I know we are nowhere near yet I just wondered what MNtters think.Personally I think it would be the schools that went back first and as I work in hospitality I doubt it is us.What does anyone else think?

I don't see furlough ending completely in 3 months - that would require pretty much all restrictions to be off. Industry specific, or with a more detailed company application (so explaining why you are furloughing whereas I don't think there's going to be any need for that initially) seems a likely route.

I don’t think that’s logically correct.

I think most would assume it will be open for social, hospitality, airlines and airports, but they can easily shut it down for everyone else. In fact they will need to.

You can force the population back to work and stop all socialising, events etc too and maintain social distancing. The two are not mutually dependent.

I doubt it will be open past six weeks max for any one out with the social, hospitality, airlines airports max.

But you certainly don’t need to lift all restrictions to get people back to work. You can still shut down all form of socialising and maintain social distancing requirements.

That's exactly what I was saying so I'm not sure what the logic fail is? I said I think it won't end entirely but will probably be industry specific. By ending it entirely i mean it not being available to anyone.

@AutumnRose1

They’ll probably just want to see evidence of a good work ethic and a couple of decent references. They can train you to do the job.

I think you might be right though - there may well be a demand for temps when businesses reopen as there will be people off sick / self isolating. Have you spoken with any recruiters? They will be talking to their clients and should have a good idea on what businesses are planning.

I'd say shops first as people do need to buy things that aren't "essential" such as food. DIY shops, garden centres, clothing shops, etc could all start to re-open if social distancing measures are put in place. Maybe also garages, takeaways, hotels etc if social distancing and hygiene standards can be respected which depends on the premises. It wouldn't surprise me to see such places start to re-open within a few weeks.

I can't see schools, cafes, restaurants, pubs, popular tourist attractions, hairdressers, nail bars, etc., opening for quite some time as you're always going to struggle with maintaining social distancing in those environments. Realistically, I think you'd be looking at a few months, maybe mid to late Summer, for such places to start re-opening - if all goes well, schools are probably OK to re-open as usual start of September.

Yes, I think it will be a very gradual thing spanning many weeks/months. Even within the same industry, some firms/employers will be able to re-open sooner than others depending on premises, working arrangements, etc. It will all be about social distancing, hygiene, protecting employees/customers, etc. There'll be no "one size fits all" - it will literally be on a firm by firm, premises by premises basis. If a firm, school, hotel, attraction, or whatever can't make it's premises/services safe for staff, suppliers and customers, then it won't re-open.
