Do you think people will give less of a shit about celebrity culture after this..?

Particularly the famous for being famous types, your love island, towie, made in Chelsea types. All they do is get pictured out and about and on holiday and stuff they can't do that right now can they and then the trashy mags and papers write about what they have been doing and who they are dating etc

I just wonder if people (in general) will realise how pointless they are and how its a bit embarrassing to aspire to be like them as many seem to

Just something I was pondering on today while reading an old heat mag out of boredom

Nah

Once we're out of this, life will be shit for a long time and Joe public will want mindless escapism on TV again.

organisedmother · 03/04/2020 18:32

I think people may think about what’s important in life, and also I’m sure everyone has noticed all the celebs are very quiet on social media most likely as they can’t get their fillers done and make up artist round.

DianneWhatcock · 03/04/2020 18:57

@organisedmother

Yes I think that's what I mean. People thinking whats importnant in life and who actually is worth looking up to

And yes I bet some of them are hating not having their fillers and botox done etc lol

We can only live in hope!

But I am older, when I was younger you tended to be famous because of a talent, or knowledge etc. You’d done something to warrant the fame, there was no internet, YouTube etc These days fame is given to people who don’t seem to have any discernible talent, because they spent a week in the jungle, or posting pictures of your lunch or your sex life on the inter webs

Genopy · 03/04/2020 19:10

Sadly yes! I think certain people will crave it even more.

ILLBESUZIE · 03/04/2020 19:10

I hope so. This whole current situation makes their pathetic 'look at me' lives very unimportant.

PegLegAntoine · 03/04/2020 19:13

I don’t think any of the positives from this (less emphasis on going out shopping for fun etc) will actually last long after this is over.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 03/04/2020 19:15

I really hope so OP. The vacuous famous for bugger all bunch drive me crazy. The Kartrashians especially irritate me.

Fatted · 03/04/2020 19:15

Well I must admit my Instagram feed has been very quiet of late. Suddenly no one is taking selfies eating ice cream in their Pj's for fourteen days on the trot.

I don't care about them now

Postspecific · 03/04/2020 19:40

Certainly they’re quiet now because they at least appreciate self-obsession isn’t a good look. Hopefully that will have a knock on effect.

Wakeupsunshine · 03/04/2020 20:08

Yes definitely. So much about them is superficial, trivial and meaningless now.

HarrietThePi · 03/04/2020 20:20

Good question. I've never understood what the interest is but I am now interested to know if there's a change once things settle down. I feel like it won't take too long for things to return to how they were though because the magazines etc will continue the stories and eventually people will follow them as they did before. Celebrity face mask slip ups. PPE: Who wore it best?

CountFosco · 03/04/2020 20:25

They were obsessed with the 'bright young things' in the 1920s after WW1 (20M dead) and the Spanish Flu (50M dead) so I can't see we'll be any different.

DianneWhatcock · 04/04/2020 10:31

@CountFosco

Many of ours aren't particularly "bright" though 😂😂

OP posts:
IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 04/04/2020 10:35

I agree with CountFosco, the urge to gossip is hardwired in to the species. Ever since the invention of the printing press and mass literacy there have been people who have been “famous for being famous”.

LavenderQuartz · 04/04/2020 10:38

They are all in TikTok prancing around in loungewear bored out of their tiny brains

Or doing contour videos for Instagram

Think they are forgotten about already. This is no good for them, nobody feeding their ego’s

willdoitinaminute · 04/04/2020 12:29

I’m surprised that we haven’t seen lots of photos of them with Covid. Many will be desperate to catch it so they can do “look at me “ memes with the virus. Very sad people.

willdoitinaminute · 04/04/2020 12:30

Also we all look the same behind a face mask!

Pipandmum · 04/04/2020 12:32

Nope things will return to normal (except the economy) pretty quick once things ease up. The people who get hung up on the cult of celebrity are not going to change.

Egghead68 · 04/04/2020 12:33

No. It won’t change.

DianneWhatcock · 04/04/2020 12:49

@willdoitinaminute

Yeah I thought that as well!!

I would love to think they would all disappear off the radar. Along with so many other tacky aspects of modern life. It would be nice if there was a widespread reevaluation of our priorities after this but who knows.
