To feel sorry for Boris Johnson

I know people didn’t have a high opinion of him, tbf neither did I before this, but he’s doing his best. He’s doing what experts are advising him to do. He’s ordered temporary hospitals to be built & thousands of ventilators, asked for help through NHS volunteering.

I think he’s coping okay despite his wife being pregnant too, now he’s unwell himself.

What are your opinions?

I don’t want any fights or arguments I’m
Just curious to what others are thinking

One of the worse options is the current leader of the opposition who is 70 and should be self isolating anyway

Jezza was squeezed right up next to Dawn Butler on the opposition frontbench the other day. It was really unfortunate!

Sunnyhopefulness · 28/03/2020 21:51

This would not be an easy job for anyone - he may not be the best choice but he’s certainly not the worst either - time to give the man a break and let him get covid19 done ... this is not the time for political posturing

LittleRootie · 28/03/2020 21:51

hopefully this will be a turning point for him on a personal level & change his view

I really hope so too but I doubt he's capable of such insight

MaxNormal · 28/03/2020 21:51

What wife? The one he cheated on while she was suffering with cancer?

housemdwaswrong · 28/03/2020 21:53

At the beginning of March he claimed to be happily shaking hands with everyone. Hardly sensible.

March 12th he advocated herd immunity.
March 16th Hancock says they are not aiming for that.

Ventilators fromn EU: first they refused because Britain could do it on it's own, later it became because 4 emails went to the spam folder. Oh, and they turned down offers from UK companies to supply them, these companies now supplying ventilators, all set up and safety checked to foreign governments.

He's been behind the curve all the way.

It's a major event. All of his cabinet are new to their posts. It's a hell of a time, and if he'd had any sense he'd have sought support and advice from those with more experience. Typically he didn't.

I think he's handled it appallingly.

Mumto1girl3boys · 28/03/2020 21:53

I've been saying this for the past week or 2. I dont follow politics AT ALL, I have no clue why people think he's an idiot but i feel sorry for him having to deal with this. Hes never come up against something like this before, nobody has. Hes doing what he can. Me, you or Susan from the chippy couldnt do a better job so people need to get off his back

bigchris · 28/03/2020 21:53

time to give the man a break and let him get covid19 done

It's not the same as brexit you know Hmm

raskolnikova · 28/03/2020 21:54

No, I don't. He has lived a completely selfish, immoral existence and now he's totally out of his depth. I really hope we will soon see the end of his political career

This. I'm baffled as to how anyone could believe he's doing a good job.

bigchris · 28/03/2020 21:55

@housemdwaswrong nailed it !

Starlive23 · 28/03/2020 21:56

@esjee I was going to comment but you have basically took the words out of my mouth. You couldn't make it up could you!

I think he's doing really well and I do feel sorry for him having coronavirus.

slummymummy35 · 28/03/2020 21:58

I actually think is he doing ok. Much better than I expected!

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 28/03/2020 21:59

No.
I don't feel sorry for Johnson. Not one titsy teensy bit.
He and his party have spent years decimating public services and are now reliant upon the public sector to deal with this mess.
His party voted down a pay increase for nursing staff whilst awarding themselves high increases.
His decision to put the economy before individuals initially has no doubt costs lives which he so flippantly told us it would.
And I would imagine it will come as a surprise to his actual wife to find out she is pregnant.

PickAChew · 28/03/2020 22:01

It's a relief that he's proved himself to be very different to the orange one.

Lonelycrab · 28/03/2020 22:01

@CendrillonSings oh no I was just about to vote for Corbyn in the upcoming GEConfused

PicturesOfCats · 28/03/2020 22:02

Ventilators fromn EU: first they refused because Britain could do it on it's own, later it became because 4 emails went to the spam folder

Honestly, I don’t know if it’s me, but I don’t get this? The EU quite clearly cannot supply the countries they currently have, let alone adding another one (us) into the mix.
Maybe I’m being dense, but can someone please explain, because I’ve just heard Italy’s death toll is 10,000, they clearly can’t provide enough for Italy and Spain, so how would there have been enough for us as well?

raskolnikova · 28/03/2020 22:03

Me, you or Susan from the chippy couldnt do a better job so people need to get off his back

Frankly I would trust Susan from the chippy over Johnson any day. I bet Susan wouldn't put the emails about the EU ventilators into the spam folder 'accidentally'.

LonerGirl · 28/03/2020 22:03

I think Boris has shown a lot of initiative by seeking other options such as Dyson. Unless I’m missing something

OP posts:
Beerincomechampagnetastes · 28/03/2020 22:04

British companies are building ventilators at cost to NHS. The government approached then weeks ago and it’s been organised behind the scenes and the news broke this morning officially.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 28/03/2020 22:05

Do you mean Dyson who was a massive brexit supporter and tory doner?
That Dyson?
hmmm

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 28/03/2020 22:05

^ this explains the ventilator situation.

CendrillonSings · 28/03/2020 22:06

No, I don't. He has lived a completely selfish, immoral existence and now he's totally out of his depth. I really hope we will soon see the end of his political career

Did you miss the part where he won a landslide majority a few months ago? It was kind of a thing in the news Smile

LonerGirl · 28/03/2020 22:06

@TheWordWomanIsTaken does it really matter at this stage who is making them?

OP posts:
Beerincomechampagnetastes · 28/03/2020 22:08

Dyson has tried to take credit but they aren’t in production for ventilators and won’t be for some time.... in an unprecedented move companies who don’t normally produce ventilators (such as GKN aerospace) have got together putting rivalries aside and thousands will be produced over the coming weeks - all going to the NHS
