Why? Why oh why are people still coming here on holiday?

Devon. We have seen caravans and motorhomes and people obviously on holiday (canoe and suitcases etc on car roof, all that stuff; it's bloody obvious), bikes loaded with camping stuff....

We live 20 miles from the beach and none of us have seen a wave for weeks. DH spends half the day complaining because he can't go to the beach in this lovely weather as he normally does.

Thank goodness the market is not on, or we'd be over-run. Really worried as both dd and I are vulnerable (not extremely vulnerable) and dh freaks out every time he has to go out as our Designated Shopper that he'll bring it home to us.

Why are people such arseholes?

We're going to need road blocks!

I also live in a perhaps lesser known holiday town on the east coast of Scotland. Its not warm yet but does have a beautiful beach and golf course. (Links). I personally have not been out in the last four weeks apart from two trips to the shops for food. All week, every day, I see folk walking past with their golf clubs, Ive seen around 10 motor homes and caravans drive down my street.. I feel guilty and uneasy even going out for food! What the fuck is wrong with people? This is not a rehearsal, it's actually happening... My heart goes out to all those families who have lost a loved one to this nasty, evil virus and are having to witness this selfish, mindless behaviour from all these entitled arseholes.
(Apologies for the language. I have had a teary, angry day as I'm sure many others have had too.)

@plantlife Cumbria is the worst hit in England outside London per 100000 people, I think that was the point being made.

To me it’s swings and roundabouts for where is better or worse comparing rural with cities. It’s rubbish for us all in different ways. Here in Cumbria we only have two hospitals (neither close to me) and once when I had a car accident I was taken to a hospital 1hr 20mins away in a different county. But, of course I see the figures in big cities, I have family in London and I’m worried for Londoners too. In actual fact I’m worried for everyone everywhere at the moment.

corabel · 12/04/2020 06:10

Lily19 that's interesting about the golf clubs. I'm in London and the golf courses near me are all closed.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/04/2020 06:51

I'm sure many simply don't realise how it might impact those of us who struggle to fund any home. They're not being deliverately nasty.

In some ways that's worse - they don't think any further than themselves and what they want.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/04/2020 06:57

I’m worried for everyone everywhere at the moment.

So am I, Fell.

The rank and file people everywhere are the ones suffering - the entitled and wealthy are the ones who are able to just sift themselves out of the "danger zones", often carrying infection with them.

If everybody remained int heir main residence (looking at you Stanley-fucking-Johnson, and the many members of the RF who have decamped (even those aware they were infected)) then this impact of this wild have been lessened.

JosieJasper · 12/04/2020 07:15

corabel Our golf clubs are all shut too, but people are still out there using them when they shouldn’t be. Also loads of people sitting and sunbathing on the beach and in parks here 😡 What part of ‘essential’ are these people not getting!?

MinnieMountain · 12/04/2020 07:31

There were golf clubs still open in East Anglia the second weekend of lockdown.

Taddda · 12/04/2020 10:01

I did wonder how many people Prince Charles came into contact with before/after he was infected, he was pictured on his meet and greets, 'tapping elbows'? Kate Garraway said she'd met him just before it was announced he'd contracted it and her poor husband now....

We did everything too late, too 'softly'...I'm getting really saddened by these numbers (doesn't help that the next street from me seems to have been having a garden party since Friday...can't see them, just music and crowd noise...Sad)

FrangipaniBlue · 12/04/2020 10:09

*I feel the same about you as you do about me. I think you're rather unpleasant.

I'm unpleasant? For what stating a few facts? Confused

The point is NOBODY is protected and EVERYWHERE has it bad, but for differing reasons!

But I guess there are some people who always have to make it about them and the race to the bottom.

Wolfgirrl · 12/04/2020 10:09

@taddda

What makes me cross is the lack of accountability in these circumstances.

Despite having his whole luxurious life funded by the taxpayer, PC will never have to answer as to why he flew off the Scotland when already showing symptoms. He will just do what the royals always do, ignore the criticism and kick it into the long grass. There is no mechanism by which we can penalise them for things like this.

Yet an elderly lady that sits on a deserted park bench for 5 minutes gets publicly shamed online.

Couldn't make this shit up.

plantlife · 12/04/2020 12:14

FrangipaniBlue So you actually agree with me! What were you so angry about then. Confused

Anyway, yes, as I've been saying in my posts here, no-one should be at risk anywhere, it's scary for everyone. And re the other issues discussed here, people priced out of home areas, hospital closures, are not unique to a particular area. It's a problem across the UK. A few posters suggested it was a problem only in rural areas (presumably they never watch the news about the London housing crisis).

Obviously, you don't, as you implied in earlier posts, have it worse in Cumbria than London. It's undeniably the case it's worse for Londoners. People there are far more at risk of catching it, and therefore more at risk of dying from it. As I've also said that doesn't mean it's not awful for everywhere else. Just that statistically you're likely to be safer where you are than people here.

As I've said before, that doesn't make it ok for anywhere else to suffer. Nor do I begrudge other places having more of a chance to minimalise spread. Any failings are down to the government. It's good that attempts to protect some areas are being made, police road blocks, etc. Lockdown happened too late to protect London and the West Midlands, but it might just help rural areas. And as I've said, I hope it does. I don't gain pleasure from others suffering as badly as Londoners.

I really should ignore posters who are clearly have some sort of agenda. Shouting, quoting me out of context, (deliberately?) misinterpreting my posts (trying to make out I'm saying something I'm not), twisting my words, using personal insults.

Thank you @NKFell I've said it in several posts now that I really hope people like the angry rude poster represent only a minority of rural people. You seem nice and I'd like to think you represent the majority. I was saying I'm earlier posts how much I hoped it wouldn't get worse for Cumbria and other places. I hope you and your family wherever they are stay safe.

NKFell · 12/04/2020 13:06

@plantlife and @FrangipaniBlue I agree with you both!

Totally @SchadenfreudePersonified, I think what’s upsetting when rural is how few and far between the hospitals are compared to cities. We’re not meant to have everyone here at once all with a greater risk than usual for getting ill. Not that I don’t understand people wanting to leave overcrowded cities but a lot here are coming to their second, third or even fourth home. I would guess they live in a lovely part of a city.

justasking111 · 12/04/2020 13:45

Living rurally if covid positive visitors did get here this weekend, we will not know the outcome for two weeks or more. We will suffer the fall out then.

1forsorrow · 12/04/2020 14:58

No 10 announce Johnson has been discharged from hospital and is going to Chequers to continue his recovery. Why is it OK for him to go to "his" country home?

Tonyaster · 12/04/2020 15:00

Why is it OK for him to go to "his" country home?

Because he's not infectious and immune.

1forsorrow · 12/04/2020 15:09

But there isn't a rule to say you can travel if you have it. The rules are for everyone and as everyone on here says if you drive to the end of the road, what if there is an accident or they run out of petrol. Is his fiancee going with him, she hasn't had it confirmed that she had it.

So can people who have had it now travel to country homes?

1forsorrow · 12/04/2020 15:09

have had it not have it.

1forsorrow · 12/04/2020 15:10

By the way we don't know if people are immune after having it.

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 12/04/2020 15:13

Having come out of hospital, Boris is not going from one residence to another, and in theory should now be CV free having just recovered from it? Why shouldn't he go there? Obviously if he goes there he should stay there and not travel around until lockdown is over .....

justasking111 · 12/04/2020 15:15

No 10 is his office, chequers his home.

1forsorrow · 12/04/2020 15:19

He has been back at No 10. He lives at No 10, he and his fiancee have another home in London. Chequers is not his home.

I am sure it will be good for his recovery to go to the country, the point is why isn't that a choice for other people? Be fair if someone turned up in your town/village would they be criticised for travelling or would people say they've been ill so it is OK for them to travel?

Lordfrontpaw · 12/04/2020 15:37

Wasn’t he living in a flat in number 11 before he went into hospital?

XingMing · 12/04/2020 15:46

Under the circumstances, I don't have a problem with the Prime Minister recently discharged from intensive care going to recuperate in the country residence given to the nation for the use of Prime Ministers before resuming the tiller. A fortnight resting and recovering is probably a good idea, and I'm sure he will be reading and thinking most of his waking hours.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/04/2020 16:05

By the way we don't know if people are immune after having it.

There are some reports from Chins which suggest that people can be re-infected.
