You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

it's to do with the purpose of the outing, which should be for exercise.

Yes. But given that we don’t live in a facist utopia (shame, right?) it is deemed ok if not every single second of the outing is spent at maximum physical capacity and a snack is eaten.

Thank the sweet lord we don’t have people like you in charge!

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 19:48

A walk is exercise. I did t notice any specification on speed.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 19:49

Great. Then we can all go out and do as we please.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 19:50

Here’s a clue hear

If the police say it’s okay, it is.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 19:51

It’s probably even okay to pause while you’re out, take a deep breath, admire a flower, the sunset.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/04/2020 19:51

Excellent point chardonnays

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 19:51

Here's a clue Laurie

The police aren't drs or public health experts. They are advising only on the law. Not what is safe, healthy or advisable.

itsgettingweird · 21/04/2020 19:52

Exactly. Exercise is not necessarily a 5k run.

For families with young children it is never going to be that. For the elderly it's unlikely to be that. It's moving the body at a speed greater than able to within the home. Basically anything where the Heart rate is likely to be increased.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 19:54

The police aren't drs or public health experts. They are advising only on the law. Not what is safe, healthy or advisable.

And government has briefed them thus.

I know you’d argue black was white til you couldn’t breath, but it’s totally ridiculous now.

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 19:55

Imagine a world where people used their own judgement to decide whether having a snack whilst outside was a risk.

I know. I’m being silly. Forgive me

Laniakea · 21/04/2020 19:56

We all ate rocky road while out on our evening stroll. It was lovely.

Didn’t sit on any park benches but the children rolled down the grassy hill. Repeatedly. And I stopped to take pictures of the wild flowers (weeds Grin )

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 19:57

It's nothing to do with the food being eaten, it's to do with the purpose of the outing, which should be for exercise.

Then why mention its high fat food. Its not relevant.

Yep, eating battered sausage and chips on your walk is exercise in the same way as smoking 40 B & H and drinking a can of Tennant's on your walk is exercise

No. Walking is exercise. Doesn't matter what else you are doing, whilst walking. You are still walking, therefore exercising.

Whatever else you are doing, you are still walking, still exercising.

Well, I'm not arguing with myself am I?

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 20:02

Well, I'm not arguing with myself am I?

I’m not quite sure what you’re doing tbh.

The law is clear. The police briefing is clear. We’re supposed to put greater weight on your opinion, why exactly? Confused

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 20:02

The government have four reasons to leave home. One of them was "exercise". None of them was "leisure". Strolling to the park for a picnic is leisure, not exercise.

Its both.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 20:07

The law is clear. The police briefing is clear. We’re supposed to put greater weight on your opinion, why exactly?

Because we aren't taking about the law. The law is the very minimum that we should be doing. There is further guidance that we should also be following. It isn't law to avoid public transport is it - should we all be going on bus rides because the law doesn't forbid it?

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 20:09

I wish someone would clear up whether eating a battered sausage whilst out is ok?

Would a pukka pie be going too far?

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 20:11

There is further guidance that we should also be following.

The further guidance says its OK to sit down

AWryGiraffe · 21/04/2020 20:17

I think the rule is that you can exercise but you can't under any circumstances enjoy it.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 20:18

I wish someone would clear up whether eating a battered sausage whilst out is ok?

Sure. On the bright side maybe the myocardial infarction will get you before COVID19 does.

BirdieFriendReturns · 21/04/2020 20:20

Wow, “shielding” really makes some special people come out of the woodwork...

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 20:23

Is a myocardial infarction due to the stress of not knowing whether I can eat a battered sausage outside or because of the battered sausage itself?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 20:25

Still wondering about whether we can all.go.out for a bus ride - you know, as it isn't against the law? Must be ok right?

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 20:26

What about snacks on buses!!!! I think we need a new thread.....

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 20:27

We can all see why riding a bus is a risk for the surest of CV.

Sitting down, eating, outside not so much.
