"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

If you understand this why are you still banging on about how we are only doing this for the elderly?!

...because if we just let the virus spread unchecked many more (mostly elderly) people would die.

The idea of slowing the spread is to give elderly people a few more years of life.

In general, the young will only experience mild symptoms and are very unlikely to die of it.

TestBank · 05/04/2020 14:47

The risk does increase with age and poor health. Boris doesn't seem in too great shape with it. Average age of senior decision makers might have played a role in their response?

Handy graphic showing age and deaths ...

Helen what resources have you been given? Anything at all?

justasking111 · 05/04/2020 14:49

621 dead today, that is half of our local theatre seating gone.

wowfudge · 05/04/2020 14:50

TestBank smallpox was eradicated by vaccinating against it. Covid 19 is virulent and all we are doing is slowing its spread. There is no vaccine and the majority of us are probably going to get it.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 05/04/2020 14:54

Yes, dogs way more important than peoples' lives Hmm.

TestBank · 05/04/2020 14:55

Yes, for clarity I was not actually thinking that a three week lockdown would get rid of a worldwide virus although many do, it seems.
Oh to live in their simple world. It must be truly baffling why lockdown isn't working.

Tigger001 · 05/04/2020 14:55

It is a shame that the few will spoil it for the masses. I'm not surprised at all though as there are some people thay simply are not talking it seriously. I do agree though if some people are still not listening.

I feel sorry for the ones with no outdoor space on thier property, so not only have the people who ignored the advice added to thier misery but also raised the risk of the spread of this virus. Shameful in my opinion

justasking111 · 05/04/2020 14:55

Well some dogs are smarter than people so perhaps it is better they survive.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 14:55

You could say the everyone is helping out the middle.

It most likely won’t be the eldest who get ventilators but the extra capacity will go to the young. I do believe it when you hear ICU is full off a diverse age range. There will be enough of this lower risk group who need help.

Sadly it won’t be for elderly in care homes and in frail conditions.

hoodathunkit · 05/04/2020 14:55

there are cardio vascular exercises you can do at home.

Of course there are and over the years I have used them when I can't go out because it's raining torrentially or when the rivers are frozen.

However exercising at home is not the same as the river / sea / gym and my health deteriorates rapidly whenever I cannot exercise properly outside of my tiny flat.

Over the last 15 years I have trained hard and developed a method of exercise that works for me. It has kept me out of a wheelchair and helped me to stop taking opiod pain killers from my GP.

Obviously I will continue to try to adapt my exercise, however I will be mightily pissed off if I cannot exercise properly and fall into ill heath because of selfish people fannying around in parks.

Blakes77 · 05/04/2020 14:57

No, there were 72 additional deaths in this year's week 12 over and above the average of the last 5 year's week 12 stats.

Yeah, sorry, shit maths!

Anyway, the difference so far is small either way BUT obviously things have ramped up the last couple of weeks.

TestBank · 05/04/2020 14:58

What's very useful is that the death rate pretty much mirrors your risk of dying in general in a year. So if you spend a lot of time worrying you might die this year, you would logically apply about the same amount of worry to the thought of dying of covid. If you don't spend much time worrying you will die this year, why so much worry over this?

Barbie222 · 05/04/2020 14:59

I think exercise might be limited to the mile or so around your house like France before it's no going out at all.

PomBearsyummy · 05/04/2020 15:00

absolute bullshit if people with dogs can go out but the rest of us are stuck indoors.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:01

TestBank I’m not convinced in the dying in same year thing. I hear it a lot but there are many deaths we’ve heard about that don’t follow. Not just media but on here. I’d need more information to take that as read.

Helenshielding · 05/04/2020 15:02

@LilacTree1 I've been offered a box which I have declined as I've moved in with my parents. I managed to get a delivery slot with tesco which seems to be more to do with timing than anything else as sainsburys doenst have the scottish list yet.

I cant even get my doctors surgery to put a sodding stamp on a letter so I can get my prescriptions!

MrsSnitchnose · 05/04/2020 15:04

Looks like the old 'Divide and Conquer' strategy is working nicely. Lets all turn on each other. Divided people are easier to control. Wake up and see what is happening. Can't believe there are so many people begging for all their freedoms to be taken away. Society is fucked

MH1111 · 05/04/2020 15:04

Further restrictions would criminalise me as I would continue to exercise

Barbie222 · 05/04/2020 15:05

will be mightily pissed off if I cannot exercise properly and fall into ill heath because of selfish people fannying around in parks.

What constitutes selfish fannying around though? If someone is in a park, they are adding the same amount of risk whether they are sitting down relaxing or strenuously exercising. We can't start saying that only the hardened exercisers NEED to be there. I'm not defending them, but the photos of people from Primrose Hill yesterday looked like family groups sitting apart from others. They were all trying to do the right thing, there were just too many of them. The only thing we can then do is say, everyone stay away no matter what. And that means all stay in.

NewDOOFUSfor20 · 05/04/2020 15:05

If anyone is in doubt that people are doing as they please this weekend then please look at the Ann's Cottage webcams and see just how many surfers there currently are (it's in real time). The British surfing body have stated that surfing is not allowed under current exercise rules and have almost begged people not to go to the beaches as it is not essential. One of the surfers has been quoted as saying "how is it not essential? It's essential to me that I surf, its my way of exercising".
Says it all really.

Blakes77 · 05/04/2020 15:07

I would too. At least in prison they let you out once a day for excercise. Grin

vanillandhoney · 05/04/2020 15:08

I'm not defending them, but the photos of people from Primrose Hill yesterday looked like family groups sitting apart from others.

Going to sit in a park is not a necessary reason to leave the house. Why is that so hard for people to comprehend?!

PomBearsyummy · 05/04/2020 15:08

@MH1111

Damn right and if I need to take one of hubbys dog slippers with me then fine. Its 2020 so it identifies as a real dog afterall.

Blakes77 · 05/04/2020 15:09

Why would surfing alone spread the virus?
