Second home owner

Gorgeous weather here in Devon and yesterday morning the second home owners across the road turned up.
I've reported them to the police via email 101 but I'm still so angry that they have put our small hamlet of mainly over 60's at risk just because they fancied a change of scenery- they should be ashamed of themselves!
Please talk me down from going over there this morning😡😡

OP, I’m nowhere near a coast but I do have significant underlying health issues and catching the virus probably would kill me, so I do understand why the rules are to stay at home.

I understand your frustration - you’ve been following the rules and you should not have to be put at jeopardy now because of someone else’s lunacy.

Just for your information, I have been nowhere near the beach to be moved on. When infact I live within walking distance of one.

Knocking on people's doors to chastise them isn't staying at home either.

Where do you think caravan owners are travelling to? All the caravan sites are closed. We have friends who keep their caravan on a permanent pitch - they went down there before lockdown and were told by the owners of the site they had to leave because they'd had threats of arson from the locals who did not want anybody visiting.

There is one nearby it had a couple of caravans on , I'm sure one of the doors was open. I'll look next time I go past

I live in Cornwall. I totally get it. A relative lives on a road where most of the houses are second home owners and it’s infuriating. It’s selfish and stupid when the nhs is stretched. In Cornwall we only have one main hospital. YANBU. Police are moving people on here.

They are pricks and shouldn’t have done it, but they probably won’t bring the virus into your village if they’re staying in their second homes.

I'm a key worker so have no choice but to go out, these people do and are actually choosing to potentially spread the virus amongst a rural community where there is a seriously limited NHS

Perhaps op they live in an untenable situation in their first home. You don't know really until you walk in their shoes.

Also nothing to do with hating city folk- local resources ( nhs/police etc) are based on permanent residents so when the population goes up when they all turn up if there's a national crisis (like covid 19) there obviously won't be enough resources to go around....

You seem pretty petty reporting them to the police. It may be their second home but it’s still their home and presumably they are 2 metres from everyone else. We have a second home that we let out. I can think of nowhere else I’d rather be right now. we’ve refunded all bookings up until June so far and will obviously keep monitoring the situation for July onwards depending on what’s going on. It’s shit but then, it is what it is. I can’t think of anyone who hasn’t been affected in some way financially, in health terms or emotionally by the lockdown.

the last thing we want to do is piss off permanent residents that we actually have a pretty good relationship with normally. And we are not dickheads. it’s shocking that some folk just don’t seem to bloody care about the communities that they’re supposed to be sort of part of. It’s so very selfish.

OP they’re just selfish arrogant fuckers. Glad you have reported them to the police. I suspect the ones on here procrastinating about it being petty are second home owners or cranks. It’s selfish and down right shit to add a strain to rural services like this.

The point is rural areas do not have the infrastructure that cities do. An outbreak in a remote area with with a high elderly population could be devastating.

OP be honest have you always disliked second home owners and this give you a legitimate reason to go after them?

I’d go over there and give them a piece of my mind. Hopefully it will ruin their ‘holiday’ and make them piss off to their own.

In fairness, our PM has travelled to his country house. Not exactly a good example.

@Wfhwith3yearold is right. NHS resource allocation is base on the permanent population, so everyone who leaves an urban area to stay in a rural one is potentially adding to the strain on local health provision.

Why so many people think the rules don't apply to them beats me. I'm rebellious by nature, but even I can see the need to do as I'm told for once.
