To believe some people relish on scaremongering?

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:14

I have just received a voicenote(wish i could attach)from a healthcare professional about this Thursday being our peak. 900 deaths a day. One third of them being babies, toddlers and teenagers without underlying health condition. Exercises being banned from next week with army deployed on the street. Banned from going out even for food shop except for 'essentials' and will need a paper stamped to show proof of that. She advises heavily to not go in our gardens,no bbq in our gardens, eat indoors , exercise indoor.

The lady on the vn mentions it is nowhere an exaggeration and that this comes from Public Health England.

AIBU to think this is not true and is some sort of scaremongering?

I have only been out few times since the lockdown either for food shopping or for a walk.
I am abiding by the rules as should everyone.
However I disagree with the scaremongering that some people seem so keen to spread around more than the actual virus.

I’ve just been sent the same one.
I’m ignoring it and doing what I’ve always been doing.
Yes some people love the drama.

SlipSlidin · 08/04/2020 11:17

Who said this? Don’t know what a voice note is either.

cardibach · 08/04/2020 11:17

I am half expecting some kind of tightening of regulations soon but not to the extent there - even I. Places with very strict rules, like Italy, people are on their balconies!
We are still increasing the death numbers daily because of the maths, so she might be right on numbers, but I’d be surprised if as many as that were very young people as that would be very different fro: the experience elsewhere in the world.

cardibach · 08/04/2020 11:20

Also I think they estimate the leak on about 17th, don’t they?

cardibach · 08/04/2020 11:20

Peak not leak

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 08/04/2020 11:20

It's not great, but by reposting the content on here without a source you are helping to perpetuate it OP. If someone read your first paragraph and then for whatever reason didn't read the rest of the post, they would be suitably scaremongered by it.

FiveShelties · 08/04/2020 11:27

Yes people love scaremongering, but why would you repeat that action on here?

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:34

@WhatHappenedToBathPearls

That is certainly not my intention and I would think from anyone reading my title would know that I am most certainly AGAINST scaremongering.

OP posts:
WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 08/04/2020 11:36

MNers aren't exactly famous for reading the thread title/OP properly though.

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:36

@FiveShelties I have asked for opinions as well about whether I am being unreasonable about it being untrue and not believing it. Or if anyone else would think there might be some truth to this and explain it to me maybe?

Apologies as it is certainly not my intention to repeat that action here.

This voice note was going around a couple of weeks ago OP. It was off the back of the fake news of the army being deployed in London to stop people going out. I did find an article about the VN I’ll try and find it

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 08/04/2020 11:39

It's bullshit. Worrying that you have to ask.

Slightly weird that despite being against scaremongering you then post all that detail on here

Appuskidu · 08/04/2020 11:42

Slightly weird that despite being against scaremongering you then post all that detail on here

Exactly Hmm

Rainbowchampagne · 08/04/2020 11:43

Can’t find the original article but this one includes some amusing parodies

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:44

Oh thanks Rainbow that's reassuring.
Personally I know I am living in own optimistic bubble about this whole situation.
But when receiving this today and automatically dismissing it as I usually do I had a moment where I reflected upon myself whether I am being stupid not trying to atleast find out whether there is some truth in all of those voicenotes/messages going around.

Again apologies to anyone who thinks I am repeating the same action I hate so much. Definitely not my intention.

OP posts:
FiveShelties · 08/04/2020 11:44

@Shehz21 - I think it is rubbish.

CollaborativeBee · 08/04/2020 11:46

Who was the voice note from? -'-What is a voice note-'
Some people are panicking but equally some people get off on insisting everybody else is scaremongering.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 08/04/2020 11:46

So, you're against scaremongering and then start a thread that's scaremongering?

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:46

I have posted in AIBU and am ready for any kind of feedback, positive or negative.

Princess and Apuskidu. I have just posted about why I posted everything here. Hope it clears it up a little. I may have worded my title wrong, again apologies.

@Rainbowchampagne Thank you!

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:48

Thank you @FiveShelties that's reassuring. I'm sorry if it came across as me scaremongering.Smile

OP posts:
Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 08/04/2020 11:48

But what you've done is passed on unverified information and tried to justify it in some way.

Maybe that's what everyone else is doing, except you accuse them of scaremongering.

FiveShelties · 08/04/2020 11:49

Apologies lost half my post!

I would not give it another thought - just take care of yourself.

Shehz21 · 08/04/2020 11:51

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras I have asked opinions on that unverified source of information. And whether I am being unreasonable in dismissing it without giving it a second thought?
I am not justifying anything. Smile

Umnoway · 08/04/2020 11:51

It’s like the 2020 version of MSN chain mail. If you don’t share this you will die at midnight. It was total bollocks then, it’s still total bollocks now. We WILL inevitably hit a peak and yes, 900 in a day sounds about right sadly. A third definitely won’t be children though, that is absolutely ludicrous. You have a 0.03 chance of death in your twenties, children barely ever die from it.

QuaffthisKindNepenthe · 08/04/2020 11:53

OP is clearly not scaremongering, but giving an example of the ridiculous hysterical nonsense being peddled by arseholes.

Pitchforks down.
