For Cheltenham fall out look at Ireland’s number for a similar leap. I haven’t had a look but a very large number attend every year.

MurrayTheMonk · 01/04/2020 17:04

Mine isn't a private one so a bit different- like lots we get paid a contract rate from the Local Authority. We don't make a lot of profit as we're a not for profit housing association. Anything we do make goes into maintenance of the building or equipment-though my HA also build elsewhere so they have funds they can dip in to to sub the staff an a bit of surplus.

But in general care is contract to the Local Authority and the value of the contracts has actually gone down in real terms on average by 23% since 2004 (when I first became a manager). Government obvs control the purse strings centrally in terms of social care finance allocation to each LA-there is very little slack in the system, thus it remains terribly paid work for the staff.

Private care homes and places like your McCarthy and Stone/Churchill are the real thieves in all of it. They make plenty of profit but still only pay their staff the going-very poor-rate. Because they can.

Oh I have-in both normal times and now... it falls on deaf ears... Sad

IronNeonClasp · 01/04/2020 17:06

New guy. Must be going down with Cv like flies !

IronNeonClasp · 01/04/2020 17:06

@CrunchyCarrot where are you?

MurrayTheMonk · 01/04/2020 17:07

I'm alright sansa. Feel better than I did last week-just extremely tired and a lot of concern about how long this situation can be sustained work wise or mental health wise for me!

Loire02 · 01/04/2020 17:08

@MurrayTheMonk

Reading your updates I am so sorry for you going through this.
Your boss doesn’t sound honourable trying to renege on a promise.

Stay well

MurrayTheMonk · 01/04/2020 17:10

Thankyou all. I don't mean to sound moany at all... it's helpful to me to give the updates is all, as otherwise as is normally the case, there is no one except DP to listen Sad.

KOKOagainandagain · 01/04/2020 17:10

@NaturalBornWoman - I believe it was Gove

Horehound · 01/04/2020 17:12

He means ppe not phe, no?

IronNeonClasp · 01/04/2020 17:13

3,009 hospital admissions today. She says she hopes this figure has levelled.

They are forecasting peaking next 4 weeks but it's this week and next. And infection takes potentially 14 days to incubate and killed someone in 6 days in work...
I'm getting more and more confused by what's being reported and what is actually happening in real-time.

mrshoho · 01/04/2020 17:20

they didnt answer his question re Germany???

Jade1976 · 01/04/2020 17:22

@ofwarren I hope you are all well.

WhyNotMe40 · 01/04/2020 17:24

Apropos of nothing. Do we know how Boris is?

I really don’t think they are answering the actual questions - just repeating the script

WhyNotMe40 · 01/04/2020 17:28

So fucking frustrating to listen to.

IronNeonClasp · 01/04/2020 17:30

I've just ranted in the new shiny thread about specifically the briefing

MurrayTheMonk · 01/04/2020 17:35

I've literally just watched the briefing and all I could hear was 'blah blah blah' I don't believe a word they are saying any more Sad

KOKOagainandagain · 01/04/2020 17:36

You really need to stop reacting to official figures and talk of green shoots and ending lockdown.

The figures for today or any day are only as good as testing (huge underestimate) and do not represent the trajectory and delay between infection - symptoms - death even before accounting for obvious mistakes in refusing to test or hospitalise in people that go onto develop severe symptoms and even die outside of hospitals.

Growth is still exponential. There is a lag. Don't buy into false hope.

Accept and share best-practice of countries that are doing this better instead of assuming that west is best. Testing, tracing, quarantining, face masks, social distancing, personal hygiene etc. The reason we are facing severe lockdown for months is because we (ie our leaders/managers) didn't do this.

WhyNotMe40 · 01/04/2020 17:39

Keepon. Who are you talking to?

ofwarren · 01/04/2020 17:44

@Jade1976 I'm doing ok thanks.
Day 9 and I managed to go downstairs for 5 hours.
I'm back in bed for now but it feels like an achievement.
My symptoms today have just been chest pain and a burning upper back along with the horrible weakness you feel after having flu.

Helenj1977 · 01/04/2020 17:45

I turn it off when they get to questions. They don't answer them.

No idea on how Boris is. I'm guessing not great as no matt style videos.

My 1 yo started saying what sounded like murder when the press conference was on. She's not wrong. They should have stopped Cheltenham, Crufts, the football matches and concerts. Unbelievable that only 2 and a half weeks ago people were still doing those things.

They have a lot of blood on their hands.

KOKOagainandagain · 01/04/2020 17:50

Sorry - not 'you' in the individual sense but I feel an arse saying 'one'.

On an individual level though it seems worse if you don't get that growth is exponential and there is a lag because too much is invested in a single day's figures (which may be inaccurate) - you (or one) are a passive recipient on a roller coaster. OTOH you (or one) is emotionally prepared for low figures followed by high figures if you (or one) is aware of the trajectory and lag and the expected consequence of NPIs.

mrshoho · 01/04/2020 17:50

It was blatant propaganda but failed in giving the general public the impression that they are in control. They may as well stop with the q&a's as they ignore the actual questions!
