Woken up with a horrid sore throat today. No other symptoms. Am completely freaking out that I have it and will die. I'm 31 but my BMI is 27. Sad

I don’t know if it’s corona, but I had a really sore throat and headache for 2 days... then nothing

DH had the same

Could be a different virus, the normal viruses are also still going around. Easy to forget that

Frompcat · 07/04/2020 13:20

Just totally freaking out

OP posts:
jellybean85 · 07/04/2020 13:34

Also I think the risk is higher more if you're morbidly obese. Like a bmi if 40 or over you're barely into the overweight range at 27

Porcupineinwaiting · 07/04/2020 13:56

Maybe save the freaking out for when/if you get more symptoms? Until then, treat the sore throat.

middleager · 07/04/2020 14:05

Your age and BMI do not put you in an at risk category.

ChipotleBlessing · 07/04/2020 14:15

You have no risk factors and do not have the symptoms of coronavirus. It sounds like you might need to take actions to deal with your anxiety?

SoooTiredToday · 07/04/2020 14:29

!! I had a sore throat then developed runny nose, aches and pains, nausea, chills and fever and then a cough. 3 weeks later I still have the cough.

Was it coronavirus? Who knows!

OP, you may have it, you may not. But either way I expect you'll be fine.

mimbleandlittlemy · 07/04/2020 15:08

Highest pollen count on record today so might just be that.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 07/04/2020 15:10

Gargle and self isolate

Marshy86 · 07/04/2020 15:25

Freaking out won't help, it could just be a simple sore throat. Take paracetamol and drink fluids if symptoms increase treat as they progress and follow guidelines.

Frompcat · 07/04/2020 15:30

NHS says to self isolate if cough or temperature

I can't self isolate in my own home as I live in a small flat.

OP posts:
Marshy86 · 07/04/2020 18:51

@Frompcat do you have a cough or Hugh temperature? You said you only have a sore throat earlier. Can you isolate yourself if needed to bedroom ?

GinJeanie · 07/04/2020 18:57

Hope you're doing ok... we had sore throats but other symptoms too e.g. temperature, breathlessness, tight chests and sore eyes. The symptoms really vary person to person...

Start gargling every hour or two with warm salt water. Whether it's Coronavirus or not that will help your throat. And you're not going to die, most people will have mild symptoms so try to get lots of decent sleep, and not to worry too much.

Frompcat · 08/04/2020 07:36

I only have a sore throat. That's still my only symptom. No fever, no cough.

I really can't isolate myself to my bedroom. We only have a tiny flat, one bathroom, and I have a clingy four year old. It just isn't practical for me to isolate myself from them for 14 days.

Crazydiamond106 · 08/04/2020 22:02

I’ve had a sore throat for the past 3 days but feel totally fine otherwise..hopefully it’s nothing or another virus. Then again hopefully it’s a very very mild version and it’s over and done with! Try not to worry too much..I’m paranoid too but your not in a high risk category, I’m also 31

SlightyJaded · 08/04/2020 22:05

I have had a sore throat on and off for about 10 days. Nothing else (yet). Mostly one side of my throat - the left - that hurts to swallow. I have been gargling with warm salt water and that's helped. I understand the panic, but there is nothing about you or you symptoms that would trigger any kind of alarm bells. Try not to worry.

DonnaDarko · 08/04/2020 22:09

The whole household has to self isolate even if only 1 person has symptoms. If it is covid, you've probably already passed it on

SlightyJaded · 08/04/2020 22:18

@DonnaDarko (love your name btw). I don't think sore throat is a symptom that triggers self-isolation. It's one of many that some people HAVE experienced with something that may or may not be COVID but I think the isolating kicks in if you have the cough and/or temp.

Happy to be told I"m wrong.

DonnaDarko · 08/04/2020 22:38

@SlightyJaded sorry,my comment was in reference to the OP saying

I really can't isolate myself to my bedroom. We only have a tiny flat, one bathroom, and I have a clingy four year old. It just isn't practical for me to isolate myself from them for 14 days

I think the government's advice is only in relation to coughs and fevers, but, I believe a sore throat can be a symptom. Also, I don't know about you, but I've never had a sore throat that didn't lead to a cough, unless it was hayfever!

Tigerswife · 08/04/2020 22:45

Might be hay fever, it’s very bad at the moment, try not to worry x

Barryisland · 08/04/2020 22:45

Maybe its just that. A sore throat.

independent98 · 08/04/2020 22:54

Blend garlic in water and boil it. Drink every hour.
Gargle with warm salt water and inhale some up your nose to get to the back of your throat.. should clear within 24 hours

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 08/04/2020 23:05

I had a sore throat for three weeks. I still have it a bit now (week four).

Frompcat · 09/04/2020 10:52

to update, still have a bit of a sore throat but no other symptoms.
