Are you wearing gloves and mask to the supermarket?

I’m avoiding going as much as possible but had to go yesterday and noticed that a lot more people were wearing gloves and/or masks, more so than when I went three weeks ago.
I wore disposable gloves as I find they remind me not to touch my face. I wash my hands as soon as I get home and wash or wipe down the shopping. Other than that I don’t suppose there is much more I can do?

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 10/04/2020 12:57

yes I do

PurpleDaisies · 10/04/2020 12:58

No.

canyon2000 · 10/04/2020 12:59

I don't wear a mask or gloves and I don't wash my shopping either.

ceeveebee · 10/04/2020 12:59

Interested as to why people think that it’s necessary to wear gloves? Do you change them every time you touch something? If not then surely they are contaminated as soon as you touch a surface?

hopeishere · 10/04/2020 13:00

No. But I wipe the trolley handle, try to. It touch my face and wash my hands. I work with a microbiologist and that's the advice he gives. Says gloves are pointless.

ceeveebee · 10/04/2020 13:00

And to be honest if I owned any PPE I’d be donating it to my local GP, care home or hospital...

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 10/04/2020 13:01

No I don't do anything

RandomName80 · 10/04/2020 13:07

Yes - now the proud owner of some bright pink surgical gloves. :)

Afternooninthepark · 10/04/2020 13:08

ceeveebee I wear them to stop myself touching my face, I have a habit (since childhood) of touching my nose, wearing gloves is a simple reminder for me not to do that.

Gloves to do click and collect.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 10/04/2020 13:11

Yes - disposable gloves and respirator mask although I am thinking of just sticking to the mask and washing my hands upon return.

IFancyANamechange · 10/04/2020 13:13

No I don’t.

I take some hand sanitiser to use after Ive finished.

sauvignonblancplz · 10/04/2020 13:13

Yep.

wildcherries · 10/04/2020 13:17

Disposable gloves (bad habit of face-touching) and sanitise hands before and after. I don't wash shopping though.

OhTheRoses · 10/04/2020 13:17

No.
The chances of catching Covid-19 severely enough to be tested are miniscule, something like 0.027%. The chances of dying are infinitesimal, something like 0.0031%.

I antibac wipe the trolly handle, the car steering wheel and brake/gear lever/handle, etc, wash hands, social distance, etc, and comply with the rules.

Marpan · 10/04/2020 13:20

Yes and I take the gloves off before I get into my car and wash my hands with wipes and sanitiser and the door handle.

Some People I see driving around with gloves on their steering wheel! I hope they are cleaning that too.

It’s really annoying when people try to say “people don’t know how to use gloves or a mask correctly unless you are a health worker”

It’s a requirement in many countries now before you enter shops or go outside! Although not 100% it clearly does something!!!

Ffsnosexallowed · 10/04/2020 13:22

No, because there is no evidence that it would make any real difference to the risk of getting covid

PristineCondition · 10/04/2020 13:23

Yes. Most other countries who are successfully controlling corvid recommended masks , the only reason we didn't is because the government failed order enough for the NHSbecause they didn't care.

I'm not willing to put myself at risk because they won't admit their mistake

Porcupineinwaiting · 10/04/2020 13:25

Yes, I did yesterday, although in my case it's to be certain I dont infect anyone else (I'm just recovering from the virus).

Honestly, if you haven't had it I've no idea how you'd feel safe without them.

starsparkle08 · 10/04/2020 13:27

No

Saucery · 10/04/2020 13:27

Yes, gloves and mask. Wipe down trolley handle. Open car with Dettol wipe in hand, remove mask and gloves in accordance with good hygiene practice etc.
Also wipe down shopping with 10% bleach solution once home. Leave reusable bags to air outside on line for 72 hours. Throw thinner disposable bags provided by supermarket away.

Pleasedontdothat · 10/04/2020 13:30

No ... because social distancing and hand washing are more effective

And also I’d rather any scare stocks of PPE were being used by people in close contact with COVID-19 patients ..,

Namelesswonder · 10/04/2020 13:30

No, no need. There is no evidence it makes any difference. Nor do I wash my shopping (other than the skin of fruit I’m eating which I normally do anyway). Hand washing is sufficient. Even NHS staff are advised they don’t need PPE all the time. But if it makes you feel better.....
