Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

OP posts:
DandyPeguin · 24/04/2020 00:24

Hi I’ve been in and out of these threads since the very first lungs one.

Day 38 here. I thought I was getting better, I felt better. But I’ve had a complete relapse today. Called 111 and they sent me to A&E - offered an ambulance but I said I could make my own way there.

I’m now here in a room in A&E after having had tests. Dr said they weren’t supposed to be swabbing anyone but she said it would be good to swab me so is going to speak to consultant and see.

@TheDrsWife46 funnily enough I’ve just been prescribed that medication for chronic nerve pain (not Covid related). Haven’t got it yet but I’m pleased to hear it’s made you sleep as I have a terrible time getting to sleep.

AnythingPecan · 24/04/2020 04:07

@DandyPeguin how are you feeling now? I'm sorry that you've had to go through this.

Idancedonday38 · 24/04/2020 07:54

Did anyone apply for a test, but havn't had a text back yet from.Gov.Uk?

godhelpusall · 24/04/2020 08:19

Does anyone know anything about LPR? www.aboutgerd.org/laryngeal-pharyngeal-reflux.html

I think I may have this- silent reflux. Apparently it can be the result of upper respiratory virus. I am constantly trying to clear my throat and feel like something is stuck in there. I've also had acid reflux so might make sense. I need to get omepeazole somehow.

Egghead68 · 24/04/2020 08:30

Day 34/35. Feeling generally ok apart from less energy and some chest tightness. Done 8mins on exercise bike and walked a mile. Aim to do the same again later.

@godhelpusall you can get over-the-counter nexium (esomeprazole) but ranitidine, rennies and gaviscon may all do the trick too (with arguable less nasty side-effects than PPIs like omeprazole). Sorry if I am telling you what you already know. Acid reflux can irritate your larynx and so cam upper respiratory tract infections. (Disclaimer - no medical knowledge just long-time sufferer).

Kitcat122 · 24/04/2020 08:39

@Howlongwillthislast I am the same forgotten what day I am but nearly 6 weeks. Feel absolutely fine now, back to work But STILL have lung/chest pain and slight sob. There's no way I could exercise.

I am a key worker but will not be applying for a test as if I have had it I feel it will be long enough gone and I am left with post viral now.

Egghead68 · 24/04/2020 08:47

Can’t believe I wrote less rather than fewer on Mumsnet Blush

AnythingPecan · 24/04/2020 08:49

A bit confused at the wording of who is eligible to take the test.

You can only apply for this test if you’re a key worker who is self-isolating (not able to leave home) because:
• you have coronavirus symptoms
• you live with someone who has coronavirus symptoms

So is this test for people who are within their 7 or 14 day isolation who can't leave the house. It doesn't appear to be for people like us who are weeks on?

Porcupineinwaiting · 24/04/2020 09:31

I understood that it is for any key worker, to help them decide whether they and their households should be self isolating or not. I think the only issue w doing it weeks later is that you may get a false negative (in the sense that you may still have had cv but it may not still be active in your respiratory tract).

Lightsabre · 24/04/2020 09:40

@Idancedonday38, I applied at 8.30am and am awaiting the text. I'm on Day 28 now though but still breathless. Not hopeful it will be positive. I'm hoping the antibody test won't be far behind.

MillStone · 24/04/2020 09:44

@Kitcat122

I just saw your comment and read that you're back at work. That's great.

You said there's no way you could exercise and you still get chest pains and SOB.

May i ask, were your pains and SOB worse throughout the illness and how bad are the pains and SOB compared to then?

If you were to try an exercise do you think it would come back as severely as at your worst?

Thanks!

Crayfishforyou · 24/04/2020 09:53

Has anyone found the day before or on the first day of their periods their symptoms have got so much worse?

Dorual · 24/04/2020 09:59

@crayfish4u yes that happened to me. I felt terrible on my period. Posted about it last week.

Rhona123 · 24/04/2020 10:15

Well I’m on day 35 and I’ve had my second night of almost a full nights sleep. The tremors and heart palpitations are beginning to fade. Diarrhea has been gone for 3days. Stomach still weird and dizzy floaty feeling almost like I’m drunk! But I recognise I have come a long way from the beginning of the virus. Staying up most of the day with a couple of naps on the couch. Still horrible metallic taste . Tiredness but not utter exhaustion now. Absolutely dreading another relapse but fingers crossed I’m heading the right way. Thinking of everyone right now dealing with this - it’s quite the journey and a real head messer!

Kitcat122 · 24/04/2020 10:18

Hi @Millstone
My pain and sob is much better now than it was when I was ill. Just left with slight twinges but notice they get a little worst when I over do it. The sob is much better but I still notice it if I run upstairs for example. I really want to start exercises but feel it's too soon. I feel my chest would get worse. I'm going to give it another week and see how it goes. Its soooo boring now 😀

MillStone · 24/04/2020 10:38

@Kitcat122

Thank you for your reply. It makes me so hopeful that this will end.

How long were you ill for before returning to work?

Needsomegoodnews · 24/04/2020 10:44

@Crayfishforyou yes - major hot flushes (and I don’t usually get hot flushes at this time of the month) and more wiped out than I’ve been for days. I think probably just relatively minor symptoms you’re used to dealing with massively exacerbated by the ongoing symptoms.

@DandyPeguin hope you’re ok? Scary but at least you’re in the right place.

Interested to know the outcome of anyone that can get tested! Hoping there’ll be an antibody test soon...

Kitcat122 · 24/04/2020 10:50

@Millstone, I was off for 4 weeks. Xx

Moodgie · 24/04/2020 10:56

End of the 7th week since the first sore throat now. Runny tummy and feeling nauseous in the mornings. Main issue now is this phlegmy feeling which I can’t clear and which I have had for a week - it fluctuates as well. I feel like I have generally turned a corner, although as we know it can change, just want to feel my chest is clear. Anyone similar?

Crayfishforyou · 24/04/2020 11:00

I've had two very breathless dizzy days as I forgot to take my pill towards the end of the pack.
I feel as though I've pulled all my leg muscles , I think I did starve myself of oxygen a bit.
I'm going to just start the next packet I think. In three weeks I shall be stronger! I can deal with a bit of spotting and sore boobs for a few weeks, but But I can't deal with yesterday or the day before again.

sleepwhenidie · 24/04/2020 11:11

crayfish my period seems to have gone AWOL from the point I had CV. I’m 47 and figured it must be sudden perimenopause (horrendous night sweats during the first week that have gradually reduced since and have now stopped) but weirdly a friend has had the same thing along with cv. It has now been 3 months since last my last period (cv symptoms from around 1st week of March). Definitely not pg. Could be coincidence but thought it worth seeing if anyone else has had the same experience?

eyebrowsofinstagram · 24/04/2020 11:12

@MillStone what day are you on?

I was interested you said about heart palpitations, I know a few others have mentioned heart too.

I said it to the GP yesterday but with the assumption that I must be confused because my lungs are near my heart.

Just read this interesting article this morning which goes through most of the symptoms we've described on these threads at some point

www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/04/how-does-coronavirus-kill-clinicians-trace-ferocious-rampage-through-body-brain-toes#

Warning- reading could make you freak out more. But the interesting takeaway for me was the bit about Coronavirus may make tiny blood clots, which is why heart disease patients (and type 2 diabetes) fare the worst.

For me it explains low oxygen levels when you're not gasping for breath.

Frightened myself last night as felt very light headed and woozy but could breathe fine. Took oxygen reading and was 86 - and pulse bpm was 150 and the thing was flashing.

Didn't know what to do so did yoga child pose, measured oxygen again and was low 90s, ending in 96. Went to bed and this morning was back to 98.

Not sure whether to call GP or not? Can they test for blood clots?

I do feel like the virus is on my heart at the moment.

eyebrowsofinstagram · 24/04/2020 11:13

Forgot to say I'm day 33 today

Crayfishforyou · 24/04/2020 11:21

@eyebrowsofinstagram
If that happens again go straight to A&E. Anything under 95 is dangerous.
My dsis had a resting bpm of 120 and sats of 96. She spent 5 hours in hospital on O2. It really really helped her and they told her to come back if it happened again

Lightsabre · 24/04/2020 11:23

@eyebrowsofinstagram, those very short term, sudden symptoms are so scary. I don't suppose it would do any harm to discuss with your GP but just keep an eye on your vital stats.

@MillStone - I think we're both at the end of the fourth week now? I don't feel so weak and floppy now generally- I'm not bed bound but I'm still resting in bed a lot. I'm still experiencing the breathlessness, upper back pain and various throat/ear twinges. My lymph nodes have been aching throughout off and on. I havnt received the text with details about testing yet - I registered this morning. I'm terrified that the virus has left me with some sort of lung condition or that there's a DVT but because i can't be referred anywhere, I just have to struggle on.

Sorry to everyone else going through this - please post any 'much better' stories to keep us going!
