I can stay home all day every day and wash my hands. I have stayed home for weeks. However this week, the roads outside seem busier, lots of people are out and now some shops which were previously shut are now re-opening with social distancing or deliveries which is only going to encourage others to go out. My workplace has shut down and I might be furloughed although nothings clear as to what pay I may have or guranteed as the government have yet again confused everyone with regards to the retention scheme, so I may have to now consider the option of getting a second job even though I'm supposed to be staying home and socially distancing 🤔. We've been told face masks are pointless yet some countries are making them mandatory and now the government are looking into this. People are getting restless because alot of advice contradicts itself and is confusing. I can't visit my parents but people are dropping off supplies and chatting to them at a distance. So can I not sit outside 2m and chat to them?? My fil who is extremely vulnerable and told to stay at home for 12 weeks has just been called to the hospital for blood tests WTF. I went to Tesco first time ever one in at a time, I had to collect a basket which I then had to give to a gloved store member (thought gloves were useless) who then wiped the handle whilst encouraging me to gel my hands 🙄. And don't even get me started on the clapping on London Bridge. I'm just losing the will and plot with it all to be honest. Sorry 😬

Point is she shouldn’t be allowed out because she fancies a particular take away food shopping absolutely that is essential, but just because she fancies food from a certain take away that doesn’t deliver? Ridiculous. Pick one that does.

oxydrive73 · 19/04/2020 02:58

The chinese would have to deliver so somebody would be driving, I think she is the least of our problems to be honest.

LilacTree1 · 19/04/2020 03:24

Pumpkin

What difference does it make to the viral load? Both for herself and for the delivery driver if she’d ordered from one that does deliver.

LilacTree1 · 19/04/2020 03:25

Also, she’s given the business to the one that doesn’t deliver which is good as they are likely to have fewer customers.

It is all so confusing and contradictory that there is now a real danger of people getting fatigued with it and starting to ignore the rules more and more.

I don't understand the thing about masks. Are they effective or not? Which type? Where should you buy them from and how often should you change them? Why are some countries insisting on them being worn in public but here in the UK the government isn't sure either way.

effingterrified · 19/04/2020 04:15

Agree, Tits, that the guidance has been contradictory and slapdash.

Eg you must socially distance, AND Boris with his 'I've been shaking hands with coronavirus patients in hospital.'

(And don't get me on to how cross it makes me that this idotic and dangerous behaviour on his part meant he infected who knows how many members of the cabinet and civil servants and his pregnant fiance, and he then took up a valuable ITU bed for 3 days even though he apparently wasn't given the kind of oxygen that requires it!)

The government doesn't seem to be able to decide if we should be trying to prioritise the economy or human lives and in do doing are protecting neither. The lack of protection for NHS staff and care home staff and residents is just shocking and they will not be judged well by history for this, even if they've banned the press from discussing it now.

effingterrified · 19/04/2020 04:21

Also, people like Pumpkin who try to police people following rules they clearly don't understand do my head in.

Why would it matter if the woman drives to the takeaway or the takeaway drives to her? Same amount of interaction and driving? Confused

It's like the police who have been stopping people walking miles from anyone in the country. Why fucking not? It's one of the worst English traits, this pointless officiousness and the policing of others following petty, pointless rules. It's the Puritan streak, I think, that sees people having any kind of fun or pleasant experience as morally wrong in some way. Hmm

Alok Sharma makes me want to rip my ears off.

You aren't wrong!! He talks like a patronising headmaster, tosser!

To be honest it's all a complete shit show, they are wheeling out one government teaboy after another to do these daily briefings, all of which are a repeat of the day before, just with different numbers.

Yes, people are deciding to start to ignore this so called lockdown. Since the beginning of the week I have never seen the roads so busy since this all started. People out all the time, shopping all the time, they are just starting to get on. To be honest, what do the government expect? If they won't tell us what the plan is "for our own good", people are going to stick two fingers up at them and refuse to cooperate.

Zoolander2 · 19/04/2020 06:15

Sorry but I don't find the guidance on social distancing confusing at all. Its very simple! Just stay at home as much as possible, don't make unnecessary trips in your car, go out for a short walk only in your local area, hands in pockets and don't sit or touch anything, benches etc. Wash hands all the time and certainly after touching delivered goods or shopping out if you must. What is confusing here?
Imo masks don't work as the virus can pass through the eyes liquid. Unless you are wearing full PPE the best protection is wash your hands if you are out and touching things is unavoidable like in the supermarket. What piss me off is the fact that others don't respect your space. Walking all over you in the supermarket. They all line up nicely outside but once in they walk straight to your face to grab what they need.
You can't completely shield yourself from the virus. If you go to the supermarket it will be there somewhere for sure. No way you can control transmission with gloves or spray on trollies as it could be on any of the packaging that you then take home when you unpack your shopping. If you unpack still with your gloves the virus will pass from your gloves to other surfaces, so even gloves are useless.
With regards to Gov handling the situation, my only criticism is that the borders should have been shut down immediately when it become clear that the virus pass from person to person. It was only going to be amatter of days before someone will land in the UK carrying the virus, yet they took so much time to stop air teaffic. And second point is that social distancing should have started sooner.

Just stay at home as much as possible. That is a simple instruction. That will make a massive difference to how the virus spread and can slow it down.

Thanks everyone glad it's not only just me. I've said front he beginning the should have contained it at the airports. We could have contained it and controlled it better giving us the gift of time. We are a island fgs. People's coming back should have been made to self isolate. Our local b and q opened up yesterday and it was was heaving. Everyone seems to be going to these shops yet aren't allowed to sit in an open space 2 metre apart from each other. Theres just no light at the end of the tunnel the absence of Boris has definitely had an impact. He may speak absolute bs but he makes you listen and believe it at times and offers a calmer reassurance that's others aren't.

I agree with everything else you said, apart from the above. I cannot find any way at all to trust a word that man says and I'm not just saying since he has been the PM.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 19/04/2020 14:05

Fair enough 😂 I do find not having present leader has made the situation worse though and people were more inclined to to look and listen to him.
