Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

OP posts:
fedupofbed · 24/04/2020 20:04

Exertion not excursion!

tootsey · 24/04/2020 20:06

@longshot, I know, I couldn't handle 70 days!

I really wish the media would acknowledge the cases in the middle. We are constantly told here on local radio and TV ads that it's mild and you are back to normal in 7 days, so sick of hearing this.

These threads have kept me sane on my worst days.

Moominmamma33 · 24/04/2020 20:07

Hi, just checking in, sorry to hear lots of people still struggling. I was just thinking we all need to keep in touch with our GPs more so they start passing on the message about the reality of recovery times. @eyebrowsofinstagram you asked about testing for blood clots... GP can do a D-dimer test which tests for an indication of blood clots, if it's positive there would be diagnostic tests in hospital. Out of interest the GP gave me that test and it was negative. Wishing everyone restful nights.

I have found this article helpful throughout, especially when liaising with my workplace regarding my sickness Hmm

It explains the difference between -

Asymptomatic
Mild
Moderate
Severe
Critical

but I believe I have been somewhere between moderate & severe, as does my G.P.

GidgetGirl · 24/04/2020 20:27

Hi all. I didn't expect to be posting again because I've had about a week and a bit of feeling 95% normal. No real symptoms at all.. I started with a pretty mild case about 35 wish days ago (from first symptoms). I hadn't at any point had bad breathing difficulties, and my experience over the first 2.5 weeks was largely confined to chest tightness, on/off mild fevers and chills, mild to moderate cough, headaches, dizziness, heartburn, lethargy, and days of nausea and diarrhoea.

Thought it was all over, then started feeling rough again three days ago. I thought I'd somehow caught a phantom cold despite not really going anywhere and certainly not coming into contact with anyone, but that familiar mild chest tightness/burning is making me think otherwise.

Whhhhhy, after so long feeling better? And after having such a relatively mild case? Although I felt really rough, I wasn't bed-bound like many of you have been. Now I've got the tightness, dizziness, heartburn, headaches, mild cough, chills/low grade fever all over again. DP thinks I'm mental and I must be imagining it coming back after this long..

Dorual · 24/04/2020 20:45

@Gigetgirl @baroqueandblue @DandyPeguin

So scary you're relapsing after all this time. I'm so sorry for you.

@dandypenguin sounds like the A&E doctor is worried about deterioration even at this late stage? Do you think he was more worried about secondary bacterial infection rather than a relapse of original covid?

I'm having a glass of wine. YOLO. May regret this tomorrow.

Elllicam · 24/04/2020 20:48

I’ve started esomeprazole today. I feel like if I can get on top of the gastric stuff it’ll help the breathing.

eyebrowsofinstagram · 24/04/2020 21:06

Thanks @Moominmamma33 that's really helpful to know if I need to call back thanks

Needsomegoodnews · 24/04/2020 22:30

Aargh fuzzy head again! Haven’t had this for about 10 days - sort of somewhere between lightheaded and spaced out. It worries me. Anyone else? Breathing’s been better today and temp not too bad so no reason why my head should suddenly feel odd (day 39).

@Dorual Let me know how you get on with a glass of wine! I haven’t had any for 5 and a half weeks since this all started, as I wake up feeling like I’ve got a hangover anyway and sometimes get woozy maybe not the best idea but part of me wonders if it might help with the stress and anxiety!

DandyPeguin · 24/04/2020 22:34

@dandypenguin sounds like the A&E doctor is worried about deterioration even at this late stage? Do you think he was more worried about secondary bacterial infection rather than a relapse of original covid?

No @Dorual I don’t think he was. I wasn’t given any antiobiotics and I’ve just finished a course for a gum infection.

The fact that he asked me to self-isolate from my family and everyone again for 7 days suggests he think it’s all Covid and is a relapse.

DandyPeguin · 24/04/2020 22:35

I’m day 38 btw

Dorual · 24/04/2020 22:50

@DandyPeguin

Well that's scary. I've not seen any reports of anyone deteriorating to critical from original covid after that length of time. Fingers crossed x

NotAnotherUserNumber · 24/04/2020 23:11

It has been just under 7 weeks for me since symptoms started and I think I am finally getting better. Still very very tired and able to do very little, but definitely feel like I am finally getting over it.

I hope this helps some people behind me in this process feel a bit more positive! There is light at the end of the tunnel!

For me, week 2 was the worst in terms of lungs, chest pain, breathing etc. But weeks 4 and 5 were the worst in terms of neurological type symptoms and total exhaustion.

Like @Lightsabre mentioned, it was at 6 weeks plus when it started to get better.

DandyPeguin · 24/04/2020 23:15

I don’t think he necessarily meant deteriorate to critical @Dorual, just that I might need a bit of help. Also he has to hedge his bets I guess! I’m very surprised that I’ve deteriorated as I have after 5 weeks, it’s mostly a relapse but quite a bad one because I’m at my worst. I don’t think I’ll deteriorate to a critical degree though, I feel confident about that. Thanks for support x

Keepdistance · 24/04/2020 23:24

Have youball been trying to get a bit of sunshine for vit D?
Ive increased my vitamibs to 25micrograms.

Im wondering if in a family relapsing is catching it back off another member.

DandyPeguin · 24/04/2020 23:39

Thanks for the article @Cityonlockdown

I laughed at moderate lasting 7-14 days and the fatigue for moderate CV lasting “a few days”.

Good to hear @NotAnotherUserNumber as I head towards my 6th week. But this relapse is brutal, so I think it’s going to be months until I’m back to my previous level of health.

Rhona123 · 24/04/2020 23:51

Well after posting earlier Today about being symptom free for a couple of days (good day again today ) - up all day with only a couple hours rest on couch mid afternoon) but feeling better and much stronger after 34/35 days of this hellish virus I now awake from sleep tonight with the return of palpitations,Weird sensations, sweating, head fog, crawling feeling in legs and general anxiety. When will this ever end? Stomach churning again like a washing machine and awaiting the dreaded return of the Diarrhea. So exhausted with it all.

Frankiefree · 25/04/2020 06:09

I thought I was getting better but now been awake for a couple of hours. I'm hit and I feel like my breathing is very shallow. Is it worth me getting one of the oxygen readers from Amazon? I'm at Day 43.

WorriesomeDad · 25/04/2020 08:05

Morning folks. (Day 37 from proper symptoms) Out of the last four days I’ve had two bad nights but two good ones and all the days have been ok really. There’s been a few times I’ve felt a bit weird but providing I don’t exert myself I feel 80-90% normal. Definitely living with The Fear though! Chest tight this morning and I’m sure another relapse will be coming at some point.

I’m trying not to think about aerobic exercise yet. I miss it so so much. I’ve tried short stints but my heart rate rockets and o2 drops. Like some of the posters with different activities above, I live for climbing mountains and riding bikes and dream of a time when I can do these things again.

Because I’ve started to feel better I haven’t been posting on here as much. If there’s any other long termers out there who are now getting back to 100% who are reading this, I think it would be great for everyone if they could drop in and say hi with an update. It really is such a long haul.

@Lightsabre The tests can be ordered again now.

Moodgie · 25/04/2020 08:14

@WorriesomeDad Great news. So glad you are feeling better. I thought I was getting better, then yesterday a sore throat returned followed by breathing being off in the evening. Had more energy the last two days and now feel not well and totally fatigued again. I think you had a similar relapse didn’t you?

simplekindoflife · 25/04/2020 08:16

Glad to here some of you are feeling better.

I'm roughly somewhere around day 30, maybe more. My chest still hurts so much. Stabbing, burning pain which moves around my whole chest area. My heart feels erratic and keeps beating so fast. My chest is juddering and I have a pins and needles feeling in my arms. I had a chest X-ray which came back clear - how can that be when I'm in so much pain? I don't understand it. Confused

I went downhill again last night so DH wants to me to go A&E today to get checked out but I really don't want to go to hospital and I don't want them to think I'm wasting their time or putting anyone at risk. But he says we don't even know it's Covid, despite all the symptoms... I suppose he had a point, we don't actually know for sure. What if it is something else?! He made the point that in any other circumstances I'll be straight down to A&E without hesitation!

I really can't think straight atm. I really don't know what to do. Feeling quite desperate today. 111 just keep repeating the same script about fever and a cough - which I don't have! Hmm

Needsomegoodnews · 25/04/2020 08:31

@WorriesomeDad glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better but I totally get the frustration of not being able to do normal activity. I’m in a similar situation in that I reckon I’m at least 80% back to normal and able to function during the day, work from home, short walks, play with kids etc. The thing that’s bothering me now is that there isn’t one consistent thing that’s still niggling - it still changes almost every day. My breathing was worse for a couple of days, last night it was fuzzy head and this morning it’s really sore throat like @Moodgie said. It makes it feel like the virus is still moving around rather than post viral :-( This has huge implications for release of lockdown as well as our health so they really need to be testing us...

simplekindoflife · 25/04/2020 08:34

@Needsomegoodnews totally agree.

Moodgie · 25/04/2020 08:39

Oh and the runny tummy this morning is worse than it has ever been. I am not sure how long ago it has started anymore, but I think I have had a runny tummy for about a week or so in the mornings.
