The “I just had a sit down in the park with crisps” brigade

You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

What a strange thing to do and it does suggest the motivation is more around having a pleasant time than exercising.

Going for a leisurely walk IS exercising.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 10:56

I am still working. But from home.

I walk my dogs and take the kids. We don't sit down, because the field is 3 minute walk from the house.

I shop every 10 days. I don't work out how the rules don't apply to me.

However, the whole you are the problem is total bollocks. People can go out and sit and have a snack if they want, as part of their exercise. Its not even against the rules.

The whole pandemic is just an excuse for a group of people, who have always been bitter and judgemental of everybody else, to voice it.

Being as miserable as possible isn't helping. The point of lockdown was not 100% compliance.

Funny how the judgmental frothing are usually the ones most misinformed.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 21/04/2020 10:57

I feel embarrassed for those saying "what if everyone sat down on a bench".

Indeed. And what if they did? They containment stage is passed.

Somehow I will never watch the opening credits of 'Bottom' in quite the same way again ...

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 10:57

Also have u seen the thread saying hospitals are empty lockdown needs to end

Have you seen the death rates in the community published today? 76% increase on last week. Maybe the hospitals are emptier because people are dying in the community rather than in hospital. Maybe lockdown shouldn't end whilst so many people are dying?

FindHimForThreeKillHimForTen · 21/04/2020 10:57

it is most definitely a way to contract the virus, without a doubt

It's not actually without a doubt at all. It is an untested theory that is not stacking up particularly well to the science as it's being learned through this outbreak.

TheStuffedPenguin · 21/04/2020 11:00

Stop discriminating against the disabled

Oh FFS no one is talking about this and you know it !

Littlemeadow123 · 21/04/2020 11:00

It's not against the guidelines. You can stop briefly for a snack if you need to, as long as you are not restricting other people's movements. The biggest problem we currently face, and it has been a massive problem since long before coronavirus even existed, is people being nasty and judgemental.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 11:01

I feel embarrassed for those saying "what if everyone sat down on a bench". Well numpty it's fine as long as they're social distancing.

Really? Maybe Google "fomite" and then explain how a bench can't be one? Numpty

Brogley · 21/04/2020 11:01

@misskatamari, I take the DC out for a walk either alone or with DH too and it's not exercise for us as it's like herding cats most of the time. That's part of the reason we take a stomp rocket to the rugby fields so they can run around. DH or I will then go out separately for our own exercise if we feel the need to, which isn't every day, we also have DC with SN who sometimes need to go out more than once too.

Candodad · 21/04/2020 11:02

Hospitals empty therefore stop lockdown? Doesn’t that mean the same thought process works that firefighters aren’t always busy so stop using fire prevention materials?

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 21/04/2020 11:02

I completely agree. The guild one for needing a rest is for people who NEED a rest, not for the people who wanted a day out with the family.

Absolutely makes my shit itch that people think they can bend the rules to be ‘within’ the guild ones. It’s so selfish. Just stay home. Go for a long enough walk that you’ve had some fresh air and exercise then go home. Perhaps think about eating before you go if you think you’re going to not be able to resist packing a lunch to take.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 21/04/2020 11:03

Sitting alone for 5 minutes eating crisps = bad
Standing on your doorstep clapping for 5 minutes, talking to people = good?

Nope can't see the irony here [hmmm]

Makeitgoaway · 21/04/2020 11:04

Our infection rates are no worse than counties where lockdown has been tighter. Whilst in theory touching the bench might be a risk there is no actual evidence that it is being transmitted that way. In countries that have done contact tracing, no one has caught it from touching a surface alone.

Also we have to get away from this peculiar idea that lockdown is supposed to prevent individuals getting ill. It's not, it's to prevent everyone being ill at once. If you want to remove all risk of you personally getting it, it's a very long time before you will be leaving your house.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 11:05

Where’s the ‘unnecessary contact’ in sitting on a bench by yourself?

The bench. It's always been known that you can contract this from a surface that has droplet contamination. An infected person sits on the bench 30 minutes before you get there and sneezes, or coughs, puts their hands on the bench and then you sit down, touch the bench and then eat your crisps - why is that not a potential route of infection?

WhatDoIDooDIoDtahW · 21/04/2020 11:05

Guidelines* 🙄

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 11:07

FindHimForThreeKillHimForTen

Droplet contamination of surfaces isn't a route of infection? Since when? Can you give links to the research that is showing this not to be true?

Makeitgoaway · 21/04/2020 11:08

In sorry OP but you've just demonstrated you dont get it at all. The Lockdown's only purpose was to give the NHS a chance. If it has spare capacity, it has worked, in fact it has been too effective, the measures didn't need to be so strict (or it wasn't necessary to restrict the normal business of the NHS so much).

The lockdown will not change the numbers of people who get Covid 19. It will spread them out so the most severe cases aren't all in hospital at once. That is all.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/04/2020 11:09

I suspect this has already been said, but I love the cuntishness of suggesting the snack is 'crisps', often associated with being 'junk food' and 'fattening'.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 11:10

In countries that have done contact tracing, no one has caught it from touching a surface alone.

How have they caught it then? If it isn't airborne and it's not being spread via contaminated surfaces then how is it spread?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/04/2020 11:11

And why the "wash your hands" message? No need to keep washing our hands and not touching our faces if it can't be caught that way is there?

Makeitgoaway · 21/04/2020 11:12

If people were catching it from sitting on park benches long vacated by an infected person, contact tracing wouldn't work. How would you be able to trace the "contact"?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 21/04/2020 11:13

Why does someone need a snack of crisps in the park? Could they really not survive until they are home without a snack? I mean packing crisps when you leave the house with the intention of eating them at the park, because some how you are special and can’t go out for exercise without food-madness.

Do we not all want to help protect our nhs? Some people clearly don’t and that’s sad. Nurses and paramedic have already died and people still won’t do the tiny thing of protecting the nhs.

Candodad · 21/04/2020 11:13

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Sorry, I will ask Mumsnet to change it to hummus and naice ham.

OP posts:
feelingverylazytoday · 21/04/2020 11:13

why is that not a potential route of infection?
Luckily, viral matter degrades in sunlight, so it's not really a very big risk. Especially if you don't touch the bench with your hands. You can wash your outdoor clothing when you come indoors, if you want (and wash hands of course), that should be sufficient to break any chain of transmission.

Frangipanini · 21/04/2020 11:14

I'm going to be really carefully not to brush past a branch or scuff my trainers along a nettle when I go for my country walk later, just in case someone has come along before me and blown their nose on a dock leaf instead of the crook of their elbow.
