"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

OP posts:

I'm sorry- I just don't believe it is right to imprison the entire population for months in order to extend the lives of people who will in all likelihood die of another cause in the next year anyway.

For the last fucking time, that's not what we are doing.

TestBank · 05/04/2020 13:19

It ends it sooner because the virus dies out GrinGrinGrin we only need to do three weeks in a dark room, yeah, and then it disappears in a puff of smoke. I suggest a worldwide three week lockdown, we could start tomorrow ..give people time to get a bit of shopping in
Oh god I can't even keep a straight face typing that

SansaSnark · 05/04/2020 13:19

To be clear, following the rules doesn't mean this all finishes sooner.

I know Matt Hancock is saying that but he's wrong.

It will save lives- possibly your own. It will stop the NHS getting overwhelmed.

But if we successfully flatten the curve, we will still need to keep this going for a long time- unless we can get a proper testing program set up, and that will happen when it happens, regardless of the rules we do or don't follow.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 05/04/2020 13:20

What is this sunny weather of which you speak? I haven't seen any.

TestBank · 05/04/2020 13:20

Don't upset the posters by telling them in doesn't all go away if we are good little girls and boys

LesLavandes · 05/04/2020 13:20

How do you know Matt Hancock is wrong?

LesLavandes · 05/04/2020 13:21

Mn at its best

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 13:22

Agree on people thinking it will all go away. On a what will you do after lock down thread loads are going to go mad anyway (fine got to get it sometime) but a fair few will visit their parents.

Easilyanxious · 05/04/2020 13:22

Of course they will have to enforce stricter lockdown if people continue to flout the rules , other countries have much stricter lockdown. If people just behave responsibly and stopped trying to justify there extra trip out or why they must drive somewhere or why there family members have just popped round that aren't for the reasons we are allowed . We could all continue to enjoy the little bit of freedom we get

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 13:22

@Helenshielding

Its exactly what we're doing.

...and it's very wrong.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/04/2020 13:23

"Mumsnet is crawling with agents and Freemasons. " 🤦🏻‍♀️

mindproject wtf do you keep posting your paranoid fantasies about Freemasons ?

What next - "the Jewish elite" ?

And the conspiracy theories you keep trying to stir up about 5g & coronavirus

This crisis is bad enough without conspiracy theorists trying to stir up anxiety

or whipping up fear of certain groups in society

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 13:23

How do you know Matt Hancock is wrong?

His lips are moving.

Racheyg · 05/04/2020 13:23

I must admit, I am going out once a day for exercise, I either do a 10k run or a cycle ride. I'm used to exercising 6 times a week. This is worrying!!

dustyplat · 05/04/2020 13:23

Perhaps this is a reflection of how little most of us believe anything the government and local government says or does. Can we have more focus of their time instead on achieving proper practical assistance for health workers across the NHS and care sector - after all they are the ones who will nurse the most seriously ill through this so from an entirely selfish point of view we need them to stay fit and healthy.

Lets get a group voice together to shame the gvt into ensuring all the NHS and care sector workers get what they need PPE wise now and stop the 'aren't we doing well on your behalf' blurb and do real emergency planning work.

Helenshielding · 05/04/2020 13:24

I agree, we should have more tailored regional responses. How easy this is with zero testing though I don’t know

How would you police or even begin to enforce this?! Plus people would just start going to the areas with less enforcement.

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 13:24

Thank XXXX you don't run the country!
Spoof GPS or leave the 'phone at home? what then Stalin?

If you're out, and you're checked, you have to have your mobile on you. If you don't have one, you should be issued with a device.

Not dissimilar to having to carry a paper to say where you're out, but an effective way of tracking people's movements.

Civil liberties are smashing, but these are exceptional times. Why would you object unless you were doing something wrong?

I'm pretty sure other countries are implementing this.

echt · 05/04/2020 13:26

Civil liberties are smashing, but these are exceptional times. Why would you object unless you were doing something wrong

Bizarre reasoning.

Helenshielding · 05/04/2020 13:26

DCOkeford

Are you kidding? The 36 year olds, the 39 year olds were not "going to die next year anywY". Neither are 20 year olds with asthma or even 70 year olds necessarily.

This lockdown is to protect people like you who need the nhs so it isnt overwhelmed.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/04/2020 13:27

Everywhere that has banned exercise has only allowed dog out for loo trips,
i.e. within about 10 yards of their home

Same as horse-owners and farmers are also allowed to give basic minimum care to their animals

So it won't be kids or anyone else being allowed less exercise than animals

Wheresthebeach · 05/04/2020 13:27

I don’t understand why they are dispersing rather than issuing loads of fines. They need to implement what they’ve put in place.

But yes, sadly because people are idiots I think curfew and no outside exercise is on it’s way.

justasking111 · 05/04/2020 13:29

I must admit, I am going out once a day for exercise, I either do a 10k run or a cycle ride. I'm used to exercising 6 times a week. This is worrying!

Why are you worried if you cannot do this, will you die??

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 05/04/2020 13:29

Shoot the dogs. They did in 1939.

Nearlyadoctor · 05/04/2020 13:29

I can’t say I’m surprised - we live in a Close and none of the older people 75+ are taking it seriously. One lady who is early 80’s has a ‘man friend’ who lives 10 miles away, always stays Sunday s and Wednesday still happening. Another has had friends over - all off out in the car together. Bloody ridiculous

Blibbyblobby · 05/04/2020 13:31

It will be very very difficult for people in cities, apartments etc if it does happen.

It will be unworkable in the poor areas of London. People don’t even live in flats with space, they live in one room of an HMO, maybe sharing it. Families of 5 or more in one/two beds. It’s really common to see kids bedrooms with a bed and a bunk bed, all used.

Then lots of people aren’t plugged into native Anglophone culture. I don’t know to what level the messages penetrate the different cultural communities but you can’t assume everyone is getting the same message with the same emphasis.

Splodgetastic · 05/04/2020 13:31

As to posting troops to guard parks, (1) I didn’t vote for martial law and (2) the armed forces are suffering from austerity cuts just as much as the NHS and police, and there aren’t enough reservists. Banning exercise is stupid. I stayed in for a week with doing no walk and my peak flow dropped by 50. Suffice to say, I started doing it again.
