Have any of you with covid (either suspected or confirmed) developed a horrid metallic/chemical like taste in your mouth?

I'm thinking I may have had it and this was a prominent feature, unfortunately I couldn't get a test so cannot say for sure.

I've never experienced it before in my life.

I'm just wondering if anybody else, be it suspected or confirmed, has had this?

My friend had it. Loss of smell and taste is also common.

I’ve not had it, but was listening (on radio) to someone who has had it and she said she first had a metallic taste and then total loss of taste and smell.

Yes. Except I had it as a symptom of an illness which every MNer tells me can’t be Corona because I had it “too early”.

We have no real idea what are symptoms of Corona and what aren’t because we aren’t carrying out enough tests and of the tests we have carried out on people unwell enough to be hospitalised, two thirds have been negative - i.e. they had several symptoms thought typical of Corona but turned out to be ill with something else.

It is frustrating, not being able to get tested.

I stayed indoors for 9 days just incase.

I wish I knew either way, if I was able to ascertain that it was covid then I would like to be doing more to help the vulnerable. Shopping etc.

Yes a GP who had a confirmed case early on reported metallic taste after fever and cough subsided along with sinusitis.
I suspect the cough and fever I had in early Feb was possibly Covid-19 I work in ultra high risk health care and saw a few patients who had been skiing in Italy in early Feb so possible contact. It wasn’t until I read thisGPs account in early March that I realised I’d had a lot of the classic symptoms. The low grade fever kept recurring for nearly a month. DH caught it off me within a few days, he had more flu like version and slept for the best part of 2 weeks.
Both of us experienced loss of appetite probably linked to loss of taste and smell. The metallic taste was only temporary and I thought it was down to the toothpaste I was using. I didn’t really link it to the virus I’d had at the time.

Yes, it was one of my earliest symptoms, even before the cough.

I didn't have the textbook symptoms of a continuous cough or fever.

I had a sudden onset of gastrointestinal cramping and diarreah, when this began my heart rate shot up. I had ever so slight SOB, aching limbs, chills, pain on both sides of my upper back (lungs maybe?) mild sore throat, the foul metallic taste for five days and loss of appetite. I later had stabbing eye pain and headaches that were bordering on migraines.

I was unsure because of the lack of severe cough and temperature, though it's worth noting that I virtually never get a temp even when quite unwell, so I don't want to rule it out.

My GP said they were getting a lot of patients who's primary symptoms were gastro related. So no temp or cough but they tested positive for coronavirus.

I have not been tested but was ill with fatigue, shortness of breath, that metallic taste and really bad diarrhoea for a couple of weeks in mid March.

And just to further complicate things, we already know that many people who test positive are entirely asymptomatic: so the fatigue, diarrhoea, nausea etc that have been recorded in many people who test positive may actually be nothing to do with Coronavirus: it’s possible they had both some other virus or bug and asymptomatic Coronavirus concurrently.

I've been looking around online and regularly see it as a reported symptom, if only there were an efficient antibody test that we could take.

It doesn't sound as though we will get one anytime soon, the general public that is.

I know of a "businessman" who was selling so called covid/antibody tests at £30 a pop. He owns some type of online dispensary for pharmaceuticals and claims he ordered a bulk lot before things got bad - so was able to secure some.

I fail to see how he can have these when the NHS can't get hold of any (that work)

I get that metallic taste when i get an inflamed liver ' which i can get with any infection /virus.

It was quite remarkable, like nothing I've ever had before.

I'm probably looking too far into it, but it does make me wonder.

Yes me. I've had it for about a month. It was absolutely dreadful for a week or so and much better now but still lingering. Both taste and smell.

It was so bad I spoke to my GP who said probably acid reflux. That was before smell and taste were mentioned in connection to CV.

Before the taste/ smell I had a week of severe breathlessness which I just assumed was asthma. My asthma is triggered by a cold and anxiety, both of which I had.

I'd love to know if I've had it but no one else in my house caught it which makes me think probably not. I've been searching the internet but there's more about loss of taste and smell than a metallic one.

Yes, it’s horrible and I’ve had it a good few weeks. Suspected Covid, GP said most likely has been.

Admittedly, a big part of me is clinging onto the fact that is a symptom, so I can tell myself I may have had it. This doesn't mean I'm not taking precautions as I'm very stringent and careful, but it's a bit of hope that stops me worrying excessively about getting it (which I was doing alot, before I did get unwell with whatever it was)

I had it. Then nose felt like I'd snorted bleach. Then I lost my sense of smell and taste.

The sensation of having snorted bleach sounds awful

I've had a metallic taste in my mouth for weeks now. I thought loss of smell/taste was a symptom of covid but didn't realise the metallic taste was too.
We were isolating anyway as child had a fever... but wouldn't it go away again once I've recovered? It's been a month now.

A family member had this. It was her first symptom. She said tea tasted awful and the horrible taste wouldn't go away.
She then got worse symptoms - flu like and a bad cough. She's fine now though!
