Tesco queue at midnight?

depressedindoors · 11/04/2020 00:23

Been logged in since 23:45. Got a slot fine last time but I've been stuck on the queue page for 45 mins. How long does it take on average to get through?

Once you get inside everyone stops to get out there list but obviously its always on a phone .

Yellowshirt · 11/04/2020 01:50

@Legoandloldolls I wouldn't go late at the moment. My experience on Thursday evening after 7pm wasn't good.

y0rkier0se · 11/04/2020 02:33

Lots of Ocado slots tonight for my area despite there having been nothing for 2 weeks now

FourDecades · 11/04/2020 02:51

Just looked..
Nothing for my area of Northampton but loads for my Mum's in Hertfordshire. So have booked her a delivery.

GreenLeafedLemon · 11/04/2020 03:24

Yes take the bus or whatever you need to. Busses are running when I’ve been driving for work, all empty the ones I’ve seen in the daytime.
You can’t starve, and people also need to take food for relatives, get medicine etc

Lockdowner · 11/04/2020 03:32

I've found some Tesco slits 8amish. I've done the midnight thing and got lucky once but the past week or so I've had the same experience as you OP. Waiting an hour then nothing.
I've had more success with the slots released in the mornings.

BubblyBluePebbles · 11/04/2020 03:41

@Yellowshirt
I've been using a paper list. I've got a few small slim list notebooks from Wilko. I bought them a few years ago, so not sure if they still stock them.

CoffeeandPainting · 11/04/2020 03:43

@sarahC40

Reserve your slot. Throw 2 expensive bottles in there. Check out, pay.

Then go back in. Otherwise you will lose your slot

Lockdowner · 11/04/2020 10:51

I didn't get one last night or at early ttoday but my sister got a slot (different part of UK to me) at around 7.30am today. I have managed to get slots in the morning release more often than the midnight ones but it's definately getting harder.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 11/04/2020 11:23

It might be worth checking if you can get a click & collect slot. A lot of taxi firms local to me are offering to pick up your order & deliver it, rather than taking an online delivery slot. Obviously you have to check there's a firm local to you who'll do it, & you have to pay for the taxi, but if it means getting a big shop delivered...

depressedindoors · 11/04/2020 23:53

Trying again tonight, wish me luck! Grin

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea I would, but alas no C&C slots available either.

To those commenting about morning slots, what time are those usually released? I haven't spotted any so far, but I am in London so it could just be higher demand here.

depressedindoors · 12/04/2020 00:10

Phew! A slot has now been acquired. Thanks for the advice everyone!

OP posts:
WobblyAllOver · 12/04/2020 00:12

Well done.

No slots available for me when I got through Sad

depressedindoors · 12/04/2020 00:18

@WobblyAllOver Have you tried the app? I was logged in on both computer and phone app, and phone app always lets you through quicker.

I do wonder in what order they let people in the queue through. Perhaps it's randomised and just a luck of the draw thing?

OP posts:
WobblyAllOver · 12/04/2020 00:23

Yes I did the same had both laptop and app open and the app went through first.

Trying to get one for an elderly relative. Have been lucky in the past but will keep trying each night. This is messing my sleep pattern up terribly staying up every night Sad

Petiolaris · 12/04/2020 07:11

Maybe people are staying up late 'cos most had the day off?
People are forcing themselves to stay awake even if they don’t want to, because they’re so desperate for a slot. Whether you’re elderly, I’ll, exhausted, have to work in the morning, have to get up with kids - it’s irrelevant, you need that slot so you have to stay up. I’ve been going to bed and setting my alarm for 11.30pm to wake up again Sad

Sandybval · 12/04/2020 07:15

If using a phone, I have found it works better if you turn WiFi off and use 3g, no idea why (also managed to get glasto tickets every year on my phone when the other devices have been unsuccessful!).

WobblyAllOver · 12/04/2020 07:44

The fact that some of you are getting slots gives my hope they are still being released.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 12/04/2020 09:04

Got a slot last night too (London)- have not seen a Tesco slot for my area since Johnson's lockdown announcement or maybe even before, and they had a few random ones for the whole week, so they must have increased the capacity massively.
Now fingers crossed for the food to actually make it. We have previously managed random slots from Ocado over the past weeks but their stock was great, and they always had everything we ordered, but when we ordered pre-Corona with Tesco we had quite a few substitutes...

AntiHop · 12/04/2020 09:10

You are definitely allowed to use public transport to get shopping. I do. Millions of people don't have cars.

user1471530109 · 12/04/2020 09:20

Did anyone else notice the web address when waiting in the queue last night? The ending said something like =group4. Do you think this means that they've assigned customers groups and base their priority on that? So group 1 being the shielded group? If so, how have they assigned everyone else! I'm certainly not group 4 (assuming that's rest of population) as I'm in the 'higher risk group' but no way of making that official with supermarkets.

Or am I reading too much into that Grin?

I got a slot by the way.

depressedindoors · 12/04/2020 11:22

@user1471530109 I was in group 1 both times and I'm not vulnerable or priority. I reckon it just assigns you a group, then a certain number is let onto the site at random.

I have stayed up last 3 nights to get a slot and by the time i am througg, sometimes 2 mins after midnight all the slots are booked, how can this be as every week up til now i have managed to get a slot, have tesco changed anything regarding online shop, i am in Northampton.

Hotchocolate19 · 13/04/2020 00:53

Last week I tried until 2am and it kept saying no slots available. When I tried again at 2.30am there were plenty available.
