Yet another fucking night I have been waiting up desperately trying to secure a slot for delivery/click&collect, as I’m pregnant and don’t drive and also running out of fresh food. But no slots available.

I’m sorry, I just wanted to fucking rant. Rant over.

OP posts:
Soontobe60 · 09/04/2020 09:45

OP, great for getting a slot, I'd still go for n throughout the day as you may be able to change that slot to an earlier one. Tescos round me seem to release them throughout the day. I changed a slot to an earlier one last week just by hapeningnto go not add to my list.

Missteebeee · 09/04/2020 09:53

Why not just get a Morrison’s box?

Daisiest · 09/04/2020 09:56

Ask the baby's father do drop a shop off.

Hannah021 · 09/04/2020 10:03

@Daisiest
what if her partner passed away?
What if he's in edinburgh and she's in london?
What if he's a high risk and shielded?
What if there is no partner and she used a donor?
What if she doesnt know who the father is???
What if she was rapped and cant deal with a criminal????????

What is wrong with ppl???? If he was an option, u really think she didnt consider him??

Hannah021 · 09/04/2020 10:04

Sorry typing from phone, to many typos above

opticaldelusion · 09/04/2020 10:07

Unless there's a 0% risk for someone, that's too much of a risk, sorry

I think you'll struggle to get a zero risk.

opticaldelusion · 09/04/2020 10:10

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask why the baby's father can't do some shopping. No doubt there's a perfectly good reason and we don't actually need to know what that is but the OP doesn't mention it at all. A simply 'BTW, the baby's father can't do this' would be useful.

There was a thread on here the other day where someone said over and over that it was really stressful for her to take her two small children to the shops and she was worried about her own health but she was perfectly open about the fact that she lived with her completely well husband. The advice, of course, was that he go to the shops.

You can't just assume that people have considered an option and dismissed it for legitimate reasons.

Enb76 · 09/04/2020 10:16

I’ve found local companies who deliver a godsend. A local restaurant wholesaler has opened to the public, my local butcher delivers, local milk deliveries etc... you have to visit more online shops but the quality has been outstanding. I’m not sure I’ll go back to supermarkets at all.

Intelinside57 · 09/04/2020 10:21

I was also going to encourage people to look beyond the main supermarkets. A lot of smaller businesses are adapting quickly to the circumstances and setting up delivery services. Particularly useful for fresh stuff, but our local Nisa is delivering to vulnerable people now, so you can get other items.

Dollywilde · 09/04/2020 10:23

Sympathies, OP. I'm in London and can't get a slot for love nor money. Also pregnant, 22 weeks - I'm lucky to have DH who goes to the supermarket for us but frankly I may as well be going myself, if picks up Covid at the supermarket I'm almost certain to get it myself, so...

CeibaTree · 09/04/2020 10:31

Ocado are releasing slots at 6pm each day - does it have to be Tesco?

VerbenaGirl · 09/04/2020 10:34

Are any local independent shops / wholesale suppliers / restaurants delivering? We have quite a few where we are, e.g. local Spar doing same day deliveries, independent restaurant now doing grocery boxes, butcher delivering meat boxes. Also the milkman is delivering more, if you can get signed up with one. Do you have a Brake depot near you - you could do an order and get a taxi firm to pick it up for you?

dingit · 09/04/2020 10:37

I shop in store as I can. This week a bottle of wine scanned twice. I messaged Tesco on Facebook and they sorted a refund ( for twice the value) in under an hour. Excellent customer service.

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 10:38

Unless there's a 0% risk for someone, that's too much of a risk, sorry.

So you don't think delivery drivers should be bringing you your groceries...?

HonkersVonFlapperson · 09/04/2020 10:42

@SoupDragon Barvo, well said.

Nothing is zero risk in life, absolutely nothing.

Iamamoleinthegarden · 09/04/2020 10:46

I understand your frustration but you cannot ignore what is going on.

We were unprepared and lulled into a false sense of security by the initial data which was misleading at best.

There is a global pandemic and the world has been put on hold to buy us some time and not overwhelm whole societies. A comparable event would be the Spanish flu.

Tesco’s deserve a medal for the superhuman efforts that they as a whole have been making to keep us being fed.

The money that they have spent trying to overcome a short term problem of stocking and delivery will impact their profits and they have already made a statement about this.

For yourself there is an army of people out there ready to help you who could pick up your groceries but you have to contact them.

Whenever you can help others but at times you have to ask for help too.

Iamamoleinthegarden · 09/04/2020 10:49

Can you change the title of this thread to something more realistic and positive.

Tesco’s are as essential as the NHS.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 10:55

SoupDragon
if you go there, NHS staff should stay home too....

SoupDragon · 09/04/2020 11:07

if you go there...

I didn't. You said only a 0% risk was acceptable.

Unless, of course those people are risking themselves to "serving" you.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 11:11

SoupDragon
It's not about serving me. I guarantee you the delivery man dropping items at my door is much less at risk than the workers who will be in contact with me in the shops.

If that helps, the current unnecessary risk of doing unnecessary shopping whilst I could have a delivery is too high.

It's grossly misleading to pretend some people are absolutely fine to go shopping whilst others are not. It doesn't quite work like that. If I can avoid to see one of my kids hooked up to a respirator, I will do everything I can for that. Kids get it too, some die too.

MintyMabel · 09/04/2020 11:15

live with 2 elderly relatives with underlying conditions

They aren’t on the vulnerable list either?

MintyMabel · 09/04/2020 11:18

We were unprepared and lulled into a false sense of security by the initial data which was misleading at best

Apart from the people who actually saw this coming and tried to prepare. Oh yes, they were the ones who were shouted down for “panic buying” and “stockpiling” when in fact, all they did was to get couple of weeks extra shopping in.

goldpartyhat · 09/04/2020 11:33

Could the NHS volunteer service help with food deliveries? Not sure how to contact them though

Iamamoleinthegarden · 09/04/2020 12:30

@mintymabel

There is no problem so big that we can’t make it worse.

Greenmum2019 · 09/04/2020 13:07

Iceland add slots randomly throughout the day. Always for the immediate 5 days. Not logic to it I dont think. But just went on and got one for Monday
