The death rate is definitely reducing - could this be a good sign that things will get back to normal sooner rather than later?

EmMac7 · 06/04/2020 18:47

Maybe.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/04/2020 18:48

Duh, I hadn't refreshed the browser window I had that open in.

Quarantino · 06/04/2020 18:49

I don't think there's anywhere accurately reporting number of deaths from COVID on the day they occurred.

Tuesday is when a backdated subset of statistics is provided.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/30/covid-19-deaths-outside-hospitals-to-be-included-in-uk-tally-for-first-time

Much as I'd love to keep track of actual COVID deaths using Worldometer etc that's not what is being reported.

Appuskidu · 06/04/2020 18:49

Are they only reporting hospitals deaths? Does that mean if someone dies in the community, they aren’t even tested or they are tested but it’s not reported?

Appuskidu · 06/04/2020 18:50

@Quarantino aha-interesting!

YgritteSnow · 06/04/2020 18:52

If you're going to only half follow the news dont ask stupid bloody questions on here.

How shockingly rude people feel they can be at the moment. Embarrassing.

CokeEnStock · 06/04/2020 18:52

No. The reporting is not accurate. In Belgium the death rate is still increasing but the number of people being admitted to hospital is starting to drop. People dying now were infected weeks ago. So the peak is just approaching. You are about 2 weeks behind.

Bathroom12345 · 06/04/2020 18:53

So these CV deaths. Are the actually deaths due TOTALLY to CV or do we not know?

A 103 year old man died at the weekend. Are we saying it was totally due to catching cv?

Quarantino · 06/04/2020 18:54

Bathroom which figures are you referrign to?

Longwhiskers14 · 06/04/2020 18:57

Agree MorrisZapp. Three weeks ago the schools were only just closing, people were only starting to work from home and still cramming on public transport and supermarkets were bun fights that required elbow pads. It was a different world!

GreyGardens88 · 06/04/2020 18:59

Monday figures are always lower, plus one or two day dips don't really mean anything. I'm expecting daily deaths over 1000 by end of this week. I would be delighted if they carry on dropping though

MummyPop00 · 06/04/2020 19:00

29 days average time from infection/incubation/onset of symptoms to death the last time I read.

We haven’t been in lockdown for 29 days yet, only 14. So no, in terms of deaths we aren’t at the peak.

It’s about two weeks away I reckon.

mochajoes · 06/04/2020 19:00

a relative if mine died in a care home, they were tested

Autumnwindinthewillows · 06/04/2020 19:02

Thank you for the graph link. Sadly I can see they dipped the last two weekends so fear my optimism is a little premature

OP posts:
Bathroom12345 · 06/04/2020 19:03

The daily deaths

Chloemol · 06/04/2020 19:04

No

Stellamboscha · 06/04/2020 19:07

You should know better than to post good news or optimistic questions on here. Only doom, doom, death and more doom is allowed 🙁

Tonyaster · 06/04/2020 19:07

If you're going to only half follow the news dont ask stupid bloody questions on here

There's only one stupid bloody person on here and that's this poster, who thinks it's fine to be jarringly rude.

Tonyaster · 06/04/2020 19:09

Yes, I'm sure quite a few people might have stopped crying, got out of bed and inadvertently looked at someone, therefore immediately infecting them. So obviously those infections haven't led to certain death yet.

RedToothBrush · 06/04/2020 19:11

No it hasn't...

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 06/04/2020 19:12

@MorrisZapp don’t forget Mothers Day and those who ignored the warnings.

Bathroom12345 · 06/04/2020 19:13

Would these people have died anyway regardless of CV? A person of 100 plus is on borrowed time.

How many people extra are dying everyday in addition to the ones that would die anyway and can CV be blamed for these deaths? Is the CV a combination of other issues that would for example kill a 103 year old man?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/04/2020 19:13

Sorry but no. There is usually a drop in death rate at the weekend and on Mondays (but don't ask me why).

Look at BBC news and track the trend, not individual day numbers.

Peak is not expected for another 10 days at least.

The rate of infection has dipped slightly, but it takes 2 weeks from infection to full-blown virus. So hospital admissions and death rate will continue to increase.

Please stay at home and stop this spreading.

Gizmo79 · 06/04/2020 19:14

The number of people on life support had increased drastically. Which will then show in the near future as death rates.
Oh, and I am in the NHS before anyone starts me mis-claiming.
It is horrendous, do not start thinking anything else.

Devlesko · 06/04/2020 19:15

Italy had a dip and WHO said it was a change in reporting, then it just got higher until it peaked.
I don't think we'll be anywhere near peak for a while yet.
Plus, they aren't testing the same as other countries, and only counting deaths from hospital cases, not those dying at home.
The extra hospitals and morgues aren't for show, unfortunately.
