Yet another fucking night I have been waiting up desperately trying to secure a slot for delivery/click&collect, as I’m pregnant and don’t drive and also running out of fresh food. But no slots available.

I’m sorry, I just wanted to fucking rant. Rant over.

I randomly got an Asda slot as a new customer. I don't need it now because Ocado got their act together, but I can only suggest you try alll the supermarkets, from Iceland and Asda to Waitrose. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Also look at your local FB pages. A lot of local food businesses have gone delivery only. My DD had some great quality fresh fruit, veg and meat delivered to her by a local hotel owner.

LookTheOtherWayPlease · 09/04/2020 01:42

I wouldn't get a taxi. Sitting in a confined space with someone who dos that all day with lots of strangers is probably something to avoid unless you really can't. I would rather walk to the supermarket and back every day of the week than take a taxi to collect one big shop.

Sleeplessnights1234 · 09/04/2020 01:42

Both myself and dp tried to get slots tonight. None showed up for me, but on his account there was lots. Try another email account, I've seen this happen a few times now.

PumpkinP · 09/04/2020 01:45

Yeh I don’t really get the taxi suggestion either, no way, I would rather walk and I don’t live close to my local supermarket. But I wouldn’t take the risk of a bus/taxi.

Are you a single parent op?

Milky77 · 09/04/2020 01:54

Can't anyone just rant anymore? It's frustrating and I hear you, OP

And surely it's fair to to assume if the op is trying to do online delivery she needs to do it and there's noone who can help her. Give her a break rather than underhanded jibes about partners

GotTheCityOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 01:56

@LookTheOtherWayPlease Most taxi firms have Hackneys/Vitos within their fleet; which have a partition between passenger and driver.
If you've no other option than taxi, that's the best way to do it.

PumpkinP · 09/04/2020 01:57

Not necessarily, and it’s not a “jibe” as I’m a single parent myself, I’ve seen posts from people who don’t like asking their partners to do the shop because they are working etc, so they feel bad asking. Op hasn’t confirmed she doesn’t have anyone to help, and even if she doesn’t she can still go shopping unless there is going to be a drip feed that she’s in the extremely vulnerable list.

Its2much4me · 09/04/2020 02:05

I don’t have anyone else to ask. I live in london so that could be why there’s nothing available. I know it’s not tesco’s fault but I really just wanted to rant. I’m over it now - until tomorrow night! Grin
Took a while ttc this child so being extremely cautious and also live with 2 elderly relatives with underlying conditions. Hence why I needed a slot.

Thank you for your responses and tips though

My post was definitely not a jibe. Some people prefer to do their own food shopping. I most definitely do but ask the father if not.

In my city taxis have particians and full plastic covers on all seating that gets sprayed before the next customer. Definitely a good option if your city is taking the same precautions. Easy to ask whilst ordering it.

alloutoffucks · 09/04/2020 02:07

I think I am going to have to order some Morrison's boxes so we have some food to eat.

HonkersVonFlapperson · 09/04/2020 02:11

@Its2much4me There is lots available in London. Able and Cole are delivering, Convent Garden Market are delivering, there are so many options. Most local restaurants and cafes are doing boxes now and delivering or doing collection.

Jaysis, I thought you were going to say you were out on the sticks or something...

Its2much4me · 09/04/2020 02:12

I just got a slot!!! for 29th April! Shock

Seeingadistance · 09/04/2020 02:16

Try contacting your local church, or local community Facebook groups and ask if someone can get shopping for you.

lifeonaloop · 09/04/2020 02:17

Try Iceland. They release new slots daily from 11am

Theflushedzebra · 09/04/2020 02:25

Can anyone get any slots anywhere?! My mum's in a vulnerable group, just had confirmation from Sainsbury's that she's been accepted on their vulnerable group list, and so will get one delivery a week - but her account still isn't giving her delivery slots, and when she can't get through on the phone. It's a fecking nightmare.

ClientQ · 09/04/2020 02:29

@Theflushedzebra I got through to them on this number and they updated my account. Still no available slots but I could book one if there were.. HmmGrin ‭0800 052 5500‬

HonkersVonFlapperson · 09/04/2020 02:32

@Theflushedzebra it takes a few days for the slots to show up once the confirmation has come through. Then there will be a range of slots from 1 day to 3 days in advance (in my experience). They tend to release them throughout the day, not at one set time.

Mangosocks · 09/04/2020 02:33

There's slots just opened on the 29th on my Tesco, all availabke but every other day is full though.

Theflushedzebra · 09/04/2020 02:34

Thank you ClientQ, I'll get her to try that.

Theflushedzebra · 09/04/2020 02:35

Ooh thanks Honkers - I'll tell her that too.

Imstillskanking · 09/04/2020 02:52

Glad you got a slot, even if it is so far away lol.

I would be seriously researching other options. Fruit and veg and meat delivery companies, corner shops, I think deliveroo and companies like that are also delivering shopping.

I understand wanting to use the supermarkets because they have everything, but I don't think it's worth the hassle right now.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 09/04/2020 02:56

Have a look on Facebook for groups with names along the lines of " COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network". Not only do they have volunteers who can help, they also usually know which local businesses are doing home deliveries. I know a lot of small shops and independent producers are doing deliveries now, even when they never did before!

BritWifeinUSA · 09/04/2020 03:29

What’s the father of the child doing to help in this situation?

5H1T · 09/04/2020 03:36

If you’re shielding

There is a huge difference between shielding and being a pregnant non-driver.

SpudsAreLife84 · 09/04/2020 06:47

If your partner isn't living with you, can't he drop things round?Confused

Alternatively, taxi drivers here are happy to go to click and collect for people and drop the shopping round for an extra £10 on top of the fare, might be worth giving your local firms a call and asking if they will do the same Smile
