I know we are nowhere near yet I just wondered what MNtters think.Personally I think it would be the schools that went back first and as I work in hospitality I doubt it is us.What does anyone else think?

Once the ban is lifted, i dont think there will be an order. Your company will open the offices and call u back in

ToTheWall · 30/03/2020 20:15

I definitely think it will be gradually lifted; maybe schools first, then hairdressers etc

MigginsMrs · 30/03/2020 20:17

I think it might be kind of in reverse order as to how they were imposed. So maybe some spaces opening and some shops but maintaining distancing

Hannah021 · 30/03/2020 20:29

every day of lockdown is costing the economy billions of pounds... They need businesses up and running as soon as possible.

whatisforteamum · 30/03/2020 20:34

I was thinking what is the least risky if there were such a thing.

Here in Italy they say production first to get money moving and people back to work. Schools will be the last thing to go back.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/03/2020 20:36

I think it will start with businesses as the government will want people to get back to work. But not pubs/clubs/cinemas, I think they will come later on. Schools being the last thing to reopen.

HoffiCoffi13 · 30/03/2020 20:40

I don’t think it will be schools... I think they’ll be last to reopen. It will start with businesses/production and non essential shops. Then hospitality.

Hollyhead · 30/03/2020 20:41

I think reverse order - cafes etc may be allowed to open but with 1/2 tables etc. I expect the ‘stay at home for 7 days if you have a cough/temp’ will last at least 18 months, probably spring 2022.

WtfIsThisEven · 30/03/2020 20:43

I don’t think schools will be the last to open, if business are reopening and they want everyone back to work, who will look after the kids? Confused

Schools will have to open fairly quickly, as the parents won’t be able to go back to work without DC being cared for.
Hospitality will be last I think. People working from home will continue to do so for as long as possible. Get the shops open first but maintaining social distancing.

Construction

PegLegAntoine · 30/03/2020 20:48

Reverse order sounds sensible. I’ve been wondering if they’ll put extra measures in to make it slower - such as only letting certain school years back in (although maybe they wouldn’t do that if exams are cancelled already), or somehow limiting numbers on restaurants like only being able to have fewer tables in use or something? Or limits in shops. I don’t think limited hours would work because people would just cram the shopping in to shorter times, queue outside etc. I can’t really see any practical solutions to any of it.

I’m so worried that they’ll just lift everything at once and the rush to get back to normal life will cause an unimaginable surge. So I hope they do it gradually, somehow

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2020 20:50

They will get everyone back to work except social/hospitality/airlines/airports and cut all funding to force it. I would guess in four to five weeks max.

I assume they will ask companies to ensure social distancing and let folks work from home where possible and ask schools to take kids where both parents can’t work from home.

We don’t have the money to shut down too long and they asked a lot of companies not to and many did, shooting the bill up massively. So they need to stop the spend.

As such, getting the economy moving again with be the very first thing that happens.

Hollyhead · 30/03/2020 20:52

I don’t see why cafes etc can’t operate with smaller numbers. People might take social distancing more seriously now

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2020 20:52

Schools we be the last to open I think

Schools aren’t actually closed, they are open for key workers, all they will do is extend that for parents where neither can work from home.

But they can’t reopen the economy without sending kids back to school and they can’t not reopen the economy.

Freshairimportanttoo · 30/03/2020 20:53

But surely only primary schools need parents looking after children, secondary and colleges should be last.

Maybe people won't get pilloried for simply walking in the fresh air.

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2020 20:55

Arguably lots of secondary school kids can’t be left alone at home all day. Many parents wouldn’t be happy to leave and eleven or twelve year old home alone day after day.

Plus lots of kids have additional needs and can’t be left alone for their own safety or mental health.

Colleges I agree though.

Hopefully the first thing is to be able to visit other households. Miss my DP and can’t wait to see him again!

Chosennone · 30/03/2020 20:56

It is very unlikely schools will open fully before September.
Maybe they will lift some restrcitions in the summer months as the flu season isn't as much of an added issue for the NHS.
So maybe late May businesses, production and some shops, salons, dog groomers etc. Maybe cafes with fewer tables and hand sanitisers at the doors. All take aways. Limited numbers on public transport. Social distancing in parks, beaches and social areas.
Pubs without food maybe late. Nightclubs/gigs/converts much later or with majorly reduced numbers.

Alternatively we might all be given a green code like they're doing in China.

hammeringinmyhead · 30/03/2020 20:56

I lost my job and can't even look for work until nurseries reopen, because I can't give a new employer a start date until then. I am sure there are many in the same boat as me.

Oldhaggard · 30/03/2020 20:56

I think it's a possibility that it'll be done in reverse order, with hospitality last. But I think there will be more time between each 'lifting' to guage the impact. So first the guidelines/restricted lifted on being at home and allowed to visit family and friends, travel certain distances to shop/exercise while still observing social distancing, and maybe that for a month to see if it affects infection rates, then open schools/non essential business and shops and again monitor to see the effects on the infection rate and the effects on the NHS and other agencies. Think it'll take a lot longer to restart the country than it took to shut it down.

Freshairimportanttoo · 30/03/2020 20:57

Peg they won't rush anything and hopefully it will coincide with tests.

We seem to have a massive problem with test. We know all about ventilators and breathing apparatus but who is making these tests Confused.
Staggered is a great idea.

Certain year groups, gradually tick things over and buy time for the vaccine.

God, yes. Can't wait to go and see some mum friends, and for a bit of grandparental babysitting during the week.
