Flights to resume from June 17th. Anyone looking forward to their flights?

Couple of airlines have announced that flights shall resume from June 17th.

www.dailypost.co.uk/whats-on/trips-breaks/tui-ryanair-jet2-announce-date-18068971.amp

I actually came across the article on Facebook and as I scrolled down the comments, I came across the magical September month brigade again.
Schools to resume in September maybe but flights as well? Wouldn't airlines go bust by then?
Also surprisingly I came across lots of comments from NHS workers(can see on their profile photo with their uniform and slogans)saying they are still looking forward to their holidays in June/July/August after all this.
Lots of keyworkers from other sectors as well were also among the ones who are still being optimistic to have break after this.

Personally I am looking forward to my flight in June. My parents live in another country and my father has a terminal disease and I would very much like to see him soon. I am also a citizen of the country and that country relies heavily on tourism, so most probably borders will be open ny June latest.

Anyone else still optimistic about their holidays/flying to your homecountry?

I think that's reasonable as I think schools will go back around a week before that.

Yes, OP the economy would never recover if we waited till September. Although individuals at risk won't be able to fly in June they should be covered by travel insurance.

rookiemere · 11/04/2020 09:00

Bagelsandbrie we're the opposite. Can't wait to travel again for a bit of variety- mind you even going to the Toby Carvery at the minute would fit that brief so I guess we'll see.

@Freefalling123

Very strong username to post correlation. Good point made too.

inwood · 11/04/2020 09:01

These flights won't be leaving, much less landing anywhere else.

Shehz21 · 11/04/2020 09:02

@PomBearsyummy I do wonder as well. My country relies very heavily on tourism, more than any other sector. I am actually worried and heartbroken as it's a small island and so many people have lost their jobs already due to the lockdown.

I think a lot of people won’t want to travel at all after this.

I agree. Travelling to see relatives/return home is a bit different. But I’m truly amazed that anyone is considering flying just for holidays anytime this year. Going forward we all need to quit unnecessary plane travel anyway don’t we so it’s kind of a positive of the outbreak, although of course I feel for those who will lose their jobs and lots of countries economies will suffer terribly.

Freefalling123 · 11/04/2020 09:04

@tallrachel didn’t notice that, has been my username for ages lol!

rookiemere · 11/04/2020 09:06

Actually forgot to say we think our family has had the virus so we are a little more gung ho than others.

Davincitoad · 11/04/2020 09:08

Is this a joke? No one will let us in. Where do you think the virus is going to go????? No one will be going on holiday this summer get real.

Also if schools go back before summer there will be a mass refusal from teachers. It’s not safe. We have not even hit the peak yet s
Nor is there any plan on how to get rid of this.

Flowersforpowers · 11/04/2020 09:11

OP, I can see why you're looking forward to your flight. Visiting family, and it not being a problem if you get stuck, is a very different situation to holidays.

I won't be looking to travel for the rest of 2020 at least.

MrsFezziwig · 11/04/2020 09:11

Are you in Dubai? It says on the Emirates website they have limited approval for some flights OUT of the UAE. It says there are no return flights currently bookable. So if you’re happy to come back to the UK and stay for an indefinite period then that would be possible (18th June is only 10 weeks away).

morecoffeerequired · 11/04/2020 09:12

It's probably a provisional date, and they need to have one because you can't just walk up to an aircraft that's been parked for weeks, get on it and fly off. There's rather a lot of preparation and maintenance that needs to be done first.

crazydiamond222 · 11/04/2020 09:15

I can't see international travel getting back to normal until there is a vaccine. However in the medium term immunity passports may allow some to travel if the anitbody tests become more reliable.

Zaphodsotherhead · 11/04/2020 09:15

Will a vaccine make a difference? Perhaps if they come up with a workable vaccine people will be allowed to travel if they can produce a certificate to show they are 'fit' to enter another country?

But this won't be for a while yet.If they get a breakthrough there may be one by early 2021. I think random travel before that would be a nightmare.

(Random travel being anyone going on holiday, not to visit relatives/home country/isolating on arrival).

LellyMcKelly · 11/04/2020 09:17

Not going to happen. Not even close.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 11/04/2020 09:18

I don't believe there will be no holidays for anyone this year. What about all of those countries who rely heavily on tourism to keep their economies going? They wouldn't survive if they didn't let tourists back in at some point.

Also, I'm fed up of hearing 'we all need to fly less after this' and people rubbing their hands together at the fact that lots of people can't fly and have lost holidays. I'm fed up of being made to feel guilty about the fact that I'm sad at the loss of my holiday.

Harakeke · 11/04/2020 09:20

You won't be coming to New Zealand - our borders will be closed for at least a year.

We also rely massively on tourism, it's going to mean the end of so many businesses.

Wheresthesanitygone · 11/04/2020 09:20

I think a lot of people won’t want to travel at all after this. Dh has said he never wants to leave the UK again. I think the impact on the travel industry is going to be huge

Why?

LoveIsLovely · 11/04/2020 09:22

I think in OPs circumstances (seeing terminally ill family and being prepared to quarantine), it absolutely makes sense.

For general holidays, I'm not so sure. I think every country should be quarantining for two weeks, which isn't cheap (costs about $1000 per person here in Korea). Not many are going to be able to afford that kind of time/money.

Shehz21 · 11/04/2020 09:22

@Freefalling123 That made me shiver a bit! I need to ask DB how this would work(cabincrew Emirates). Maybe he might have some inside infoWink
Good point though.

@rookiemere spirits are 'high' here too as we most definitely suspect we all had it!

@Davincitoad The virus is not going anywhere until next year most probably. How is the travel and hospitality industry going to survive until then? Genuine question.

@underneaththeash my ray of hope of this thread!

@Peapod29 my country is going to suffer massively as they heavily rely on the tourism industry.

@Flowersforpowers Thank you for understanding my POV. I realise many others are also in my situation and must be pining to see their relatives.

@MrsFezziwig
No I live in the UK. Have a double nationality which is why I'm hoping the country I travel to take it into consideration and let me in if remotely safe to do so! I hope I'm not being delusional.
Yes I did mention upthread that only outbound flights from the UAE so my flight booked for end of June from the UK might not go ahead but I'm hoping it will.

@morecoffeerequired good point.

LoveIsLovely · 11/04/2020 09:23

"Dh has said he never wants to leave the UK again"

Why? It's not as though the UK dealt with coronavirus in any sort of timely manner.

Dongdingdong · 11/04/2020 09:24

People are barely allowed to step outside their front door but will be allowed to get on flights and travel thousands of miles? It doesn’t make any sense to me.

Bagelsandbrie · 11/04/2020 09:25

@LoveIsLovely it’s not that, it’s more that he doesn’t want to get stuck anywhere away from home. So many stories of people struggling to get back from places, insurance not covering things and leaving them out of pocket etc etc.

Summersunandoranges · 11/04/2020 09:25

She this is really interesting.

My dd1 lives in Dubai and works as a flight attendant for Emirates. The attendants are on a really strict lock down and we’re told last week they couldn’t leave their apartments. They’d been told the are standing down to the 30th of June. We were supposed to fly out there on the 15th of June but got told we’ve got no chance and I’m struggling to try and get my flights refunded

okiedokieme · 11/04/2020 09:27

Flights are still operating, just on a very reduced schedule (in the U.K.) it all depends on your destination and reason for flying as to whether June is feasible
