Is this ok for me to do?

My parents live 30 minutes away, they’ve not needed any shopping yet but are obviously now running low. DH will do a big shop for them tomorrow before work then I’ll drive to their house and leave it in their porch.

I’ll have to take DS with me. There’s a big green opposite their house. If I take our dog too can I walk him on the green on lead before we drive home?

Yes, that's your daily exercise and is allowed. Keep 2m away from others, and keep dog and kid under control x

Why would you? Just walk the dog where you normally do.

cant they do their own shopping? get it delivered if vulnerable? or failing that, your husband drop it off.....no need for so many people involved!

You make it sound so easy to get a delivery slot! Maybe her dh cant take it as he's at work.

They can’t do their own shopping as their in the vulnerable group,

They can’t get a delivery slot,

DH is doing our shopping anyway so it’s not an additional trip for him. He hasn’t got time to do the 1hr round trip as he’s still working.

We don’t have any green space close to our home so I thought the dog would enjoy the grass.

Its driving to her parents to drop shopping off and then it's combined with exercise. I'd do it

Driving somewhere for your exercise isn't...

You’re allowed to take shopping to vulnerable people. What on earth is the problem with also exercising while you’re there?

Look if the green is empty then yes I would. You have to drive there anyway so its not any additonal risk from petrkl stationd

If the green isnt empty, or more thqn 1 or 2 people then i probably wouldnt

You're allowed to go out to provide help for vulnerable people.
Taking your dog for walking is combining 2 trips into one and minimising outdoor time so I think it should be OK

You're not allowed to drive somewhere to exercise, but that's not what you're doing. You're driving to help an elderly relative. I think this is fine.

If I were their neighbours and I saw you walking the dog on the green I would feel it unfair, especially if my own family were not able to visit me.

It’s absolutely fine. You’re in the area anyway for an essential trip, and you’re allowed to exercise.

Because they have said it is not okay to drive somewhere to exercise and you need to stay close to home. People completely ignoring this and searching for loopholes in the lockdown will be the reason that they will move to no exercise at all. It doesn’t matter that you are making a delivery, if you are sticking the dog in the car you are not following the advice to exercise close to home.

She's not driving to exercise though, she's driving to deliver food thrn exercising whilst there. Yes it's fine.

@Distressingtimes but she isn't driving there to exercise - that is not the purpose of her drive. And in addition dog walking is not included in exercise, it additional. The purpose of her drive is to assist her vulnerable parents if she walks her dog at the same time then that's fine

The rule is an attempt to stop idiots swarming en masse to national parks and the like, not to imprison people entirely
The fact that the OP is asking the question means she's pretty sensible.

It's fine. Since you have to drive there anyway, I think it is better to walk dog on a large open green than potentially walk it along narrow pavements nearer home where distancing is harder.

The rules have to be the same for everyone - we could all find loopholes otherwise... "I'm just doing X so I'll do Y as well while I'm here..."
