I know there are alot of people who are extremely worried to the extent where they're thinking of nothing else so thought it might be nice to hear about some of the positive outcomes as opposed to the rising death rate and very sad cases that we are seeing in the media.

I'm in a Facebook group called "shine a light for coronavirus" and on there I've seen some lovely posts from the relatives of some elderly survivors who have overcome the virus.

To mention two, an 86 year old lady with underlying health issues and another lady in her 90s who recovered from coronavirus despite suffering two heart attacks in the recent past rendering her weak and not in the best of health - the media would have you believe that it is an instant death sentence for people in this category.

This is by no means an attempt to take away from the terribly sad outcomes for some of those who do pass away from coronavirus, i just want to remind those who are suffering from extreme anxiety that the almost all people do survive this. Even the elderly and immunocompromised.

Does anybody else have any positive outcomes to share? Have you had it and recovered or know somebody else who has?

Bumping for someone else.

Gin96 · 02/04/2020 08:49

What a great thread, this brings this situation into prospective, it has cheered me up no end 😊

Prof David Speigelhalter says that your chances of dying from a diagnosed case are more or less the same as your chances would be of dying in the next year, given your age and health. For most people that’s a very reassuring thought.

My Dad returned from N Italy 5 (or was it 6?!) weeks ago. He had all the covid symptoms, fever, cough, flu like aches and fstigue. He couldn’t get tested as the area he had returned from fell 5miles outside the line that the U.K. government had decided to implement testing for people returning from N Italy at the time.
He was unwell at home but couldn’t get medical attention as he wasn’t deemed sick enough to go to what were at the time Covid units, and the GP /111 could not offer any advice, only to contact the other!
After 2 weeks of being ill he started to improve, by week 3 he was almost back to normal but coughs if talks too much or moves too fast, by now he is almost totally back to normal.

It looks very much like my mil (mid 70s) has this back in February. She had all the symptoms (was about to go back to the doctor about the cough and lack of breath before lockdown happened). She was poorly for a while - high temp, trouble breathing, cough, no sense or taste/smell. She said she felt terrible and I’ve never seen her so ill. She kept away from us as DS should have been sitting wxams and she was worried that he’s get a dose (she is always very good about self iscolating if she is sick). She is much better now though.

Really heartened to read this thread, thank you OP!

My sister is a ward sister and has been tested and confirmed to have corona. She has asthma and she’s been absolutely fine. Said it felt like a bad head cold, sore throat and dry cough but still able to get about and do everything as normal.

She’s back to work on Sunday after isolating, she can’t wait!

TeddyIsaHe · 02/04/2020 09:08

Oh yes she said the worst bit was losing her sense of taste!

ILLBESUZIE · 02/04/2020 09:10

I think I've had it...

Horrendously Achy limbs
Body chills - cold to my core (has to wear gloves and three pairs of socks and multiple layers of clothes)
Cough
Metallic taste in mouth
One night with a hot sweat
But seemed to only last 2 days

Hobbitbobbit · 02/04/2020 09:10

My cousin has it, confirmed as she's a junior nurse and was tested positive. She's had cough, fever, upset tummy at the beginning, aches, and headache. But she really thought she only had a flu and was very surprised the test came back positive.

I'm still very nervous but agree it's very helpful to try and keep grounded and hear of these positive outcomes.

Hobbitbobbit · 02/04/2020 09:12

Oh yes she also said she'd feel better and then feel really rough again for a couple of hours and this went on for a few days.

ILLBESUZIE · 02/04/2020 09:13

Forgot to add the extreme tiredness - had no energy whatsoever

ToTheDoctors · 02/04/2020 09:21

Thank you for this post ❤️
I don't know anyone who has had it but, as someone who suffers with anxiety, it's lovely to read about those who have recovered

Eyewhisker · 02/04/2020 09:24

I know people here don’t like statistics but 90% of those in their 80s who get it survive. And this is for the worst affected group. For pretty much everyone, the probability of dying once infected is the same as dying within a year. So if that is very unlikely due to age etc, it will remain so. See BBC link below.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51979654

In Italy half of all deaths are in those in their 90s.

I know loads in London who think they have had it with classic symptoms and not one who has needed to go to hospital so far.

Eyewhisker · 02/04/2020 09:26

It is still the case that for most people this is a mild illness. The big problem is that so many get it at once.

Gin96 · 02/04/2020 09:51

@Eyewhisker such a good post, it puts the current crisis into prospective 😊

ToTheDoctors · 02/04/2020 11:33

Thanks @Eyewhisker for your positive post

steppemum · 02/04/2020 11:44

My brother in law is a medic in another European country. He had it and tested positive for it. Wasn't too ill, is now fine.
His wife had it (but they wouldn't test) she was pretty unwell, but recovered.

They have 3 kids, early teens. One is had a heart transplant 2 years ago. None of the kids caught it.

Roostersmum2 · 02/04/2020 12:38

Thank you for the continued contributions, it's lovely to hear about so many recovering

Here's another I came across last night, 102 year old lady makes a complete recovery

My sisters partner had it confirmed. He is ok now and basically spiked a high temperature for one day and just felt achy and exhausted for about a week. My sister didn’t have it confirmed but had similar symptoms and is now out of isolation.
