Who is coming out of this crisis looking good or bad

Good: Arnold Swarzenegger -self isolating with his miniature donkey and donating $1m for ppe
Joe Wicks -the nation's PE teacher.

Bad: Dominic Cummings- legging it with the Downing St toilet rolls and now holed up in his bunker self isolating.
Alok Sharma- I just read an article saying the government are using him to bore people into stop watching the daily update and asking all those awkward questions about testing.

If you want to see examples of government doing well look to Taiwan and New Zealand, then look at their death rates. Taiwan had multiple flights per day to Wuhan and are in close proximity, yet having suffered previously actually learnt from their experiences.

LightACandleHoney · 03/04/2020 07:56

@huglessduglas I know it was outing, but I’m glad it was - I hadn’t heard anything about BGS and it makes me happy that they have responded so well

rookiemere · 03/04/2020 07:59

Good - who I don't think has been mentioned yet Martin Lewis for putting his own money into a crisis fund and giving people up to date info about what benefits and money they can claim

Carbosug · 03/04/2020 08:19

Good Leo Varadker

Bad Boris Johnson and Donald Trump

CleanAndPaidFor · 03/04/2020 08:29

Good ( other than the obvious saintly NHS)

My children's amazing supportive teachers who are providing work and feedback while probably managing their own kids

The BBC and other broadcasters- but mainly the BBC for managing to cobble together systems and ways or working and keep the country entertained and informed.

Bad

People using up all the gloves and masks which are needed by the NHS then dumping them on the pavement all over the place.

Boris Johnson

The government in Northern Ireland for resorting to petty squabbling instead of showing leadership,

Thedogshow · 03/04/2020 08:39

I think it’s quite thoughtless to base an opinion on whether someone is good or bad on one headline on their behaviour in this crisis.
So often people are a mix of good and bad. One celebrity called ‘bad’ may actually be a huge charity donor, another company who appears to have behaved in a ‘good’ way may actually have just done something to grab a headline and look wonderful and actually be a terrible place to work.
If you had to be publicly judged by people voting on the internet for one thing you said that had not necessarily been chosen by you to be made public (ie a headline) you may end up good... or bad.
Things are so much more complex than this.

Thedogshow · 03/04/2020 08:41

And also: I think that 6 months down the line things may seem very different.
Something that seemed like the right thing to do now might seem like the wrong thing in retrospect.
It’s very complex.
People and companies are trying to negotiate something fast moving that they don’t understand.

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 12:02

I wonder who will come out of this looking like the best world leader and who will be the worst?
Surely trump will be the worst?

ssd · 03/04/2020 16:01

I agree about Martin Lewis being in the good camp.

His emails helping people with their finances are great.

ivykaty44 · 03/04/2020 16:04

Philip green left BHS pensions stripped bare to line his pockets and now wants a government bail out, I’m not seeing any good there or mixture of good

ivykaty44 · 03/04/2020 16:05

UYScuti

My money is on Jacinda Ardern

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 18:15

Jacinda Ardern
I think you're prob spot on there Ivy!

TheDrsDocMartens · 03/04/2020 18:51

She’s in my good books. Canada not too bad either.

LooQoo · 06/04/2020 18:18

Surprisingly, the National Trust are looking bad. They have closed everything but are still charging member fees (in contrast to Sports Direct who automatically froze gym fees - no hassle).

The National Trust also put stones across the entrance / exit to a car park we were in (before lockdown). It’s not a busy site, just a smallish car park close to us, where a lot of older people go to walk. There were no signs up stating that they were intending to block everyone in the car park that day. There was an older lady in tears when we got back from our walk as she couldn’t get her car out - luckily DP and another man moved them so we could all get out.

megletthesecond · 06/04/2020 18:55

Good. My dc's secondary and primary schools. Appropriate amount of work, good humoured Facebook updates and activities for Easter. Also DS's karate class who are doing on line zoom classes.
Jack Monroe and Martin Lewis for cracking on and doing what they do best.
Cardi B, the girl has no filter but I do think she's great.

Bad;
UK government. They needed a rocket up their backside and should have got organised after February half term.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/04/2020 19:19

The National Trust membership is a charitable donation. In return you get free access to their properties.

It’s not like a gym membership. You are not paying for a service as such. The properties will still need upkeep of millions to preserve them for the future generations. I feel very passionately about the NT and donations. I worry for the amazing properties and collections without any income.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/04/2020 19:21

Another vote for Jacinda.

You forgot this bit. Maybe if they treated their supporters better, you wouldn’t have to worry.

Inspiralcarpetry · 06/04/2020 19:55

Good:
Any celeb who has supported national causes.
On the whole, the government (*except testing, PPE etc, hmm...)
Molton Brown have donated lots of products and soaps to the NHS.
NHS frontline workers, retail, supply chain and delivery folk Star

Bad: Any celeb who has just used the crisis for self promotion. That twatty Imagine video was cringe.
Philip Green.
Richard Branson.
Tui - terrible customer service and slow/no reaction to the crisis.
China - for terrible animal/hygiene practices and unleashing this world pandemic.

AnyFucker · 06/04/2020 19:57

What has James McAvoy done ?

Nekoness · 06/04/2020 20:04

“What has James McAvoy done ?”

Taught you how to use google. Put his name in, hit the “news” tab. Tadaa.

Mookie81 · 06/04/2020 20:06

Bad- Waitrose; apparently they've told employees who have self isolated they will need to pay back that time.

Nekoness · 06/04/2020 20:09

Bad: my kids’ teachers. Cobbled together a schedule that must’ve taken all of 20 minutes with some links. I know, because it took me an hour to trawl through twinkl and figure out a similar schedule and I had to guess what they were meant to be working on. Apparently they’ve all been collaborating on zoom and are going to “roll out” something after Easter. Hope it’s not like the 4 slide power point on growing veg that my 9 year could’ve cobbled together. Hmm

Lennonmc · 06/04/2020 20:11

BAD: the way thousands/millions are suffering worldwide due to these new laws and restrictions of services. Families died in China of starvation. Thousands soon to die in India and China (forcefully stopped from accessing food or water). In this country domestic violence reports are soaring. The already poor Mental health of the young (and old) severely damaged by the new fear of socialising, touching objects. But hey we MIGHT save some lives to compensate.

Lennonmc · 06/04/2020 20:19

Sorry that should have said India and Africa (that I know of)
