I know we are nowhere near yet I just wondered what MNtters think.Personally I think it would be the schools that went back first and as I work in hospitality I doubt it is us.What does anyone else think?

I would hope private nurseries would be able to open. Working from home might be possible with a school aged child but with a toddler it's almost impossible.

StarsThatTwinkle · 30/03/2020 22:55

How can workers with children go back if schools aren't open? Confused

Sallycinnamum · 30/03/2020 23:01

My DC's head teacher seems pretty confident primary schools will be back open June when I saw her a couple of days ago.

Where she's got that info from I've got no idea but I hope she's right.

StarsThatTwinkle · 30/03/2020 23:06

Sinister Sad in the same boat, kind of... re-fractured a back tooth last week, no loose piece but it's jangling and sensitive, keeping it at bay with nurofen. Got some oil of cloves on order and looking into dental wax.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/03/2020 23:11

I’ve been sending photos of my wonky puffed up face to my dentist and he prescribed me antibiotics but that is about all he can do right now. I couldn’t find oragel but have corsadyl and sensodyne. Can’t sleep.

BackforGood · 30/03/2020 23:12

@AutumnRose1 - not the issue in my house Grin. On a continuum, I'm closer to 'Hoarders' than 'Minimalist' Blush

This is very good for me.

fedup21 · 30/03/2020 23:24

I think the schools will go back 1 June (as long as these restrictions reduce the peak). You then have 3 weeks before the 12 week period ends for vulnerable people.

My school can’t open for any weeks if vulnerable people are still within the 12 week period-we simply won’t have enough teachers to safely staff it.

Hugglespuffed · 30/03/2020 23:48

Yes I agree with fed (sorry it wouldn't let me tag you)
Especially now that pregnant people are on the possible vulnerable list. I know several pregnant people who are teachers and they will be isolating for the 12 weeks..

maddy68 · 30/03/2020 23:49

Schools will be the first to open to enable other workers to go back to work.

Hugglespuffed · 30/03/2020 23:54

@PyongyangKipperbang
I'm pretty sure schools would not cancel the summer holidays because teachers are currently still expected to work and they deserve their holiday. Added to that, many of the schools that are open to key worker children will also be running all over the easter holidays which means teachers are having to voluntarily go in to school.
I think it will be lovely though if things are a bit calmer and more under control in the summer for the kids to have a blast and enjoy the summer holidays without so many strict restrictions. But who knows.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/03/2020 23:59

Schools. He'll want people back work and that means little kids under someone else's care and I'd they're sending the little ones back they'll send the big ones back. So schools first as he's not worried about kids getting it, let any flashes from that die down and then everything else

Paintforkitchen · 31/03/2020 00:01

Dh works for a cinema chain. They’re currently working on the assumption that they’ll be closed for 6 months and hoping it will be less.

Tootletum · 31/03/2020 00:12

Open the tips hoprfully. Council has canned half the collections and closed the tips, so I can imagine huge flytipping in a few weeks.

PyongyangKipperbang · 31/03/2020 00:14

@Hugglespuffed
i agree that it is unlikely, and also hoping the kids get a proper summer hols.

Fingers crossed eh?

StrawberryBlondeStar · 31/03/2020 06:05

Most people I know will not be able to have a normal summer (only if there is a SAHP). My DC (like a lot of their friends) will be in holiday club/playschemes all summer if they are allowed to open/restrictions lifted. I know so many companies begging their employees not to take weeks of holiday off once restrictions are open, otherwise their business are likely to go under. My DH’s company is refusing requests to cancel leave at the moment as they won’t be able to cope with everyone taking their allotted holiday once restrictions are lifted.

whatisforteamum · 31/03/2020 09:01

I work for to a large pub group so takeaways not possible or difficult to set up.My dds place is doing deliveries and booking up in advance. My old workplace is.doing a roaring trade too.
I just feel like the way we are jam packed on Fri Sat Sunday isn't a.good idea. Also restaurants are much more of a luxury really.I am normally a workaholic.I must admit time to eat sleep and just walk everywhere has been lovely.
It has only been a couple of weeks though.

Sinister on another thread about lack of dental provision, one of the MN who is a dentist said to keep broken teeth covered with wax (there's dental wax and also babybel cheese red wax if nothing else!) and also oil of cloves is a traditional painkiller, I think you need to dilute it with a carrier oil before application (olive oil will do). Feel for you. Flowers

AutumnRose1 · 31/03/2020 11:26

I’m in London and worried about rubbish collection too.

How long can people claim furlough money?

OnTheMoors · 31/03/2020 11:38

Schools could open 1st June and do half a week for some years and half for the others . So pupils at least in school for 2 days to get them back into some sort of routine

StrawberryBlondeStar · 31/03/2020 11:45

@AutumnRose1 scheme is open for 3 months from 1 March (So again 1 June). Chancellor said he would extend if needed, but I reckon they either won’t or it will be for a few industries.

Wehttam · 31/03/2020 11:50

I expect manufacturing will be first and then building sites hotels etc.

Non essential stores, restaurants, bars and clubs will be last I hope. We need to keep people out of social settings for as long as possible. I would ideally like bars pubs and restaurants closed until spring 2021 along with theatres and cinemas. Those places are impossible to keep any social distancing policies in place.

Hannah021 · 31/03/2020 11:50

People concerned about parents not being able to return to work should remember that a large population

  • have no children!
  • couples one can stay home and the other can still go to work
  • separate parents where children spend their school days with one parent anyway... so the other can still go to work
  • Many parents don't work anyway to take care of their children...

It should be reasonable to say that those parents who work and take care of children are still a minority in the grand scale of things.
Schools closed first because they are the least important!

Wehttam · 31/03/2020 11:53

Agree Hannah it’s disproportionate on here because of the type of forum this is, however a large majority of professionals have avoided having kids or are waiting to have them at later stages in life.

AutumnRose1 · 31/03/2020 11:56

Strawberry thank you.

So presumably the package ends as soon as people are told it’s okay to return to work?

I think the Tories will look back and and really regret their handling of this.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 31/03/2020 12:37

@AutumnRose1 they haven’t said when it will end. It’s just 3 months to begin with, but if they allow businesses to end they can argue that it shouldn’t be extended. If severe restrictions remain in place they will struggle.
