Any other people think the clapping is stupid and pointless

Myself and partner think it’s a load of crap and don’t participate. For clarity we are both healthcare professionals. We would prefer the NHS to be funded properly and the public use it appropriately. Rather than this hypocrisy and “support”

Honestly. I think a lot of people who do it are doing it more for community spirit rather than for the NHS. My son really wanted to do it tonight so we went out and clapped and it was lovely seeing all the neighbours. I'll be honest, I didnt think of the NHS while I did it. Although I am extremely grateful for what they are doing.

I like to go out and see my neighbours. It’s a time when I know everyone will be there and we can all wave and chat.
You don’t like the clapping then that’s fine. Just ignore it.

Three points

  1. Thank you for doing the work you're doing
  2. Other health professionals do feel supported the clapping and have told me so, so it's a matter of opinion.
  3. Clapping and increased funding aren't an either / or. You can be in favour of both.

No I don't think its stupid - im a nurse , im pretty low myself atm because of covid 19 and how it's affecting peoples lives - seeing all my neighbours clapping this evening cheers me up.

It also gives us all time to check in with each other.

We do it partly to support the NHS, partly because i am worried about my father in hospital and i am really thankful to the NHS staff but for us it is also a lot to do with community spirit to wave/smile at neighbours from a far. Our street isn't normally that friendly or cohesive but i think this has brought us a lot closer together.

Its virtue signalling bollocks. The people I know who are most into it, are the ones who bend the social distancing rules to suit themselves. Its almost like because they've clapped and shown how much they support the nhs they are off the hook for following social distancing.

It just gets on my tits and is meaningless bullshit even on a community level. It enrages and stresses as many people as those who are supposed to feel soothed by the sound of clapping. It's ridiculous nonsense that's led to a spate of copy cat Claps (which competely weaken the stress of the original idea if you support it)

But the worst of all are the dickhead who are letting off bloody fireworks for it...

It's like clapping disconnects your brain for your actions.

@Rufus people love to clap and be “seen”. But do the actually want to cough up and actually fund the NHS properly. Probably not

Some people get strangely worked up about this. Clap, dont clap, most people dont care. If you have neighbours who judge you for not clapping etc then who gives a shit.

On a similar note most of my road have done the rainbow in the window thing, I'm not entirely sure what it is for or have I done it myself. Would be silly of me to get worked up about it though.

It's twee and supposed to make you feel part of the same club.

Or it just makes you want to vomit at how vacuous and shallow it is. Its a way of avoiding the conversation to people about how they are afraid of being evicted, struggling to pay the bills and manage the children. But 'oooo look at all the cute rainbows, arrrrhhhhh'.

FFS.

It doesn't help anyone who is really struggling mentally and can't relate to the 'happy clappy club'.

I like it. All my neighbours come out, it feels like a nice community thing. Someone drove past today and whooped out their window while we were clapping. My kids like doing it. It’s nice 🤷🏼‍♀️
