Do you think people will give less of a shit about celebrity culture after this..?

Particularly the famous for being famous types, your love island, towie, made in Chelsea types. All they do is get pictured out and about and on holiday and stuff they can't do that right now can they and then the trashy mags and papers write about what they have been doing and who they are dating etc

I just wonder if people (in general) will realise how pointless they are and how its a bit embarrassing to aspire to be like them as many seem to

Just something I was pondering on today while reading an old heat mag out of boredom

@Carbosug yes I am totally with you on the re evaluation of priorities and other tacky aspects of modern life disappearing, would be amazing

I know I for one have stopped bothering about stuff that doesn't really matter. Like for example I used to have Botox, I am due a top up but you know what I still look ok so fuck it. I also used to love shopping for, basically, shit I don't need at weekends. obviously I cant do that now but I also can't imagine wanting to once we are able to again.

Dianne I’m definitely evaluating what I actually need much more carefully now. In particular what is needed to entertain the toddler - I am getting better at using what we have

mindproject · 04/04/2020 15:25

I never did give a shit about celebrities. The majority of the US celebrities are either weird cult or occult members.

DianneWhatcock · 04/04/2020 15:31

@LaneBoy Oh me too, I don't have toddlers, my 3 are a little older but yeah we have been doing stuff like digging out board games, getting them reading more books, playing on my old games console (my old super Nintendo from when I was a kid!). Also now we cant go out at weekends they aren't demanding to be bought stuff when we are looking round shops and asking for greggs / mcdonalds etc

Basically it has made me realise we wasted a lot of money on fairly pointless stuff

Nope, I saw a story about the Kardashian/ Jenners a couple of days ago where they broke the rules so Kylie could do Kims make up for a TV appearance.

DianneWhatcock · 04/04/2020 18:12

@Gingerkittykat Omg seriously ?!

that really is an absolute piss take 😠

Well they have shown just how useless they are. Apart from a few that have donated to the cause or done useful things like singalongs online.

tellmetocalmdown · 04/04/2020 18:40

I hope so! Thats the only good thing to come out of this- we have realised how important key worker jobs actually are and how utterly meaningless, vacuous and shallow and useless those celebs actually are. I hope this has given us a re-set.

Marieo · 04/04/2020 18:40

Hopefully. I hope that 'influencers' don't get 80% if their pay for being self employed from the government though. Posting a picture every few days and getting £££ for it by a sponsor you never use shouldn't be subsided by the government.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 04/04/2020 18:42

No, I think there's a good chance it will get worse.

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 18:48

I said on the hair dye thread that celebs would break the rules.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 04/04/2020 18:56

I have been pondering this too. I have unfollowed anyone vacuous or inane in Insta.

It's just made me think 'what's the point in them?' There plenty of trashy people to follow that just have a bit 'more' about them than the likes of Chloe Ferry (eg) who literally just 'postures' and writhes around in skimpy outfits!

Powerplant · 04/04/2020 18:58

I really hope so🙁

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 18:59

Who the fuck is Chloe Ferry?

KeepWashingThoseHands · 04/04/2020 19:25

I really hope so

FabulouslyElegantTits · 04/04/2020 20:44

@HeIenaDove

Geordie Shore contestant/actor/housemate whatever they're called. She's more Botox and fillers than human DNA I suspect.

HeIenaDove · 04/04/2020 22:10

Oh i see.

DianneWhatcock · 05/04/2020 10:34

@Wewearpinkonwednesdays why do you think it will get worse?

I think the rich need not to flaunt their wealth during an economic downturn. So I imagine the Kardashians might want to rein it in a bit.

Duchessofblandings · 05/04/2020 10:38

Really hope so. Doubt it though.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 05/04/2020 10:42

I hope so. I never really got Towie etc. I know it is taking the piss out of their stupidity much of the time, but I don't even find that funny (it is still nasty despite them being a bit naïve).

I don't get the whole influencer thing. The only thing that influences my purchases is a need for the product and the price. I think we need better role models than these people to be honest.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 05/04/2020 10:50

Interesting question.
It will be interesting to see how or if consumer & human behaviour changes, once this is over

Amboseli · 05/04/2020 10:54

@willdoitinaminute, yes that's what I was thinking.

DianneWhatcock · 05/04/2020 11:19

@AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet

Yes it will and I really hope it does change us in that way for the better

As I said upthread it's changed me for one in some ways.
And for the better.
