Honestly, I have not been out now for over 2 weeks with my DC. We took them for a drive today round our village for 2 minutes out the house.... people were still out chatting to each other and letting there DC play on the parks!!!

WTF is wrong with people? Its not just about the Fing virus anymore! Don't you all get that....

People are having cancer investigations AND treatments stopped! And this will carry on for as long as this virus is here! People are going to DIE from cancer and other illness' because people are to SELFISH to stay in doors!!

My poor DM will more than likely lose her best friend of 50 years to cancer as her op has been cancelled! And then to top it of she probably won't even be allowed at her funeral if it comes to it...
But no one gives a shit. As long as they can get out and do what ever it is they want to do!!

Selfish tw*ts.

the virus would be gone in a few weeks

No, it won’t be gone in a few weeks however strictly we adhere to the lockdown. It might be under control, Sadly realistically it won’t go in that timeframe.

JustMySize · 01/04/2020 23:01

I had to visit the hospital yesterday, this was the first time out in 3 weeks. I too was amazed at the amount of people out and about.

There were families walking down the high street of a town, people out excising, jogging and running, there were families on bikes and loads of people shopping.

This was on the way home as I would have liked to get some bread but it was so busy at three places I tried, I just returned home.

What went through my mind was that if any of them had an accident, be it a fall or hit by a car or coming off their bike and they would expect to be cared for by the NHS.

I understand what we are allowed to do, food shop, medical appointments, exercise, etc. but, really, I have seen more people out an about than normal.

Exercise at or near home, don't have your children running near road while out 'walking' and don't put your child or yourself at risk on the road on bicycles.

Groups of kids playing, etc. why aren't their parents looking after them?

And during all this, apart from at the hospital, I only saw one person wearing a mask.

On the TV today they were showing how India was coping with the virus and it looked like they were all wearing masks.

We need to get a grip in this country and take this virus seriously, they will be bringing in martial law next if we don't do the right thing and follow the rules.

I've come to the conclusion that the majority who think they are above the rules/law are really too stupid to fully understand the consequences of their idiotic actions.

OhClover · 01/04/2020 23:01

@e1y1 so sorry to hear that and best wishes to your mother Flowers As if cancer isn’t shit enough at the best of times.

EmbarrassingMama · 01/04/2020 23:02

What are “tummy issues”?

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 01/04/2020 23:02

There were families walking down the high street of a town, people out excising, jogging and running, there were families on bikes and loads of people shopping.

So all within the rules then? Assuming the shopping was for food etc.

WorraLiberty · 01/04/2020 23:03

And even if you can't take your DD to the park, at least take the poor kid for a few walks around the block.

Many people even have rainbow paintings and messages in their windows, to encourage parents like you to do this!

e1y1 · 01/04/2020 23:05

Thank you very much @OhClover

It just is awful to think how many are going to be affected on top of how many will be affected by actual Covid

Frequency · 01/04/2020 23:05

But If the idiots I am talking about would do their 'daily 1 hour exercise' instead of standing at the park with their mates and DC the virus would be gone in a few weeks and we could all go out and socialise, people could see their mental health workers, have their cancer taken away and at some stage we can all get back to normal

Except it wouldn't. Key workers will pass it to their families, some of whom may have two or even three key workers in the household who would the pass it to their families and the key workers within their families etc. Someone will touch a metal fence post that someone else touched while they were on their one hour exercise while not showing symptoms but carrying the virus and take it home to their family.

The virus is here to stay until we find a vaccine, unfortunately. What we're trying to do is flatten the peak ie spread the rate of infection so the NHS can cope. The aim was never to get rid of the virus. That's no more possible than it is to get rid of the common cold or chicken pox. Once the curve has flattened and the NHS is coping cancer treatments will be back - although, I don't agree with them being cancelled in the first instance, and mental health workers will be back until we get another peak, and possibly a shorter, less stringent period of restrictions to then flatten the peak and so on and so forth until there is either a vaccine or enough herd immunity to protect the majority so the NHS can cope with the minority who are not immune.

I do agree that people should not be having parties or gathering in unnecessary groups but all the judgement and screams of people are dying are not helping. All they're doing is whipping up hysteria and making people who need to leave the house wary of doing so.

There are no time limits on daily exercise, where do you get that myth from?

Whatever people do isn't going to make this virus ins't just going to go away and we all return to normal in a few weeks, the new normal will be a recession, unemployment and high taxes.

800,000 UK businesses say they will go bust within a few months if this continues, with 40% saying they can last ONE more month!!!

They won't suddenly re-emerge! it will take years, if at all.

maggiso · 01/04/2020 23:08

My understanding is that we have been advised to stay at home -( which can include own gardens/ balcony) only to go out for essentials ( medicine/ health/ food/ work that can’t be done at home) and we are allowed to go out for exercise.- all keeping at least 2 meters from others. Only the very vulnerable or those with symptoms of CV, have been told to stay indoors and strictly self isolate.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 01/04/2020 23:09

The virus won’t be gone in a few weeks OP, this lockdown is to pace the rate of infection so the NHS can cope.

jasjas1973 · 01/04/2020 23:11

or enough herd immunity to protect the majority so the NHS can cope with the minority who are not immune

There is no evidence for this so called herd immunity OR how long it would last.

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/04/2020 23:15

This thread has really upset and frightened me. I had breast cancer surgery last week and am due to start radiotherapy. At no point during this have I been told that my treatment might be cancelled or delayed. Not once, quite the opposite, my treatment has been fast because all non-essential surgery has been cancelled, as my surgeon said "Covid means we need to get you done and dusted". I wish I hadn't read this.

Frequency · 01/04/2020 23:19

www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2020/03/C0119-Maintaining-cancer-services--letter-to-trusts.pdf

You're treatment won't be stopped if it is urgent @TheFormidableMrsC. I wish you well in your recovery Flowers

LegArmpits · 01/04/2020 23:19

This is absolutely untrue, certainly from my part of the world (Wales) - two friends, one suspected appendicitis was seen at GPs within an hour and sent on to hospital straight away, assessed, sent home to return for a scan the following morning.
Other friend's elderly relative rushed in for emergency bowel surgery within the hour.

maggiso · 01/04/2020 23:24

Formidable- please remember what your BC team have told you - they want to get your treatment done and dusted- all appointments are being triaged in the hospitals and urgent treatment given priority. Routine monitoring appointments and those that are deemed low risk ( of harm caused by a delay) will be delayed, not you.

Jenasaurus · 01/04/2020 23:24

I was thinking this was going to be about traffic accidents, as they will also be affected by this, people going out for a drive if they have an accident, an ambulance wont be able to prioritise them in the same way as previously and then the risk of ending up in a hospital with the virus, seriously dont go for a drive, stay home

Rhea1981 · 01/04/2020 23:25

I don't understand how they can justify cancelling cancer surgeries. That is absolutely horrific and those poor people. I've had cancer myself and I I had surgery with 2 weeks of diagnosis. I was in bits at the time, absolutely terrified and can't imagine being told my surgery was being cancelled.
I hope most people are taking this lock down seriously. It's easy to judge other people while being out yourself and thinking your reasons are justified. My children haven't been out since schools broke up but luckily we have a garden with lots to do so they're quite happy. I've been going out once a week alone to the supermarket, cleaning the trolley and using hand gel but I'm still terrified of getting it.

Jenasaurus · 01/04/2020 23:25

and I work for an ambulance trust

Freshairimportanttoo · 01/04/2020 23:25

I've not been out for ages either and did a drive, I saw people out but definitely at a social distance.

People being out is not the issue it's whether they are socially distancing, speaking to other households etc.

Round me I think considering how many people must be here all at once we are doing extremely well!!

My road is usually a rat run, it's so quiet, my town has a few drunks out some teens sneaking out but hell... 100%compliance isn't possible.

We are doing really really well round here.

How much longer that will last however esp with Easter coming up? Many people are still working from home...

What will happen when more people aren't free who knows and that could be when it's critical to stay in.

JemimaPuddleCat · 01/04/2020 23:27

Jesus Christ are people really this stupid?

Duck90 · 01/04/2020 23:27

For a 2 minute drive, are you really an authority on how long the people you saw were lingering?

Billi77 · 01/04/2020 23:28

Out of curiosity, how many of you have a garden? For those of us in small flats without outdoor space staying in comes at a cost to our mental and physical health. I agree fully that people are behaving like cretins. The number of times DD and I have had to walk on the road to maintain enough distance from people walking side by side taking up the whole pavement, not to mention groups in parks. I could go on but my point is some of us just have to get fresh air, with caution and awareness of others

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 01/04/2020 23:31

You're a very angry hypocrite OP.

'daily 1 hour exercise'

Link for that?
Also how do you know how long anyone has been out?

Amotherof6 · 01/04/2020 23:35

Oh dear....
This virus is going to be around a long time.... because of
"Amibeingunr Wed 01-Apr-20 22:17:11
My neighbour has cancer and had her operation cancelled. My other neighbour in her 50’s and a key worker, had a few friends arrive earlier, wine in hand. Beggars belief."

Sigh
