I think the suffering twice thing goes along with an old, old saying about brave men dying only once, cowards dying a thousand times. That isn't one I find helpful, but I can sort of see the not worrying thing. My mother refused to worry about nuclear war during the fifties, because she said "There's nothing I can do about it, darling, so i might just as well not bother; such a waste of my time..."

Asgoodasarest · 28/04/2020 18:32

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime I’m by no means great at not worrying. I just thought what a good point of view to have. I will never naturally be that person! I don’t think anyone is a coward for worrying either, I for one am just made that way. Any tricks for not worrying and I’m all over it.

I got upset the other day and my husband said sometimes you just have to have a little faith. So that’s another way to look at it too.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/04/28/coronavirus-positive-good-news-round-up-bus-stop-now-childrens/

The footage of the children playing outside in Spain for the first time in 44 days made me cry 😢

Arcadia · 28/04/2020 18:42

In a good way I mean. There is hope.

Arcadia · 28/04/2020 18:54

@Noooblerooble we must be psychically linked! I've been at my daughters watercolour pencils today to try and shake myself out of an anxious mood. I attempted some roses - a very quick go and haven't done anything for ages!

Good to read about Aus and NZ doing well too:

www.ft.com/content/c4200db9-3eb5-484d-818a-00355a99c649

Their app sounds promising for tracing and nipping new outbreaks in the bud - hopefully if other countries get these things working and they prove effective we can capitalise on that too.

Callybrid · 28/04/2020 19:09

That’s great Arcadia! I think creative/crafty stuff is like exercise for me - I know it will make me feel better but I feel such resistance to getting on and just starting it...

I did do a tiny run today though (Tiny - me and DS ran up a hill for about two minutes!) and was a good way to start the day. Been a bit downhill from there as I slept badly and I’ve been in a bit of a haze butlike a few of you were saying earlier if you get a couple of key things done in the morning a write-off later on doesn’t feel nearly so bad!

chrissieone · 28/04/2020 19:57

I did find a nice quote today:

Some days are better
Some days are worse

Look for the blessing
Instead of the curse

Be positive,Stay Strong
And get enough rest

You can't do it all
But you can do your best.

Smile

@Arcadia here’s the tea loaf recipe. Delicious with butter!!
180 or 160 fan oven or gas 4. Mix all together having soaked the fruit in 300 ml of strong tea for 6 hrs or overnight. Pop in loaf tin in the oven for 1hr 15 or 30 until firm to touch ( my oven does it in 1 hour 15 mins on fan 160) Cool for 15 mins then take out tin. Yum.

Evening all,

Thank you all for the support yesterday, as predicted today has been better. Nothing different really, but I have felt more settled. I was interested to see the comments about not worrying about things you can't control, that was a big part of the CBT I did a couple of years ago and I am much better at it now. I was taught to divide worries into three categories

  1. things you could deal with fairly immediately (do them now or allocate a time in the very near future to do them, eg changing utility supplier)
  2. things you can deal with but need more planning (eg booking a holiday, break it down into small steps and treat as 1).
  3. Things that are totally or almost totally out of your control eg Covid, climate change. For the latter, do the things you can, eg stay in, use less plastic whatever, but then put the worry away and accept that you can do no more than that. Visualise the worry going into a box and the lid going on, or being a cloud that drifts away leaving blue skies. You know that there are blue skies beyond every cloud, you just need to wait.
Asgoodasarest · 28/04/2020 21:25

Thank you @ExpletiveDelighted that’s really helpful.

purpleme12 · 28/04/2020 21:58

@asgoodasarest @DianneWhatcock

Thank you I'm feeling a bit better my friend brought me round some colouring and treats as a surprise
Made me feel I wasn't so alone

DianneWhatcock · 28/04/2020 22:10

Awwww I'm so glad to hear that @purpleme12 thank you for updating.

Blerg · 28/04/2020 22:20

Hi all, thanks to everyone contributing here. I read way to much news and stats related stuff today. It’s a real struggle to be sensible on this for me, and has been for a long time pre C19.

I’m feeling positive about restrictions being lifted elsewhere, and even here - never thought I’d feel so happy that a brick manufacturer is starting up again but it’s all a step in the right direction!

Juggling work, schoolwork etc is an issue but I’m accepting my limitations and doing my best as in @chrissieone ‘s quote.

Asgoodasarest · 28/04/2020 22:24

I’m so glad today was better @purpleme12 what a lovely friend! If you feel low again remember you have people thinking of you and caring even if you can’t be physically with them. We will always listen on here, just keep checking in x

Asgoodasarest · 28/04/2020 22:25

@Blerg tomorrow is another day. Can you try and make a pact with yourself that you’ll check in with the news once maybe? If there’s anything important you’ll get to know about it. Otherwise it’s just an awful lot of info to digest for one person.
Doing our best is all we can do x

Bunnyflop · 28/04/2020 22:30

Glad you’re ok @purpleme12 , what a lovely friend!

Remember everyone, whenever you’re sad just vent on here and we will all try and help. X

Morning everyone! Thanks for the recipe @Benji, I'll give that a try.
I'm going to a small local family run hardware shop along the road today to pick up some plants. I gave them a call yesterday and they are open limited hours.
I might also try an outing to M & S food! V exciting!
So glad to have this thread to help me through each day Smile

Bunnyflop · 29/04/2020 11:51

Morning all! Enjoy your shopping @arcadia! Ps I have good news for you from Homebase!!

Yaaay! Thanks @Bunnyflop that means at the weekend DP can go and get the building sand that he needs for a project in the garden!
Spent my whole yoga class this morning visualising what food I'm going to buy in M&S mmmmmm Grin

Callybrid · 29/04/2020 11:58

Ooh look at you Arcadia gallivanting about! Grin I haven’t been out of the house in a day or two - should probably try to get out today before the rain sets in for a few days.

Making flapjacks this morning - smelling of syrupy deliciousness right now...

Good news today:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52466814 - more testing available and more people able to get tested

And whatever we might think of the parents always nice to hear a baby arriving safely: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52469079 (Carrie Symonds gives birth to baby boy)

Callybrid · 29/04/2020 11:59

Ooh, bunnyflop that is good! I can go and stock up on compost

riotlady · 29/04/2020 12:23

Finding things a bit harder today, am so anxious and can’t settle myself. Might try some yoga when DD goes down for her nap

Bunnyflop · 29/04/2020 12:37

I have literally never been so excited to go to Homebase! I’m going to buy a tonne of compost and lavender and god knows what else!

@riotlady hope you feel better later. The Stop, Breathe, Think app is awesome for calming me down, might be worth a try.
