Oh Boris no 🙁

There is no "better" care.

Agree completely. NHS Critical Care is world class.

RedToothBrush · 06/04/2020 21:27

To clarify.

He is NOT on a ventilator

Steven Swinford @Steven_Swinford (Deputy Political Editor at the Times)
Boris Johnson was moved into intensive care at 7pm this evening after his condition worsened over the course of this afternoon

The PM asked Dominic Raab to deputise for him before he moved

He remains conscious but has been removed to intensive care in case he needs a ventilator

Boris Johnson experienced breathing difficulties this afternoon and was given oxygen

When it became clear that he needed to move to intensive care he told an aide that Dominic Raab should deputise for him

He is still conscious

littlemixarerubbish · 06/04/2020 21:28

To anyone who knows, would someone be admitted to ICU because of a risk of needing to be ventilated, rather than because they are now at the point where they definitely do need to be ventilated?

Slazengerbag · 06/04/2020 21:28

Wishing Boris and everyone else with CV all the best. It’s such a worrying time and my thoughts are with his family.

UYScuti · 06/04/2020 21:29

whether we agree with his politics or not he is our Prime Minister at a time of global crisis.
I will be saying a (secular) prayer

Sosadandempty · 06/04/2020 21:30

@littlemixarerubbish yes I think so. Somebody’s wife was interviewed by ITV - her husband was being moved to ICU in case he did need ventilating. I don’t know what happened - she was interviewed on March 24th.

LEELULUMPKIN · 06/04/2020 21:30

Come on Boris, don't let the bugger get you! Thoughts to all those love you.

ifonly4 · 06/04/2020 21:30

Another wishing Boris well. I knew someone personally who was this stage, it wasn't the outcome we all wanted. Having said that, Boris is strong so let's hope his determination gets him through this.

EastCoastDamsel · 06/04/2020 21:30

He will have been admitted to ICU because it is likely that he will need to be ventilated. Might not end up being ventilated bit it is likely.

He is still concious at this time means just that - he is still concious right now but it is (again) likely that he will not be in the future

Bearbehind · 06/04/2020 21:31

Since when has Steven Swinford spoken on behalf of the government?

Journalist don’t know anything for sure right now

Everyone just needs to keep calm and wait for official news, not speculation.

MiddlesexGirl · 06/04/2020 21:31

He’s certainly not in a good place to fight the virus given the stress he’s been under and bonkers hours he’s been working. This does not bode well.

This. He's been under extreme stress for many many months now. The hours he must have worked getting the Brexit deal through and now this pandemic.
He must have been running on empty and yet it never showed until now.
Like him or not, the country will be very much the poorer if he's not able to lead us for the foreseeable future.
I wish him the speediest of recoveries.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/04/2020 21:32

No one is moved to intensive care " just in case" I should imagine he's on CPAP which pushes air into the lungs If his oxygen levels are not stabilising he will be intubated to stop his organs failing
Hoping he makes a good recovery
It makes the situation terribly real
Get well Boris

Peppafrig · 06/04/2020 21:32

Feel sick right now . So terribly sad and hoping he will be on the mend soon .

whattodo2019 · 06/04/2020 21:33

Come On Boris. We need you and so does your lovely fiancé and unborn baby.
My prayers are you xx

PicsInRed · 06/04/2020 21:34

Hear hear!

To anyone who knows, would someone be admitted to ICU because of a risk of needing to be ventilated, rather than because they are now at the point where they definitely do need to be ventilated?

In normal circumstances ICU is 1-1 nursing care, with HDU being 2-1, so it’s the patients that need most attention, rather than definitely in need of mechanical support. In this crisis situation, different standards may apply.

A decision to move to ICU is taken carefully by specialist professionals (intensivists) so even the PM is likely to be proper poorly to qualify,

EightNineTen · 06/04/2020 21:35

He is still concious at this time means just that - he is still concious right now but it is (again) likely that he will not be in the future

That was worrying. They seem to have gone from their previous obfuscation to preparing us for the worst.

WouldShouldCould · 06/04/2020 21:35

I have missed Boris this week, and I really hope he gets better.

PipGirl404 · 06/04/2020 21:35

Not sure how on Earth what I said has caused offence.

I meant that because he's the prime minister he'll have access to more and he will be in a room on his own that is constantly guarded and protected. He will be less stressed than most people in ICU as he'll have a team of people to support and rally around him (which isn't a bad thing?) and he'll be in a better situation than most to recuperate, considering he's in an exceptional care environment as well - THAT was my point. Christ.

Littlepeak34 · 06/04/2020 21:36

Why do people feel the need to mention they don’t like him? How is that relevant to the fact he’s in intensive care.

“I don’t like him but I don’t want him to die”

Erm ok.

Mlou32 · 06/04/2020 21:36

'However, he is a very fortunate man to be in this position; he's not like a poster on another thread who is trying to keep a care home running with serious staff shortages"

Yeah, he's just a man trying to keep a country running with serious nurse/doctor/financial shortages. Regardless of which political party some excuse of a person may come along and try and blame that on, he fact remains the same. He will have been under absolute unimaginable strain and pressure the past few days, immense scrutiny and has been putting in relentless hours. All while trying to manage the situation and the country. And deal with coronavirus. So I think he understands the position of the other poster only too well.

user1493400455 · 06/04/2020 21:37

Why do people have to write, ‘I don’t like him’ but I wish him well or ‘I can’t stand the man’ but I wish him well. He’s the man that has told you to stay at home and be safe, how lucky are you. Look where he is.
I hope he pulls through, his poor family. Thinking of everyone suffering with this at the moment and wishing them well

Eggcited · 06/04/2020 21:38

he will be in a room on his own that is constantly guarded and protected

I can't speak from experience. But given the fact they're not allowing relatives into ICU, it's unlikely he will have much in the way of protection?

WomanIsTaken · 06/04/2020 21:38

Wishing you a swift recovery, Boris. Surrounding you in a healing, golden light and looking forward to seeing you well and glowing once you're better!

Utterlybutterly8 · 06/04/2020 21:38

This has shocked me to the core. Poor Boris - I very much hope he gets better soon.
