TUI low deposit - August holiday

holidayheadache · 06/04/2020 23:45

Another holiday one - sorry!

I've got a long haul holiday booked for the end of August through TUI. So far I have only paid £250 but as this is part of the low deposit scheme, a second deposit payment is due at the end of the month of an additional £250.

I'm under no illusion that this holiday will go ahead unfortunately. Does anyone know what will happen if I don't pay this? I understand that they can go to small claims court but is this realistic under the circumstance?

It seems ridiculous for us to pay money for something we're highly unlikely to benefit from.

Thanks!

Just looked on the Tui Facebook page.
11.7k comments all saying we want our refund etc! What a nightmare.
I'm not sure how much longer they will be in business unfortunately. 8000 job cuts to come and 740 million loss.
Very sad.

Rollergirl11 · 16/05/2020 16:09

I know @Cuddling57 it’s pretty bad. I do feel them, it must be a nightmare trying to get in contact with everyone that’s been affected. And each day brings more and more unsatisfied customers. But that’s why I’m fairly confident that they won’t seriously chase for non payment of deposits. They have enough on their plates.

It will be very sad if they go under but it’s not the responsibility of the consumer to bail them out. We all have financial woes of our own!

mommydragon · 18/05/2020 09:49

I believe the online option to change booking and pay further is not available to those who have booked in store. I will try and attach a screenshot from App now.

TUI low deposit - August holiday
mommydragon · 18/05/2020 09:52

But since I have this screenshot, I will just stay put and not pay anything more than low deposit. Hopefully sometime in the future, if I haven't heard from them, I can get my initial deposit back in basis of this message. I haven't even received any chaser emails. 🤞🏼

Rollergirl11 · 20/05/2020 11:10

So I’m a week late paying the full balance. I was expecting another email today either chasing or saying my holiday has been cancelled but I’ve had nothing. Holiday is still counting down and it’s 77 days away now. If I haven’t heard anything from them in the next week I think I will cancel myself if it lets me without paying the remaining deposit.

BigBubble · 20/05/2020 11:17

Still awaiting my refund from March. I have had to involve my bank to raise a dispute and see if they can get any money out of Tui. Not holding my breath. Wankers have over £1000 of my money and nothing has been put in my bank.

Racheyg · 21/05/2020 14:09

This thread dropped of my watch list. Glad I found you guys again.

Our holiday is in 60 days. No notification from TUI whether it's going ahead. We are Left in Limbo. I have no idea how they are going to allow us to go to Tenerife.

I just want my money back now. If we move to nxt year it's nearly £2000 more 😭.

If we paid via PayPal credit and credit card can we get a refund from them?

ScorpionQueen · 21/05/2020 15:19

They've just updated again.
My booking was in store and with a third-party airline so I'm just going to wait for them to contact me.

chickedeee · 21/05/2020 15:27

We paid a low deposit and are due to go Mid July to Portugal.

We have heard nothing

The final payment was due at the end of April

We booked in store so cannot amend online

I never seem to get through

No intention of paying any more money because we will not be going and if they go bust even with ATOL protection it will be months/years before we get the money back Sad

SunshineOutdoors · 21/05/2020 17:12

Has anyone received the email saying you can postpone date at no extra charge - there's kind of an apology in it too? I'm going to look into doing this if it means we don't have to pay any more yet

Cuddling57 · 21/05/2020 19:55

I've received the email too Sunshine.
A step in the right direction, although I don't want to book for next year as it's more money anyway!

Jedstre · 21/05/2020 19:58

Yes got the email but I haven’t looked at prices for next year. I can’t even think about it.

Racheyg · 21/05/2020 20:01

We have too. The same holiday is nearly £2000 more. - NO CHANCE. I think we will be staycationing nxt year.

Nearlyadoctor · 21/05/2020 20:30

I’ve received the email as well today but at another £1600 no way.

SunshineOutdoors · 21/05/2020 20:48

I’ve managed to find the same holiday but 100 less next year (might miss last day or two of summer term 2021 depending on what happens when term dates are released but will take the chance) so I’ve rebooked for then. Not sure the hotel or tui will still be around but I guess it buys me a bit of time.

SunshineOutdoors · 21/05/2020 20:50

I played around with dates and found the lowest one at a similar time of year (about 2 weeks earlier than the 2020 one)

Mtbf · 21/05/2020 21:02

Tui have extended their free change to bookings made before 16 March to holidays up to 31 Aug now so anyone who wants to change to next year can do so.

Hmmmmminteresting · 21/05/2020 21:23

I am due to fly with tui in 26 days. I just want a refund. The holiday is all paid but we booked it for us and our friends (so 8 in total as 2 families) and they cannot afford to go, spending money holiday clothes etc as both have big job issues due to covid and a hefty mortgage.
After what I've read today I am really questioning if our holiday mid june is even going to be cancelled or if we will be made to go - thoughts?
I did try and move it to the same week next year but they wanted £600 more per family!
We are going to spain

Rollergirl11 · 21/05/2020 21:42

Yep I’ve had the email too. The same hotel for us next year is 1K more and the family room that I booked this year is no longer an option because (I’m assuming) my daughter is too old next year. Besides, I just don’t want to book a holiday for next year now just so I can buy TUI some time with my money.

Nothing’s changed for me. I’m not paying them anymore money. I’ve got 5 days till it’s 70 days till my holiday. Need to decide if I’m going to cancel myself before the 70 days or still ignore and see what they do.

Jedstre · 21/05/2020 22:25

72 days for us and still undecided what to do

Rollergirl11 · 22/05/2020 07:59

@Jedstre they haven’t contacted you since you haven’t paid the balance then? Other than the “TUI promise” bullshit?

Jedstre · 22/05/2020 09:49

I’ve had reminder emails @Rollergirl11 about paying the balance, usually once a week I think. I need to either press the cancel button this weekend or continue to ignore. I just don’t want to be liable for paying a full balance at some point but I can’t imagine they can hold thousands of us to the 70 day cancellation thing.

Cuddling57 · 22/05/2020 10:37

I'm thinking of sending customer services an email to 'cancel' but asking for my £150 back, or at the very least a credit note for it. Just before the 70 days.
That way I am not cancelling online and resigning myself to losing the money, and opening myself up to being chased for the remaining deposit.
Obv I understand if I do lose the £150 though.

TheRegressive · 22/05/2020 11:07

I wouldnt bother sending them an email, I have used numerous email addresses for them and they all keep coming back undeliverable!

Handbag101 · 22/05/2020 13:20

I'm due to go to Cyprus on 13 June with TUI. At the moment, they say we are going. I hope they cancel. I just want a refund.
