People demanding a full lock down

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

I’m being forced to go out more than needed so he has a drink as he doesn’t like water

This is preference not a need.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 05/04/2020 20:31

MonkeyToes kids do go out every day in the Winter...to school

Well spotted.
So.. average kids of the UK.
School 9-3.30, hour play time outside.
Not much different than staying home and having an hour outside daily.
Sure the parents can fill the time they'd normally be sat in the class room anyway with educational activities. 👍👍👍

Tubs11 · 05/04/2020 20:34

full lock downs haven't worked elsewhere so what makes people so sure that it would work here? Just because you force people to stay at home doesn't mean they will. I overheard people today saying, if they do that they'll just have house parties round theres instead. OP is right, its important for people to get out for their mental health and sanity. Friends in Spain are feeling so low and even lower now since they extended lockdown for another two weeks. Think of the long term impact on the mental health of these individuals. Its beggars belief that Hancock is threatening to do this but is doing bugger all to increase tube service to prevent overcrowding during rush hour in London.

I’d say a two year old having daily calcium in his diet is a need and not a preference

Miljea · 05/04/2020 20:37

God, people are loving this forced Hair Shirt, aren't they?

I used to wonder about the mindset of 'committed' Brexiters with their 'A bit of austerity never hurt no one, like it was in 1943' (misty eyes- though None were born for another 30 years) brigade. They're now all over this.

Lead your quiet lives of chosen privation elsewhere.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/04/2020 20:38

is it worth the risk of going to the corner shop when you run out the day before the big shop is due?

Personally I'd do the big shop a day early in that case. Is that allowed?

(I do realise that not everyone can do that for financial reasons)

Gin96 · 05/04/2020 20:39

This is when society starts to break down, someone yelling out the car at a poor family just going for a walk round the block, people yelling at each other for being 1.5 metres close instead of 2 meters, everyone blaming everyone else for the situation, this is far more frightening than the virus.

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 05/04/2020 20:39

I wish I could fill my 6 year ild’s days with education and fun, but I’m still trying to work remotely and am full time so no chance! She is very active, sad and lonely at not being around other children or family, and our daily trips to the park are keeping us both sane, especially as we live in a flat with no garden. I am grocery shopping every few days for fresh foods like fruit and vegetables as no delivery slots, and have to take her with me as it’s just us, but that’s not enough, she needs time to run and play as well. A total lockdown for those with big houses, Gardens, siblings etc. wouldn’t be so bad, but for those of us without those things it would be awful!

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 05/04/2020 20:44

A few people here have made really good points too about the need to shop every few days when one can’t carry a lot and doesn’t have a car - best to avoid buses etc. now after all, if one doesn’t have much freezer space, can’t afford a shed load of groceries at once. Very important things to remember!

fordk · 05/04/2020 20:44

we shoud have a compleate lockdown and the police should inforce it you should only be out for food shopping to go to the chemist or going to work if could you should be fined

doghairismyglitter · 05/04/2020 20:48

There aren’t enough police to fully enforce it

VK456 · 05/04/2020 20:49

Tomorrow I’m having to go into town for the third time in five days because the pharmacy have messed up my prescription. If it’s not there tomorrow - the text says it’s ready, just like it has said before - I don’t know what I’ll do. It would help if they’d answer their phone.

Blue92x · 05/04/2020 21:02

Wow... some of this comments are well... ridiculous. People who want a full lockdown clearly don’t have children... like OP said it’s the arogant twats that need locking down. Bread and milk is an essential whether it can be frozen or not. You can only buy so many in one go so how do people expect that to last?

I for one suffer mental health issues and I can honestly say this whole fucking charade is massively impacting me and my family. We don’t walk every single day but having that option is a massive relief when we need to get out the house. I am however lucky enough to have a garden it’s not a big one but a garden nonetheless I feel for people in flats as I used to live in one with no garden sometimes a walk is their only chance at fresh air.

Some of you need to be ashamed of yourselves. We’re supposed to be helping each other out not shaming and pointing fingers! The attitude from people is horrendous!

As long as you do your bit and you stick to the rules don’t worry that margret has been out to get her “essentials” whether you deem them essentials or not. Something essential to you might not be essential for someone else.

Stop the world I want to get off.

GooodMythicalMorning · 05/04/2020 21:02

@PinkSparklyPussyCat I've already upped mine for this very reason. I have hayfever badly but don't want to be sneezing especially at this moment.

WhataMissMap · 05/04/2020 21:04

My friends in France tell me that the lock down is very effective there.

Echo08 · 05/04/2020 21:09

I am on the fence .I an a key worker , work in a rural community as a community carer. I have some really scared elderly people at the moment and it is heartbreaking. I have seen an increase on the roads this weekend .We have had people driving with canoes etc to the nature reserve by us .Seeing pictures and have been reliably told that in London today one of the parks was closed because idiots flocking too it .I want to stay safe going to work. I want to keep my family and friends safe along with the people i care for .It is a not a paid jolly at home it is to keep people safe .Wtf can't people not flock in groups to the parks or descend on our countryside .If a lock down stopped this and got rid the virus then yeap i for it .

BeetrootRocks · 05/04/2020 21:15

BBC today said Brighton beach nearly empty etc

Friend who lives there said pics in mail a few days ago was taken with long lens and angled to make people look close when they weren't

The press stirring worry and antagonism up at a time like this is rubbish tbh

Waitaway1970 · 05/04/2020 21:36

My DC have not stepped out of the house in 35 days, I kid you not. These are tough times but agree with OP not all of us are breaking the rules and being selfish! This weekend we’ve seen photos of people having BBQ’s on beaches, tanning in parks. Selfish gits who are putting everyone else at risk!

Hanywany · 05/04/2020 21:46

doghairismyglitter so when you give birth to your babies and the midwifes say oh the baby is a little bit jaundiced what we'll do is put the baby in the window to get some sun/daylight and then when you leave hospital your told to do the same, your saying the midwifes are wrong they know nothing!!! That's an excuse and all who are saying the kids play out in wind, rain, sleet, snow and tornadoes what a lot of utter rubbish that's when it's not a bloody lockdown!! The NHS aren't using the phrase we come to work for you so you stay at home for us!! For nothing

Rachel709 · 05/04/2020 21:47

We do need a lockdown. And stop the damn planes.

LolaSmiles · 05/04/2020 21:50

BeetrootRocks
That doesn't surprise me one bit.

On the other hand villagers in a village bear me shared on Facebook that car parks near popular walking places were almost full this morning, which also doesn't surprise me because although they aren't big car parks it still means a couple of dozen people decided to ignore the pleas to avoid non-essential journeys and stay local.

There's no doubt the selfish people are the minority though.

riceuten · 05/04/2020 22:04

...tend to be panic buying car drivers with a house full of panic bought pasta, rice, flour, UHT milk, and hand sanitiser who think that the full lockdown won't actually personally apply to them.

Kravarza · 05/04/2020 22:06

I'm in self-isolation for 3 months and can't go out. I set up a mini gym for £250, which is in a tiny flat so I can exercise. Unfortunately give people an inch and they take a yard. Yesterday in London they had to close one of the largest parks after 3,000 sun worshippers decided to flout the rules, and in St Ives, Cornwall people took to the beaches and a publican decided to open his doors, to what I have been told was full of holiday makers. I have friends in Sri Lanka and their lock down is much stricter. They are not allowed to use their cars or exercise, and if caught they are quarantined. Unfortunately there will always be a minority that spoil it for others, and if it continues then more people will die, period. As for essential foods I think we're doing well. Look at the war and rationing - people still had kids and animals. We're spoilt as a society and having that lifestyle leads to greed and selfishness. I'd also like to say that as a self-isolater I cannot get instant slots for food delivery. In fact I've now been waiting over two weeks and I ran out of bread and milk days ago, so I'm drinking water, black coffee and have given up bread. There are ways around everything. And yes I have pets which are getting ample exercise, and adapting to the situation a lot better than humans!!!

doghairismyglitter · 05/04/2020 22:22

@Hanywany my first son was born prematurely after suffering a placental abruption that required me to have a blood transfusion. He had jaundice. I was told by the hospital that putting him in the window had absolutely no benefit at all unless he was completely naked.
Something which a tiny underweight baby would not be able to do as he would not be warm enough.

Unless you know more than the neo natal experts of course.

Rebootingagain · 05/04/2020 22:25

We had coastguard, police etc dealing with some nobber who had driven to a local beauty spot to walk their dog today. Dog (I assume off a lead) got stuck on rocks.

Our local police have specifically told people to exercise from their front doors, not drive to places, and dickheads still flaunt it.

We have also imposed a 40mph speed limit everywhere to reduce load on key workers. Tits aren’t complying to that either.

Let’s face it if people had common sense then nowhere would need speed limits as people would just use their names instead but people are stupid so we need to implement draconian laws - same will happen here
