Are you cleaning your shopping? Cans & packets etc? And what about your post?

Yes, fridge & frozen, other stuff goes in quarantine for a few days or if it needs eating before we wipe it over. Use cleaning spray with bleach

No, not got the time with 2 kids! I just put it in the oven for 5 minutes at 70c. Can do a family shop in 3 oven loads. Anything that I don't need for a while I just hang on the washing line for 48 hours.

We're shielding. We wash anything that has to be freezed or refrigerated. The rest of the stuff goes in the garage for two days before being brought in.

Yes, everything. Alcohol spray over all packaging, tins, plastic wrappers etc (must admit, it was a nightmare spraying down six large Easter eggs) cardboard goes in the stove, same for envelopes. Fruit, tomatoes, apples etc get a spot of washing up liquid and a warm wash. Salad leaves get a hydrogen peroxide wash. Eggs go in an old egg box and the new boxes get put in my composter. I always saw germs everywhere before all this, somewhat worse now!

Gorse - does alcohol spray actually work for surfaces?

Yes, unless it can be left for 3 days it gets washed, same with milk bottles and other deliveries. DS is being shielded so no reason not to be a bit over-cautious.

No. I obey all the rules wash my hands multiple times etc but not this, but then I don’t live with anyone who is very vulnerable.

No I don't and tonight, because I didn't realise Tesco shut early for Good Friday, I have no shopping anyway!

Yes. Flash bleach spray. Is it madness? Probably but then I think 'what if someone sneezed in the biscuit aisle?' Hmm

@Floatyboat you put everything in the oven? Crisp packets? Tins? Milk? 🤔

It's completely mad. And definitely wouldn't use bleach anyway, it's incredibly bad for you even in traces and shouldn't be near food. If at all then any old non bleach surface spray will do fine.

I remove any packaging that I can. Everything else gets washed down in fairy liquid and water before it’s put away. Then I disinfect the surfaces and wash my hands - it’s a lengthy process!

Yes.

The virus can live for 3 days on plastic.

No way am I putting that into my fridge. Too easy to touch it and touch your face without realising when you take it out. Cold or freezing doesn't kill it either.

All plastic/ cartons /tins go into the sink where I spray with a weak solution of bleach then dry.

Fruit etc in plastic packets is removed, plastic thrown away and fruit etc washed.

Post is opened with gloves on and then put into the quarantine corner once read or thrown away.

@Tootletum I don't think anyone has said they spray bleach onto food.

I spray weak bleach onto plastic cartons for milk, packed cheese, sealed packets (not paper obviously.)

If someone in the warehouse has COVID and sneezed or coughed, it's on your food packaging.

At the end of the day I'd rather risk a, unlikely drop of diluted bleach in my mouth than a drop of coronovirus.

Yes, using Lysol wipes (equivalent of Dettol wipes I think).

No I don’t. Like others have said I wash my hands when I get home, unpack everything, wash my hands again, and when I use the items wash my hands again. Wipe down all surfaces bags have been on, put bags away and wash hands again. Fruit and veg I am buying all prepacked now sadly but I would rinse them before use as usual. It all seems ridiculously over the top, not part of the official advice, and surely excessive use of chemicals around food isn’t the greatest of ideas. And the excessive use of wipes is depressing

Some posts on here I can’t even fathom whether people are actually taking the piss or not, although I suspect not given some of the batshittery on here. Putting all your shopping in the oven? Hanging it on a washing line? Seriously? And I thought the washing raspberries in Milton and eggs in soapy water was as crazy as it got.

And wiping down food with bleach and putting it in a fridge?! Bloody hell.

What’s wrong with just following the instructions - wash your hands?

Report
ivenamechangedforthispost · 10/04/2020 21:57

Yes I do.

Me and my daughters were admitted to hospital in late February with bad pneumonia and it was the most awful time in my life. 3 weeks of hell.
To not be able to look after my children was terrible. I can't even describe.

I'm doing everything I can to try and avoid the same situation again.
