Yet another fucking night I have been waiting up desperately trying to secure a slot for delivery/click&collect, as I’m pregnant and don’t drive and also running out of fresh food. But no slots available.

I’m sorry, I just wanted to fucking rant. Rant over.

It's so hard to try and secure a spot isn't it. I randomly looked on Asda about 2-4pm last week and there were loads of C&C and some deliveries. Managed to get my C&C for today. I also managed to get one with Iceland and I don't usually use Iceland but got it for the next day! They do quite a bit of fresh stuff on there was so quite surprised actually.

corabel · 09/04/2020 08:34

I think it's unfair to say you hate Tesco. Reserve your ill feelings for people who don't need a slot but continue to book them. There are many of those on Mumsnet.

stayathomer · 09/04/2020 08:34

I hate the way people have decided their levels of who are the most vulnerable etc are the only way. In life it's normal for a pregnant person to be seen as someone who's vulnerable, the person is looking out for the life of their baby. All the 'is there something else wrong with you? My dh/dp etc has something much worse' isn't helping. And Angry to the people asking about partners!!!

Frankiecandle · 09/04/2020 08:37

It's not Tescos fault. They are working at capacity and the pickers are having to start work at 3 in the morning to avoid being on the shop floor with the public to try and keep safe.

Playmistyforme66 · 09/04/2020 08:38

Loads of slots for delivery and click & collect available at Sainsbury’s where I am but I have a delivery pass. I’ve been able to get my weekly delivery as normal.

champagneandfromage50 · 09/04/2020 08:52

Its2much4me I sat on the queue from around 11.55 . Interestingly when i got through at 12.10 using the phone app it said there were no slots. Thankfully i left my laptop open and when i got through the queue all the slots were there. Very strange system but I was pleased to get a slot. My DH is in the extremely vulnerable group and we are staying in doors

Callimanco · 09/04/2020 08:53

playmisty, read the room. You are in an incredibly privileged position. There are not "loads" of slots. My husband has a heart condition and my son has a life threatening autoimmune condition that flares up in response to viruses. We aren't on the list and we can't get slots.

OP I have done a combination of deliveries (eg meat box, veggies, dairy) which, yes, are more expensive than "pre covid" days, and a trip to the supermarket with a list once a week, which I hate doing but actually feels ok and is well managed.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 09/04/2020 08:57

I boycott Sainsbury’s now. Have done for many months. COVID19 is just the icing on the cake, for me and Sainsburys.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 09/04/2020 08:59

Sorry OP, that wasn’t helpful. Are there no volunteers in place who might help? Where I live, volunteers from the church are delivering food.

HonkersVonFlapperson · 09/04/2020 08:59

I hate the way people have decided their levels of who are the most vulnerable etc are the only way.

Actually, Public Health England decided their are different levels of vulnerability.

And yes, in normal day-to-day circumstances, someone with cancer and having treatment should be given priority over a pregnant woman (with no complications etc.).

JulesJules · 09/04/2020 09:00

M and S are also doing £35 food boxes, am thinking of ordering one for my Dad. At the moment my DH is doing his shopping as well as ours

MontysOarlock · 09/04/2020 09:01

I was listening to a podcast a couple of months ago that said that supermarket online shopping had a really small pull, I think they said 6% it may have been less, so the vast majority of shoppers were happy to go into the store and pick their own groceries.

I was one of those online shoppers for click and collect, mainly because scan and go opens at 8am.

Now that everyone and his dog want an online system for shopping the supermarkets just can't cope with the demand.

I know this has been mentioned up thread but where is your partner in all of this?

I don't use click & collect anymore due to others in much more need of it than me.

kingis · 09/04/2020 09:04

Try Sainsbury's. Ours sent email that vulnerable had taken their slots and there is some left for others. I got a slot and another one this week.

Playmistyforme66 · 09/04/2020 09:05

@Callimanco there are loads of slots where I am, but I imagine it varies depending on where you are in the country. As far as I am aware slots are only available to pass holders after the vulnerable have theirs.

If pass holders have any priority or privilege in booking then perhaps remember that if not for pass holders using the service weekly for years the service may not exist at all for anyone at this time.

Selfsettling3 · 09/04/2020 09:08

DH is in the shielding group. We have a delivery saver with Tesco which we have used for years. Not heard a peep from them but have been offers priority slots from ASDA, Sainsburys and Iceland.

Selfsettling3 · 09/04/2020 09:13

@stayathomer the level of vulnerability is decided by public health England based on research of those who are most likely to catch and die from covid - 19. The people on the shielded list would mostly likely not be ventilated if their breathing bad and would be allowed to die as it would be seen as too traumatic for their bodies to handle. Do you still want to be in the shielded group?

MamaBearOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 09:16

Well done OP!

The times of availability seem to be completely random. Don't forget your local greengrocers/butchers and so on - A LOT of shops who didn't are now delivering, even in London.

TheStuffedPenguin · 09/04/2020 09:16

Tesco have written to all Delivery saver people and said that you are getting it for FREE right now and a partial refund for previous month . Check your e mails .Loving Tesco right now as can't get a slot at all with Sainsbury ( my preferred ) which is a PITA as we are self isolating due to health and age but not "bad enough" to get a pass. Yes it is still hard work to get a Tesco one but at least there is some hope.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 09:20

The people on the shielded list would mostly likely not be ventilated if their breathing bad and would be allowed to die as it would be seen as too traumatic for their bodies to handle.

true, but a) it doesn't mean everyone not on the shielded list would survive b) who would risk to have to be put into an artificial coma to have a tiny chance to survive such a gruelling process, and the months of recoveries needed after.

Everyone is at risk. Every single person and you do not know if you'd have mild symptoms or would die. People would take the social distancing more seriously if they could get that simple fact in their head.
That would also bring more protection to the people on the vulnerable list.

kiki22 · 09/04/2020 09:24

I blame the hundreds of low risk people who could go out to shop with low risk but choose to get delivery slots with no thought for people like you.

bluebeck · 09/04/2020 09:30

I think the reason people are asking about OPs DP is that there was a previous thread where it turned out the DP couldn't go shopping on account of his penis Grin

I am glad you got a slot OP. Morrisons and M&S food boxes are great if you aren't too fussy and just want some kind of food.

HonkersVonFlapperson · 09/04/2020 09:36

The people on the shielded list would mostly likely not be ventilated if their breathing bad and would be allowed to die as it would be seen as too traumatic for their bodies to handle.

Very important to remember that many people on the shielding list would still be given a ventilator. Statements like these are very dangerous to throw around. Please remember those on the shielding list are dealing with a lot of additional stress in their lives right now.

Everyone is at risk.

A very different level of risk for those on the shielding list.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/04/2020 09:37

As you and the people you live with are in the vulnerable category you can ask a doctor or midwife to refer you to an NHS volunteer community responder.

I am one of these and one of my duties will be shopping for vulnerable people who are self isolating. I've been on duty for a week and a half now and not had one call out yet and I'm aware of loads of others like me who are sitting around waiting for their first call out.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 09:39

A very different level of risk for those on the shielding list

Unless there's a 0% risk for someone, that's too much of a risk, sorry.
It's all well and good not to be on a vulnerable list, but who will look after my kids if I am stuck in hospital for a start?

tenlittlecygnets · 09/04/2020 09:44

I've just been to Tesco pharmacy to collect a prescription and there must have been over 100 people queueing outside to get in, and the store was busy inside (not everyone sticking to the 2m signs, gah).

TBH I think Tesco is doing pretty well to try to prioritise vulnerable people - they just don't have enough slots to feed everyone.

Just checked out the delivery app and there are no slots until 29 April, and none yet released after that, so people who normally get slots are having to shiop. Which is fair enough, tbh.
