For the developed and resourced country that we are, we are potentially going to be overtaking Italy and Spain by the looks of things.
Australia and other nations have death rates in double figures. They were smart to close borders and even close regions. Canada the same. Denmark, etc. The list goes on. South Korea have the situation under control.
We were warned about this. I feel like majority of those deaths could have been avoided.

The shielded group have been supported to stay at home since this week. You do know the virus is widespread by now? Far too little too late.
And many of us have kids. By the time schools were closed a lot of parents in the shielded group will have been exposed to the virus via the school.

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 10:25

Oh I agree, I'd rather they didn't use pangolins in this way, but the actual eating of them is no different to eating cows. Perhaps they should start farming pangolins.

ShanghaiDiva · 04/04/2020 10:25

mango
No live animals in my local market.

mochajoes · 04/04/2020 10:26

So I think a lot of people will be very disappointed they wont be able to blame the UK government at the end of this.

I think some people will be devastated if millions in the UK
dont die as then they can't say I told you so.

excitedmumtobe87 · 04/04/2020 10:26

@alloutoffucks Yes the shielding came too late too.

UYScuti · 04/04/2020 10:26

China has suffered a massive loss of face and cannot afford not to take action
I agree but the actions that they will take will focus mostly on restoring the face, rather than address the problem they will want to do better PR

excitedmumtobe87 · 04/04/2020 10:28

And to be clear I’m not blaming our government for all of this at all. Just the things they got wrong.

MangoFeverDream · 04/04/2020 10:29

I agree but the actions that they will take will focus mostly on restoring the face, rather than address the problem they will want to do better PR

This. They are looking to shift blame on other countries for reacting too slow, when they have not been forthcoming on a lot of details. Hard to prepare when you don’t have all the facts. Perhaps Italy would not be in the position it is today if China had been truthful about what was happening in Wuhan.

GivenchyD · 04/04/2020 10:30

'Your continues posting of lies and ignorance will have encouraged some people not to take suitable precautions when the government was doing nothing'

Oh alloutoffucks what lies and ignorance? For saying wet markets when I meant bat market? Sorry for that one mistake. The rest is true. You are being shielded, you are being supported. The NHS is coping, labs are springing up at unprecedented scales. Ventilators are free and ready to take patients, my friend in a busy city hospital reported not one Covid intubation overnight. Earlier lockdown would not have lasted. It is being effective now when we need it to be.

I understand you're scared and it is such a trying time but please stop with your doomsday predictions. This is global we are doing ok in the circumstances.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 10:31

Ha! reading through the recent comments, dare I even step in here today. 🙄 those on payroll must have a good weekend rate.

Sadly when it comes to wet markets in China you have to a acknowledge the cruel savage practices they have for treating live animals. These filthy grim places are ingrained into the livelihoods and culture across most of the second and third tier cities and towns and in the shadows of the major cities like Shanghai etc. Until their government ultimately outlaws them then we must accept this is how it is.

Bool · 04/04/2020 10:32

@excitedmumtobe87 I find it extraordinary that people say shielding came too late. Alloutoffucks has already explained she shielded herself earlier. I shielded my parents 3 weeks ago. I think most people with any sense made their own decisions as to when they shielded themselves or loved ones. I don’t think there was anyone forcing us to shield on a certain date that was ‘too late’

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 10:35

@alloutoffucks Im not saying the WHO are experts but you have to concede that for the most part no one is an expert in this because it is so new.

So cant you see how the asymptomatic set of data might not have been included?

But also that there hasnt been a Government that hasnt made some misstep - everyone was planning for a flu epidemic not a brand new virus.

No one can escape this without it hitting them one way or another we just arent as all powerful as it seems - we have no power against this virus we can merely try to mitigate contain and control and hope for the best

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 10:37

I shielded my PILS three weeks ago. I didn't wait to be told to do it.

The government has done an unprecedented amount to support businesses and employees during this time.

mochajoes · 04/04/2020 10:37

@alloutoffucks what date did WHO say to close schools?

In early Jan it wasn't even public knowledge that there was human to human contact!

Your continues posting of lies and ignorance will have encouraged some people not to take suitable precautions when the government was doing nothing'

What lies?

Seriously have a word with yourself!

GivenchyD · 04/04/2020 10:41

'Sadly when it comes to wet markets in China you have to a acknowledge the cruel savage practices they have for treating live animals.'

@Wehttam please refer to alloutoffucks comments. We aren't allowed to call them wet markets. To do so demonstrates ignorance please educate yourself (she said)

Bool · 04/04/2020 10:43

We should have locked down earlier only to protect our health service. If our health service doesn’t collapse then we have locked down either at just the right time or indeed too early. At the moment the health service seems to be coping. We should be extremely proud of our NHS and our frontline workers.

I think most will realise as lockdown continues that locking down sooner would have given no additional benefit and that lockdown is not a nice situation for us all to be in.

Next controversy will be - did we come out of lockdown too soon! It will continue!

mochajoes · 04/04/2020 10:44

My mum is on the "list"'& has been isolating for 4 weeks.

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 10:45

@Tonyaster We have been in lock down for 2 weeks. So you shielded PIL a week before that. That will have been too late for some which is why we are now seeing so many die.

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 10:47

We can't stop people getting it eventually. That's not the plan anyway. Just minimise demand onnthe NHS, which as others have said appears to be coping.

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 10:47

They are wet markets. Just understand what they actually are. And I assume you understand the cruel way many animals are treated in Europe. Fois gras anyone? And yes I judge the fuck out of anyone who eats this.

Standrewsschool · 04/04/2020 10:47

Not angry or embaressed. The situation was an ever changing situation, and a new unknown.

It’s always easier to be wise after the event.

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 10:48

You are pretty judgemental generally on this thread tbh fucks.

excitedmumtobe87 · 04/04/2020 10:49

@bool I shielded myself early too but still had to send the children to school. My elderly neighbour refused to shield herself early and I was very worried. Not everyone realised they had to do so sadly.

excitedmumtobe87 · 04/04/2020 10:50

I do agree with what everyone says about wet markets too to be clear.

Alsohuman · 04/04/2020 10:50

Not just here. She got really arsey about my choice as to whether I’d live or die a few weeks ago.
