Interesting advice from a doc and nurse at Queens - how to protect your lungs from further infection if you have CV.

I’m not a medics but my brother is a nurse and he says that it fits with ITU protocol re treatment of patients with pneumonia:

Thanks

panicstationsready · 05/04/2020 12:35

Is this available with subtitles or could someone please post what he is saying? Thanks!

SmileEachDay · 05/04/2020 12:37

If you click the settings icon on the video and select “captions on” you get the subtitles.

Auto generated though which aren’t always perfect!

Thanks Star

I've been on a ventilator and this was very similar to what I had to do after they'd extubated me. The physio said it was incredibly important despite the fact I felt so poorly.

Great link. Thank you, and shared.

UYScuti · 05/04/2020 13:00

Thank you this is very important advice I'm going to tell everyone that I know

Nsws2015 · 05/04/2020 13:08

I cant do the lie on my front part as I'm 36 weeks pregnant! But I'm also asthmatic so will try it lay on my side, does anyone know if that will help?

WhataMissMap · 05/04/2020 13:14

Thank you for sharing.
I have sent it to those of my family who have asthma.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 05/04/2020 13:15

Nsws2015 I used to use an inflated rubber ring thing so I could lie downward facing when pregnant (like the ones kids play on in a swimming pool) a friend managed similar with rolled towels (my bumps are far to big for that but she had a very neat bump!)

I understand the recovery position is a reasonable compromise. Flopping forwards over a beanbag would probably be good too. Just need to keep the lungs uppermost.

FuckThisWind · 05/04/2020 13:32

I've just practiced this. Seems good advice and especially as I'm a rather worried asthmatic. Definitely worth sharing.

TheCanterburyWhales · 05/04/2020 13:35

Thank you. It's quite similar to the breathing exercises you see for Costochondritis, I follow an American physio called Dr Jo for that and she emphasises that opening the chest and lungs is so important.
Going to send the link to my friend who has Covid. Flowers

Nsws2015 · 05/04/2020 13:46

Thanks all....I'm in a period of uncertainty, had chills last fri and was told no need for concern, shortness of breath sat night and a pain in my chest (I think I was anxious and it was muscular as I tend to slouch terribly when sat!) But 111 said they had to sat potential covid. Was sent to a+e by pau Sunday because of slight swelling in my hands and a headache, had all the pod obs and then was put in a room alone.

Lovely dr did a full mot bloods etc, my heart trace was up but they thought it was probably more to do with being pregnant and scared on my own, it wasnt up enough to give them major concern. My bloods came back clear, urine test and chest xray clear too, dr actually came back to me minus ppe and stood in doorway saying he was more concerned that I had a blood clot so was sending me home with blood thinner injections and I would get a call for a scan.

Had call for scan next day and was told I could keep my antenatal appointment with my consultant to get my c section papers signed etc, even when I told them I had been told they thought I could potentially have it they said from notes on system they didnt think I did and i was fine to go in. Scan was clear, I told them at antenatal I had a slight cough which I was treating with my inhalers when they asked if I had any symptoms and they were fine.

I'm just a little concerned now because I have a slight sore throat and my temp has gone up to 37.4 at most, which I know isnt a fever but I worry. My cough has got better with the increased inhalers, I've barely touched my reliever last couple days. I havent been sleeping well, not slept properly in over a week now. I generally end up with a sore throat when I've not slept and get run down, usually it turns into tonsillitis! I just feel a bit warm/sweaty (lovely!!), but I'm cool to touch. I'm keeping away from my kids, trying to isolate in my bedroom as much as I can. I havent had much of an appetite the last few days but that seems to be picking up....I'm obsessed with cream crackers and butter and have had some mashed potato for lunch. I know I'm not drinking enough either, I'm trying to get a 500ml bottle down me every couple hours atm. I'm sorry for rambling, I'm just a pregnant worried mess!!!

YgritteSnow · 05/04/2020 13:50

Thank you so much for this. I'm asthmatic and it is very reassuring. Will share everywhere.
