To feel sorry for Boris Johnson

I know people didn’t have a high opinion of him, tbf neither did I before this, but he’s doing his best. He’s doing what experts are advising him to do. He’s ordered temporary hospitals to be built & thousands of ventilators, asked for help through NHS volunteering.

I think he’s coping okay despite his wife being pregnant too, now he’s unwell himself.

What are your opinions?

I don’t want any fights or arguments I’m
Just curious to what others are thinking

I’m thinking there are better people to get us through this but there are certainly much worse.

One of the worse options is the current leader of the opposition who is 70 and should be self isolating anyway

Grateful for small mercies

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/03/2020 21:17

My opinion is that he has an excellent team of civil servants and experts advising him and his speech writers are doing really well. He is charismatic and a bit of a chameleon so performs well in front of the cameras. He is undoubtedly under a lot of pressure and I wouldn't want his job for all the money in the world. I wish him well and I hope his partner is OK. I don't think the policy decisions are his idea, but he is showing leadership and is very plausible in this time of crisis, which is a bit of a surprise.

Ohfrigginghellers · 28/03/2020 21:17

Agreed

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 28/03/2020 21:17

I feel sorry for anyone who has got the virus. It sounds a horrible thing to cope with.

It doesn't negate the fact that he's an idiot though.

Brookeinabook · 28/03/2020 21:18

Well he chose to be PM. doing his best is fine if it's your dc or the postie but not what I'm looking for an a PM ideally.

I feel sorry for anybody with coronavirus, so including him, but other than that then no.

PicturesOfCats · 28/03/2020 21:19

I agree OP. I think he’s doing the best under the circumstances, and I wish him well.

Am getting more and more disgusted by the people revelling in his illness, and think peoples true colours are well and truly being shown.

hollieberrie · 28/03/2020 21:19

Not a fan of his at all usually but I think he is doing pretty well, all things considered. It's a tough gig.

LonerGirl · 28/03/2020 21:20

To me he comes across as a nice person who genuinely does care but he’s very overwhelmed like most leaders would be at this stage

OP posts:
beautifulteeth · 28/03/2020 21:20

Oh here we go..

Another left wing Boris bashing thread

It's so boring now

The majority voted. Jeremy and Diane and
Co lost 80 odd seats at the last election

Personally I thank fuck we have Boris

The alternative wouldn't bear thinking about at the moment..

But according to the lefties on here there couldn't be a worse leader than Boris...

Yawn... 🤣

ToTheWindow · 28/03/2020 21:20

I actually feel really sorry for him. I hope he recovers soon and think he is doing well
Considering the circumstances

frazzledasarock · 28/03/2020 21:20

Instead of ordering ventilators from the usual suppliers he sold the contract to Dyson (a Tory donor), who are churning out untested ventilators.

I don’t feel a bit sorry for him.

Lockheart · 28/03/2020 21:21

I feel sorry for anyone who's got the virus, and indeed for any politician who has to deal with this crisis. I include Boris Johnson in that. Very few governments have had to deal with a problem of this scale in peacetime.

That said, I can't help but also feel a slight tinge of schadenfreude, given how ruthless and persistent he has been in his pursuit of the prime ministership, and how much chaos his political manoeuvering has caused. He's finally got what he caused so many problems to get, and it must be a total nightmare.

LonerGirl · 28/03/2020 21:22

I have no intention of this thread becoming a Boris bashing I really do hope it doesn’t. I just wanted a thread to highlight how hard he is trying to juggle his responsibilities and his personal life.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 28/03/2020 21:22

I just can’t be doing with all his bluster

I don’t agree with her politics but Nicola Sturgeon is far better at telling it like it is and commanding authority

Rishi Sunak has also come across very well - calm and collected and telling it like it is

Boris Johnson is suffering hugely because he continues to spout ‘mantras’

He did it over Brexit and he’s doing it now

People are fed up of it but actually now it’s really important

It’s the boy who cried wolf syndrome

Lonelycrab · 28/03/2020 21:23

I don't think the policy decisions are his idea, but he is showing leadership

That doesn’t really make sense, does it?

Much as I dislike him I wish him no harm, and I hope he recovers.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2020 21:23

I hope he recovers soon and his partner stays safe. I think he bears a lot of responsibility for the situation the NHS finds itself in. I don't think he comes across as genuinely caring, in fact I think that's one thing he really struggles with - theask of empathy.

esjee · 28/03/2020 21:24

I think he's a twat for many reasons. I also think the government has displayed poor judgement at times when dealing with this, but they appear to be doing the best they can, if at times possibly messing it up. I don't question their intentions, but I do question their judgement and that's not limited to boris but everyone involved in decision making on this, including the advisors. Only time will really show what was right though and it's a difficult situation and it will be easy to look back in hindsight and know what's right. Harder to always know at the time, when weighing up so many different factors.
Having said that I certainly wouldn't wish a potentially horrible disease on anyone and hope he's well.

LonerGirl · 28/03/2020 21:24

I’m not an expert but I believe he’s ordered ventilators through other companies as so many countries now need these, the fastest way for us to get them is to ask other companies

OP posts:
MondeoFan · 28/03/2020 21:24

I like Boris and think he's doing a Grande Job. First Brexit now this.
It's one hell of a task sorting out this virus coupled with the fact he now has it himself. Defo feel sorry for him

Brookeinabook · 28/03/2020 21:24

how hard he is trying to juggle his responsibilities and his personal life.
Personal life might be easier if he had stayed with one of his wives.
What makes you think he's doing a lot of juggling? No more than any other PM, goes with the job.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/03/2020 21:25

If all the stuff about us missing out on ventilators is true then no, I won't feel sorry for him

Pineappletree33 · 28/03/2020 21:25

I agree. I think he’s doing pretty bloody well considering this something so alien to deal with.

Brookeinabook · 28/03/2020 21:25

First Brexit now this.
Brexit being kinda his fault ...

LonerGirl · 28/03/2020 21:26

@Brookeinabook I don’t think that’s any of our business. Not many prime ministers have had to deal with a pandemic like this before

OP posts:
Selfsettling3 · 28/03/2020 21:29

Boris does have a wife who as far as I’m aware is not pregnant. His girlfriend is pregnant.

He deliberately choose to not be part of an EU scheme that we were specifically invited to but more life saving equipment for the cate of people with COVID 19 yet he chose not to because he thought the U.K. should do it without the EU. He decided to prove a point rather and let people die.
