Anyone else confused about what the hell is going on and how we are going to get out of this mess...

I can stay home all day every day and wash my hands. I have stayed home for weeks. However this week, the roads outside seem busier, lots of people are out and now some shops which were previously shut are now re-opening with social distancing or deliveries which is only going to encourage others to go out. My workplace has shut down and I might be furloughed although nothings clear as to what pay I may have or guranteed as the government have yet again confused everyone with regards to the retention scheme, so I may have to now consider the option of getting a second job even though I'm supposed to be staying home and socially distancing 🤔. We've been told face masks are pointless yet some countries are making them mandatory and now the government are looking into this. People are getting restless because alot of advice contradicts itself and is confusing. I can't visit my parents but people are dropping off supplies and chatting to them at a distance. So can I not sit outside 2m and chat to them?? My fil who is extremely vulnerable and told to stay at home for 12 weeks has just been called to the hospital for blood tests WTF. I went to Tesco first time ever one in at a time, I had to collect a basket which I then had to give to a gloved store member (thought gloves were useless) who then wiped the handle whilst encouraging me to gel my hands 🙄. And don't even get me started on the clapping on London Bridge. I'm just losing the will and plot with it all to be honest. Sorry 😬

There’s a Coronavirus topic you might be better off posting on!

I’m assuming you’ll find people specifically interested in discussing it.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/04/2020 18:36

Oh OK thank you I will see if I can get it moved 😬

Hang in there though, OP! It’s a weird crappy time. Flowers

QueenZoopla · 18/04/2020 18:41

I think you've summed up the contradictory madness perfectly!

FabulouslyElegantTits · 18/04/2020 18:41

I'm with you OP! We could either have had a full/proper lockdown and eliminated the virus more quickly (at the detriment to the economy) or not bother locking down at all (at the detriment to many people's lives)

But we seem to have have some wish washy in-between crap that will leave a rotten recession and more than double the predicted amount of deaths.

mrlissa · 18/04/2020 18:43

think more people are going to social more with the rediculious new rules

Crikey0000 · 18/04/2020 18:48

Tits it not a question of eliminating the virus but slowing the spread.
The truth is everyone is making it up as they go along and there is contradictory evidence all over the place. Just as there is for everything else. Think how many contradictions there are with healthy eating advice when new studies come out. I think its unrealistic to expect the government or anyone else to know exactly what to do with every aspect of this situation . I understand it's frustrating and anxiety provoking but we'll all just have to be as sensible and calm as possible.

LastTrainEast · 18/04/2020 18:55

FabulouslyElegantTits "a full/proper lockdown" would have killed you. How do you think water gets in your taps and electricity in the wires? Where would your food come from if everyone was locked down and if your house was burning would you expect someone to put it out?

We'd have had to stay locked down for at least a month or two as people locked down together would be passing it to each other so pretty much everyone would have died by then.

The fact that you don't understand what we are doing in no way limits its effectiveness.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 18/04/2020 21:00

I'm not slating the government, they're doing what they think is right and I certainly wouldn't be able to do a better job.

And by 'proper' lockdown I mean where people follow a firmer set of rules rather than pissing about trying to find loopholes.

Train .. how marvellously patronising!

MigginsMs · 18/04/2020 21:06

Don’t blame you OP, what a fucking shambles it all is!

StillCounting123 · 18/04/2020 22:49

One thing that confuses me is why we can't sit outside on grass if we are well away from others. I understand playparks being shut, but outdoor space? Nope.

PumpkinP · 18/04/2020 22:58

It’s weird isn’t it, there was a woman posting on my local fb page asking for recommendations of a Chinese restaurant she got a few who were offering to deliver and then she decided to get one that meant she had to drive to pick up, surely that’s unnecessary Confused just want it all to me over, I don’t know how much more I can cope.

PumpkinP · 18/04/2020 23:00

There is also signs up near me saying no playing sports but when I came home from the shops the other day people were kicking a ball about on the common near me and I was nowhere near them, way over 2m away yet the ball still ended up being kicked next to me and one of them ran up right next to me and grabbed it.

Notcontent · 18/04/2020 23:06

I agree that it’s a weirdly confusing and contradictory time. There are some people who are just going about their life as normal, subject to a few inconveniences. While for others it’s a horribly stressful time with some dramatic consequences.

SamSeabornforPresident · 18/04/2020 23:09

I do think the place in general seems busier than three weeks ago. Buses would go past with no one on them, whereas now there seem to be 6/7 people on every bus I see. (Disclaimer: live on a major bus route, not a lot else to do. Grin)

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/04/2020 23:18

I’m with you OP.

Polly02 · 18/04/2020 23:54

It is all completely confusing, I agree.

And I can see so many people giving up this week too. We're in London and every one has been so well behaved until now. But it is, this week, as though government had said lockdown had ended. Massive party in house down the road. Loads more cars and people out on the streets. People chatting within a metre of each other - no one was doing that before ... list goes on.

I think we've got over our fear of the virus. A few friends have said the same. The numbers are becoming meaningless. The government has given us no idea of what the plan is or when this will end, what it will lead to. The government doesn't seem to know what it's doing. We're all shouldering the blame for the virus spreading when hospital staff have no PPE, little testing is happening and police are collecting close up to clap the NHS on Westminster bridge ...

I expected people to riot - but then remembered we live in England. So just giving up and going out makes more sense really.

Polly02 · 18/04/2020 23:57

Added to that we have no real leader or voice of reason to follow. It's just a muddle of Matt and Dom and Gove etc -

We've got no real government and no PM anymore. Perfect ingredients for chaos.

Ilovemyhairbeingstroked · 19/04/2020 00:13

Definitely way too many contradictions and whilst it can’t be avoided - having Boris recovering and not at the helm doesn’t seem to help . Feels almost like when to it manager isn’t in at work .

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/04/2020 00:17

Where is bloody Cummings?

It’s like he’s had such a stranglehold on cabinet that without him and Boris they don’t know how to come together and make it sound like there’s coherence and coordination.

Alok Sharma makes me want to rip my ears off. The press conferences were a good idea but it’s like a weird free for all now with everyone being made to have a turn and the changing faces/voices/messages are making it look scrappy, unprofessional and out of control. I’d stopped watching any news until turning that on at 5 and I haven’t bothered the last couple of days as it’s unhelpful and driving me nuts.

Moomin8 · 19/04/2020 01:08

The fact that you don't understand what we are doing in no way limits its effectiveness.

Well that’s just a load of shit isn’t it. The ‘advice’ is contradictory. For one thing, do the masks help or not? It’s not a difficult question to answer Ffs

caringcarer · 19/04/2020 01:30

We are living in strange times. I have just read a story saying a virus lab in Wuhan leaked the Covid19 virus by mistake. That they have loads of these evil viruses in their lab in fridges with faulty seals. If they have caused this devastation on the world they should compensate every person who has caught it. These viruses always seem to start in China. The WHO knew about this virus for weeks before they warned countries, they should be investigating these claims and instead they tip toe around issuing statements that change every week. No wonder countries get confused.

LilacTree1 · 19/04/2020 02:19

Pumpkin “ then she decided to get one that meant she had to drive to pick up, surely that’s unnecessary”

She’s allowed to drive to get food.

They’re allowed to deliver.

PumpkinP · 19/04/2020 02:34

I know she’s “allowed” but it’s unnecessary imo, driving because you fancy a particular take away, when many delivery and offer contact free delivery. No the wonder this will go on forever, the lock down is way too soft.
