To order a takeaway during a pandemic

Anyone else doing it? Obviously its still an option for us but is it the most sensible thing to do? Me and my oh finally caved and ordered a pizza from a fresh place I walked past as I saw they were making the food from a pop up tent and it looked pretty hygienic, however when the lady came to deliver it she didnt leave it at the door like we hoped and my oh had to go collect it straight from her hands! How safe is it, are you guys risking it for a quick meal in ?

Someone posted a good article (sorry can't find link) on here that the risk is minimal. I would've asked her to leave it on the step personally. But yes we've had takeaway.

chickedeee · 04/04/2020 19:34

We had a domino's on Tuesday

The guy knocked on our door (we have a porch).

All ok Wink

Might help

NemophilistRebel · 04/04/2020 19:35

We had dominos

It was epic

Drogonssmile · 04/04/2020 19:37

We've done it every weekend, so more so than usual! Thai tonight 😋

DartmoorChef · 04/04/2020 19:41

We've got a curry about to arrive. Can't wait. 😁

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 04/04/2020 19:44

I'm eating mine right now. Waited an hour and a half for it so they must be busy. Usually no longer than 40 mins.

bluebell94 · 04/04/2020 19:48

I've had a pizza and a Chinese in the past 2 weeks, both drivers left them on our doorstep then stood back Smile

Smilebehappy123 · 04/04/2020 19:50

We have a takeaway a week since lockdown , I know it might sound sad but it's something to look forward to, we had curry last night was delicious
I have done some reading up on this and whilst we are happy to have takeaway we have limited it to foods where the food wont be handled, by that I mean a hot currys wont have people putting fingers in it , I wouldn't eat something like a kebab at moment because I know some places they handle the nann bread with hands and at this current time dont want the risk

mynamesmrdiggety · 04/04/2020 19:51

I think it's fine but please tip the delivery driver generously

Applejaxx · 04/04/2020 19:52

I had a Domino's last week and the guy handed it over to me on a block to avoid contact.

secretllama · 04/04/2020 19:53

We just had a chippy. It's our weekly treat to make saturday seem special during lockdown Smile

PussyWillowPeach · 04/04/2020 19:53

We both used to eat takeaways frequently 1-2 per week. Since all of this started we’ve not had any as been trying to be super careful. It’s done us good though as we’ve been eating healthier - we are both overweight and have lost 18lb this far between us Grin we’ll definitely get a dominos after all this is over though!

Pipandmum · 04/04/2020 19:54

Why didn't he just tell her to put it down?
But yes order takeaway. It keeps the business in, well, business.

NemophilistRebel · 04/04/2020 19:54

@mynamesmrdiggety hard to tip without using cash and therefore adding to potential spread

I think you can only tip if ordering through Uber eats

Onceateacher · 04/04/2020 19:57

I wonder - could you give the tip in an envelope and then the envelope would only be (potentially) contaminated for a day, and they could wait longer before touching the money?

Callo · 04/04/2020 20:08

Had a Chinese about 3 weekends ago and plan to get a takeaway for Easter weekend. I order through Just Eat so you pay online. They can knock on the door and leave it in the porch.

MelbaToast · 04/04/2020 20:11

The risk is minimal if it comes from a kitchen that has a good hygiene rating. I noticed my delivery driver had disposable latex gloves last week and with contact free delivery I don't see how it could be transferred.

Dee96 · 04/04/2020 20:16

I'd love to tip but it's hard when it doesnt offer the option and I only have cash. Websites should be offering a tip option or something because honestly these takeaways are the only little joy thats keeping me sane right now

I'm having a Shish (sp?) kebab tonight.

Yum.

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 20:19

We have a pizza delivered every Monday to ease us into the week.
Am in Italy.

ListeningQuietly · 04/04/2020 20:23

I ordered from my fave takeaway tonight
no cash no tips
but they get my repeat custom again and again
and will do after this is over

Onceateacher · 04/04/2020 20:25

When I've seen threads on here before about whether to tip for take away delivery (pre corona) I've heard posters say the tips are all that make it financially worth while for the drivers. I hope that is it true since it doesn't seem safe to tip now

mynamesmrdiggety · 04/04/2020 20:30

Oh yes sorry I meant if on Deliveroo or Uber eats. These guys are having a shit time.

mynamesmrdiggety · 04/04/2020 20:32

I've always given a £2 tip but if it ordered joe I think I'd give a fiver. But we haven't ordered anything as being careful. Those poor people trying to make a living delivering in the midst of this with so many places closed.
