteer for these then here would be no new cures for anything. I’ve just finished a trial for a painkiller for arthritis. It’s been really interesting.
