How long do you think we can tolerate this lockdown?

I know it's necessary and for thy e greater good, but how long do you think society will tolerate it before (more) people start flouting the rules? Are there psychologists who the government are consulting about how long humans can be expected to live like this? I know people say we are just being asked to sit on our sofas but that's a very simplistic way of looking at a gargantuan change in lifestyle and social habits which are engrained within us.

I think people could manage 8-12 weeks and I think the toll on mental health will start to outweigh the physical health benefits.

@starlightgazers shall I say that to my son with Sen then shall I ? Not that he will understand.
How about some understanding and if you don't please don't comment .
People are allowed to say they are struggling and some are struggling more than others .
Be kind .

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 15:12

I'm not sure which NHS Worker has been briefed to expect pretty much all business to be closed until September, but they either misunderstood, are lying, or need a day off

NHS workers inn my trust have been told it is going to be months before any sort of 'normal life' resumes . Schools have been told October. Ignoring your pathetic last comment, why would I lie? Why would the government and the experts lie about these being ling term measures?

colouringinpro · 31/03/2020 15:13

Another one knowing it has to be done, but really struggling. Was self isolating with dcs til last Sunday so 3rd week here. Think I would find it easier if I had confidence in our government and believed what they and CMO were saying...

bluewafflewithmayo · 31/03/2020 15:13

Which school has been told to expect October?

You are making factual statements which are based on absolutely nothing.

What government source or expert has told us that the current level of lockdown will be in place until October?

madcatladyforever · 31/03/2020 15:17

Ive seen quite a few people dying this week in my hospital. I'll be happily doing it for as long as it takes.

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 15:18

shall I say that to my son with Sen then shall I ? Not that he will understand

Sod off with the 'be kind' crap for a start please..

I also have a son with severe autism and prayer-willi syndrome. I'm a single parent to him, I still have to go to work and I have lost a lost of money in bookings for a holiday home I let out. Yes, it's hard, he is scared and I am exhausted. But I would still rather this than him out me die a horrible death alone and gasping for breath because facilities are overwhelmed and vital drugs and equipment scarce.

ListeningQuietly · 31/03/2020 15:18

madcatlady
10,000 people die every week in the UK
every year
with or without covid

where will the money for the NHS come from without businesses generating taxes?

ilovecakeandwine · 31/03/2020 15:20

There's a difference between saying it will be months before any normality and that it will be lockdown for months .
No one is arguing that it won't take months before things will go back to normal but that doesn't mean we will be on lockdown all this time .

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 15:20

Ive seen quite a few people dying this week in my hospital

Same here, and I think the ones on here saying 'they'd happily take their chances' would have a rethink if they had seen the same. This is not mainlylittle old men and women dying peacefully and comfortably in their sleep ....

ClientQueen · 31/03/2020 15:22

I live alone and am shielding so no human contact for 12 weeks. It's ok at the minute

ilovecakeandwine · 31/03/2020 15:22

Then you will understand @starlightgazers but please let people say they are struggling they are feeling all these things . If it upsets you so much I suggest you find another thread .

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 15:25

Which school has been told to expect October?

My DC's school has sent a letter saying they have been briefed by Downing Street to expect October.

I'm not saying anything that is not based on evidence - if you choose to believe otherwise that is your choice and I really don't care, as you will find out soon enough anyway.

PhilCornwall1 · 31/03/2020 15:27

My DC's school has sent a letter saying they have been briefed by Downing Street to expect October.

None around here have had anything at all.

bluewafflewithmayo · 31/03/2020 15:29

Absolute rot.

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 15:46

@bluewafflewithmayo

Absolute rot

OK then.

How long do you think we can tolerate this lockdown?
ginghamstarfish · 31/03/2020 15:50

Some months, not finding it too hard at present. DH is WFH full time, so normal income thankfully. Managing to get food delivery once a week for now, and can walk around the garden several times a day for exercise. I know it's different if you're in a flat, have no outdoor space, or can't get food easily. Everyone's different though - we've never been pubgoers, don't care for eating out, rarely fly abroad etc, so don't miss those things. Others will.

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 15:52

I tell you what is absolute rot though, which is 'the death rate is going down'. 390 in one day. And that his not all of them, they are not all old and they did not all have any significant health concerns. And this will not yet include all those who caught it in packed shops and pubs before lockdown. You won't see those figures until next week at least.

The NHS is already collapsing and our figures are currently accelerating even faster that Italy's did. Wake the fuck up people, governments do not bring countries to a virtual standstill for no reason. This is serious and people need to follow the advice.

kirstywursty012 · 31/03/2020 15:55

I’m really struggling to be honest. My one year old has decided to start dropping 4 hours worth of naps to 40 minutes and I just can’t do any work. I hope they come up with something in a few weeks which means low risk people can start going back to work and nursery - I appreciate people are dying but my stress levels and mental health are taking an absolute hit. I’m finding it harder to hit deadlines and I’m completely exhausted.

ilovecakeandwine · 31/03/2020 15:57

@starlightgazers calm down Shock
The government has already advised this may go on for 6 months doesn't mean it will . Most people are hopeful that schools will open a lot earlier there is nothing wrong with this .
Stop getting angry with people it's no ones fault .

ListeningQuietly · 31/03/2020 16:00

Starlight
So your daughter's school has had direct confirmation from Downing Street when the rest of the country has not.
Yeah right.
She has a very imaginative deputy head of middle school.

The NHS is already collapsing
Because of ten years of Tory Austerity.
80,000 vacancies before Covid struck.
Most trusts in deficit before Covid struck

Don't blame us for the lack of PPE
blame the people who chose to underfund the NHS

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 16:06

please let people say they are struggling they are feeling all these things . If it upsets you so much I suggest you find another thread

I am supportive and I sympathise with those struggling. It is hard, I am not denying that. But I do not see a viable alternative.

My comments are directed at those who are openly saying they will start flouting the rules if this goes on 'too long'. Who are making statements like 'the death rate is going down', people minimising how much of a threat this actually is.

starlightgazers · 31/03/2020 16:07

Oh, and you don't seem to like being told to stay in, by the same token please don't tell me where to post on an open forum.

ilovecakeandwine · 31/03/2020 16:12

I don't need to be told to stay in by you . I've been told to stay in by BJ last week it doesn't mean I or others aren't struggling and we are going to ignore those rules I haven't said that .
Please refer to my previous post where I said to calm down and I suggested not told you to find another thread if this one upsets you so much .

BeijingBikini · 31/03/2020 16:12

The NHS aren't being overwhelmed because Sheila from Derby decided to go on 2 walks

They're being overwhelmed because
a) >7 million staff are still having to go into work and mix with ill people, and send their kids to school to mix with ill kids. No matter how well the rest of the country does lockdown, that will cause vast majority of spread during lockdown
b) They had 10 years of shite funding from a shite government who didn't care about them

madcatladyforever · 31/03/2020 16:13

I have no idea why Starlight is being attacked. It must be incredibly tough for her to work in the NHS as look after a child with all those problems.
It isn't her fault if lock down continues indefinitely.
She's just trying to make the best of a bad job and I think we all need to try.
We've only had week one and people are freaking out. How are people going to cope with week 8?
The alternative is to ditch lock down, reopen all businesses and hope we don't die in our thousands like Italy.
Because that is our choice. Are people prepared to take that risk? That is the question here.
