How many are still going out to work?

DD works in a shop

I have two jobs, school and pharmacy/store, so I'm working 50% at the moment

DH totally working from home.

So as a family, 50% of our work is still away from home. Trying to give DD a lift to avoid buses.

Me. Nurse, I'm a manager of a residential mental health unit. I'm a single parent and have two primary aged children. They are going into school 3 days a week as school is only open part time at present. Thankfully I can work my other two days a week from home.

Racheyg · 12/04/2020 20:50

Me only two days a week though, the other 1 I'm working from home.

I'm a PA

allaboardthesinkingship · 12/04/2020 20:51

Husbands a dentist so he's at home. In a dental nurse at a hospital so I'm in

Myownwendyhouse · 12/04/2020 20:51

Both of us. I’m a house keeper and my husband works for a storage chain they are storing more food and stuff for the nhs at the moment

CumbiaVillera · 12/04/2020 20:52

Support Worker and I also work in a Care Home to top up my wages. Luckily my parents have had the kids (sp).

Groovee · 12/04/2020 20:55

Dh is a gas engineer for social housing and has been given an essential worker letter.

I'm an EYP but covering in a hub for providing childcare for keyworkers.

Both my kids are off as their work has shut down.

BipolarSunset · 12/04/2020 20:59

I am. Full time in a GP surgery. DH has been furloughed - works for a kitchen company.

IamMoana · 12/04/2020 21:01

Both of us. Serving armed forces & financial services.

Nacreous · 12/04/2020 21:11

I'm at work, but only because I have been seconded to the hospital for the duration.

All my colleagues (finance) who haven't been seconded are at home, as are most of my friends (accountants, software engineers, civil servants, scientific consulting, solicitors, manufacturing project management, admin and learning support at university).

My friends who work at the hospital (unsurprisingly) aren't working from home. Most of my friends with manual jobs have been furloughed.

I started this thread, so interesting to see why others are still working. I'm not really comfortable with us working but has to be done. Try and keep yourselves safe everyone.

I am working (GP).. Interested as to why some GP receptionists and practise managers on this thread are going in.. We have sent all ours home, we run necessary nurse clinic for things like pre cancer treatment bloods and dressings, all GP work is now by phone or video link and thees is a central clinic where people who need to be seen are sent.
We are doing most of our own patients calls from home.

Jozen · 12/04/2020 21:33

I’m very happy and feel very safe to be homeworking. But there are a lot of non-essential workers on this thread that are being forced to carry on working. Due to the UK govt policy of keeping as much open as possible. This is why we are now forecast to have the highest death rate in Europe

I haven't seen one non essential let alone "a lot".
Which ones?

Jozen · 12/04/2020 21:42

Theredjellybean I work as a mental health nurse in a clinic setting. Our admin are still there organising teleheath appointments and the general running of the clinic that would take floor staff away from their jobs.
They have been moved away from direct patient facing desks though.
We'd be lost without them being physically there.

elaine84 · 12/04/2020 21:43

Me. Work in a school which is open for children of keyworkers and vulnerable children, and dh works in a nursing home. So both of us, same as before. Actually more, because I'd normally be off with school holidays now.

MeadowHay · 12/04/2020 22:00

DH is front line NHS clinician. I'm not a keyworker and working from home but have to go into the office on a rota which is around one morning a fortnight. DH car shares to work with a relative but I have to get the bus to and from work.

Kez200 · 12/04/2020 22:07

Our office is closed to public with one worker there daily for emergencies. We collect work on our day in and work from home the rest of the time.

We are also busier than normal but quite a lot can be done from home. We have minimised it as much as possible.

Love2cycle · 12/04/2020 22:12

Me. Broadband service engineer.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/04/2020 22:27

TheredjellybeanIt even though I’m in management I still work directly with our residents (forensic mental health) everyday I’m not just in an office

We always very much work as a team I am covering for support staff who are off we trying to make things run as smoothly as possible. Some tasks will just have to be put aside for now

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/04/2020 22:30

Me, NHS.

DH is WFH so 50% here

gingerninja99 · 12/04/2020 22:38

Civil servant - still working. Husband is in manufacturing of hygiene goods (think hand washing) so he's still working full time as well. Both our kids going to separate schools throughout the holidays!

yearinyearout · 12/04/2020 22:42

@Jozen my DS is non essential. But the govt guidelines are "work from home unless your work can't be done from home" so his organisation are carrying on. Anyone there who's office based is wfh but all the technical staff are at work.

Aurignacian · 12/04/2020 22:48

I’m social work management, redeployed to another area and working at home and in the office. Usually part time but currently doing many extra hours

Rachie1973 · 12/04/2020 22:49

Support worker trying to ration out the PPE

Yogawoogie · 12/04/2020 22:52
