Is anyone not going outside for their permitted daily exercise?

OP posts:
Starlightstarbright1 · 08/04/2020 20:28

I go out every few days . Walked to the post box today otherwise wouldn’t of gone out.

Tootletum · 08/04/2020 20:29

Make sure you get 20 mins outside without suncream on every day. Generates vitamin D better than pills do. Very important for immunity.

ReginaGeorgeous · 08/04/2020 20:31

Me. I hate exercise at the best of times. We are fortunate to have a big garden so that the DC can get plenty of fresh air. We go out for a walk on a Sunday and that’s it.

PickAChew · 08/04/2020 20:31

Most joggers are fine, artie but we had one who appeared every time we were out, whichever direction we headed in, for the first week of lock down and as well as being the heavy breathing type, he was the not giving 2 shits about social distancing type.

Haven't seen him for a while.

lubeybooby · 08/04/2020 20:31

You can't get vitamin D from the sun in the UK til between May and September anyway and then only between 11am and 2pm (something to do with a certain angle of the sun)

I do take vitamin D though and so should everyone, whether you go out for exercise or not, as if you are out at those times it's peak burn risk and you and kids should be wearing sunscreen which blocks creation of vit D

Anyway - to answer the OP nope, I'm working out indoors with various stuff and youtube vid, and/or an elliptical machine

Lookingforwardtomyeastereggs · 08/04/2020 20:31

I’d love to, but my street connects two main roads, both of which are filled with panting spraying fucking joggers.

I run, I'm not particularly good at it and I'm not overly fit, but I don't pant and spray. I've never been sprayed on by a runner either.

doubleshotespresso · 08/04/2020 20:31

No we don't go out at all or rather haven't for over two weeks.
Our biggest concern is our 5 year old who would be considered vulnerable/at risk and are desperately trying avoid the unthinkable trip to hospital where we would not be permitted to accompany them.
This, whatever it is is just so frightening I'd rather endure a few weeks of fractiousness than the awful alternative

Tigger001 · 08/04/2020 20:32

I use mine, my DH doesnt, my best mate doesnt and neither does my brother.

So it's a mixed bag.

blossombabies · 08/04/2020 20:33

we were isolating for three weeks and have finally started going out for daily walks/bike rides (kids, not me my lungs are not there yet!) and around 7:30 pm there doesn't seem to be anyone in the street where we live. 3 days so far and not a living soul outside so we are going to stick to that timing.

HoffiCoffi13 · 08/04/2020 20:33

I do, and I enjoy every minute of it.

I’ll leave the exercising to all the hundreds of thousands that actually never used to bother before Covid 19

Don’t you think it’s more likely they they did used to bother, but they used to go to the gym, or to classes, or played organised sport, or went for a swim, or got their exercise doing the school run or walking to work, and now they’re no longer able to do those things they’re going for a run/walk/cycle in their local area instead?
Maybe it’s down to the circles you move in but I can’t think of anyone I know who doesn’t do any form of exercise. Lockdown has just meant they’ve had to change the way they get their exercise.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 08/04/2020 20:33

We had to self isolate for two weeks after the schools closed - we weren't sick, it's complicated. During this time I've been using my spin bike and Les Mills On Demand for exercise and felt that was ok.

After the two weeks were up I went for a walk and was quite scared by the number of people who clearly didn't care about anybody else, filling the pavements. I came home vowing not to go back out again.

However this morning I got up early and went out before 7. Completely different experience, yes there were people out but all of them were considerate. I managed to walk for the full hour and that's my plan from now on, at least while the weather allows it. My day has been much nicer having got out.

Whatdayisit2 · 08/04/2020 20:34

Me. I do YouTube workouts or a bit in the garden I'm fortunate to have. It's too scary to go outSad

HoffiCoffi13 · 08/04/2020 20:34

Oh and I’ve never once been panted on or sprayed by a runner, where on Earth do you live??

timeforawine · 08/04/2020 20:36

We do PE with Joe Wicks every day and go for a walk every afternoon, we're lucky though, rural, only 15 houses and never bump into anyone

QuimJongUn · 08/04/2020 20:38

Me and DH go out for an hour every day when he finishes work. I walk quite slowly (I have RA) so it's not like we're walking miles. It's really important for my joints/health that I walk and stay mobile when I'm feeling well enough to - some days even getting out of bed is too painful. I'm also going to the supermarket two or three times a week - I hate it, I don't want to but we don't drive and I came carry very much on each trip, so I need to go more often.

I do love our evening walks, though. We don't have a garden or any outdoor space so they're essential.

orangejuicer · 08/04/2020 20:40

I was but stopped this week. The Queen's speech and Boris freaked me out.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 08/04/2020 20:41

We have been out twice for a walk both times we put the kids in the buggy so they couldnt touch anything and walked round the block. We dont have a big garden but we have a trampoline so ive been using that for exercise and the kids have been quite happy playing out there.

dyscalculicgal96 · 08/04/2020 20:42

We like to go to a local park.
For exercise, I take a rounder bat or tennis ball with me. I live in a apartment complex so no garden. Before the quarantine started, the children and I would head downtown to a local pool for a informal swimming lesson. Last summer, we played games of tennis at a nearby park. Other than that, we still tend to go on lots of walks. To the local shops etc. The whole town is quiet.

DBML · 08/04/2020 20:43

I am loving my daily exercise like never before. We live near 4 small lakes, but they are not well known. They are beautifully landscaped and have a pathway all the way around them. They are full of ducks, geese and swans all preparing for their babies. We even have egrets and cormorants at the moment. There is also a lot of wetlands between. It’s beautiful, but very quiet. You might pass one or two other people. Looking at my phone it takes around 12,000 steps to do the whole circuit. In the sunshine this has been bliss.

I work full time through the week, clean the house on Saturdays and visit family on Sundays, so we’ve never had the time to walk as much before. We’ve discovered something wonderful and I’ve lost a bit of weight in the process.

CoronaIsShit · 08/04/2020 20:44

I have been doing a 50 minute fast walk/jog daily. Ached worse than after a gym session at first! I’m really enjoying it now and it gives me some much needed peace. I tend to just step into the road now when people are approaching as they will not make room and I don’t want to be forced to be too close to them. Luckily our estate hasn’t got much traffic! I have noticed other joggers and runners doing that too.

DH has got into a routine of taking the DC out at around 10pm to play hide and seek in the forestGrin after he’s finished work. Thankfully they find it more fun going out with him.

I just force them into the garden a few times a day to get some sun by threatening to change the WiFi password.

SummerSazz · 08/04/2020 20:44

I go for a run at 6.45 weekdays for 45 mins and see one or two people in the distance. Did I do this before lockdown? No. I was getting ready to leave at 7.25 to take the kids to school and go on to work in time for a parking space 🤨. I'd then walk around the office, pop over to Waitrose and walk my daughter to her badminton club in the evening. Both are 10k steps but achieved in different ways.

And so what if this whole thing is encouraging people to lose weight and exercise. That HAS to be an overall win for the populations health (obv assuming the pesky runners aren't spluttering.....)

Redwinestillfine · 08/04/2020 20:45

No. Although I may do a walk this week now Easter holidays have started because I'm off work. We have been in the garden everyday, and doing various exercise videos. To be honest I have been working and trying to homeschool kids so it's been a bit full on.

DBML · 08/04/2020 20:45

My average daily steps this past few weeks has been 14,000.

When I was working it was 5000.

YorkshirePud1 · 08/04/2020 20:45

I'm not. I'm nearing my due date and although I know it's not exactly hugely risky to go for a walk round the block, I just feel like I'd rather stick to my garden for now and doing a bit of yoga and Pilates at home. I'm a little stir crazy, but I can deal with it.

girlicorne · 08/04/2020 20:49

No, I don't exercise anyway other than running around with the kids at this weekends (in our old life) so i don't feel the need to start now. The council have closed the car parks to all of our country parks and there is nowhere to park nearby so we have the choice between tramping the streets which is boring and depressing or a recreation ground, again it's juts a field the size of a footie pitch, maximally dull. We have been there a couple of times since lock down started but the kids are quite happy on their trampoline in the garden and I m spending most of the day out there too so getting sunshine and Vitamin D. I really don't see the point of going for pointless boring walks around a quite frankly dull neighbourhood.
