Article in the Guardian. Really touched me and I thought it was worth sharing.

I've just read this and was similarly moved. So beautifully written... ❤

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 27/03/2020 18:57

Thank you for sharing, that's a beautiful article

Enjoyed this thank you

NewBrideToBe · 28/03/2020 11:38

I think it is dreadful. Self aggrandising dirge. She does not speak for everyone and she does not have insight into this pandemic over everyone else. I have family in Italy and they are appalled by this ridiculous letter. Their view is that this woman is a scaremongering drama queen.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 28/03/2020 11:43

@newbride - Well put.

FedUpWithThisToday · 28/03/2020 11:44

NewBride - how on Earth is that scaremongering?

I thought it was lovely OP x thanks

SmileEachDay · 28/03/2020 11:47

I think it is dreadful. Self aggrandising dirge. She does not speak for everyone and she does not have insight into this pandemic over everyone else

I mean, she’s living in a country where nearly a thousand died yesterday; where bodies are being moved in army trucks and where the lockdown is so severe that you can only go out to buy food sooooo....

NewBrideToBe · 28/03/2020 11:49

It’s scaremongering because of her overuse of the words “you will” do this or that, feel like this and behave like that. All the whole focusing on the negative.

There are plenty of other people who have come through the other side in China and South Korea to make just a couple of countries further ahead from Italy who are much more positive and stoical about the experience.

This letter is self indulgent emotional vomit.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 28/03/2020 11:51

@smile - friends of mine in Italy still go to work everyday, and dare I say, not what I would class as essential.

Thoughtlessinengland · 28/03/2020 11:53

Yep I really really really dislike the style of writing - really vomit inducing.

cushioncovers · 28/03/2020 11:55

I think it's spot on. Thanks for the link op

StirCrazed · 28/03/2020 11:58

Oh my God. What a crock.

imausernamenotanumber · 28/03/2020 11:59

I’m with NewBride. I thought it was dreadfully self-indulgent.

imausernamenotanumber · 28/03/2020 12:00

It’s like a teenager who fancies themselves as a writer write it. Cringey. And also unhelpful - people are scared enough without this sort of end of the world woe.

imausernamenotanumber · 28/03/2020 12:00

*wrote it.

Haffiana · 28/03/2020 12:00

This needs to be kept on facebook for the huns to drool over.

user1495884620 · 28/03/2020 12:01

Thank you NewBrideToBe - I saw the letter earlier and thought it was a load of bilge and couldn't understand why people were saying it was well written. Couldn't put my finger on the word I wanted to use but self-indulgent sums it up perfectly.

pasanda · 28/03/2020 12:01

Hated it. Not what we need to hear right now. Focussing on positive stuff is much more helpful imo

LoveIsLovely · 28/03/2020 12:02

I think it is nonsense. What hysterical rubbish. Thanking my lucky stars I live in Korea where people shrug and get on with it.

I can't believe how over the top people are being about GASP having to stay indoors for a while. Oh except for exercise and food shops. That's normal life for so many people.

ssd · 28/03/2020 12:03

I'm anxious enough. I won't read it.

StarsThatTwinkle · 28/03/2020 12:05

It's nothing revelationary. Just a summary of what we all know anyway. Confused

Batshittery · 28/03/2020 12:06

@StirCrazed - I couldn't have put it better.

ssd Thanks

ssd · 28/03/2020 12:09

Actually, I just read it. It's not as bad as I thought. I quite liked it.

FaFoutis · 28/03/2020 12:12

I liked the bit where the 'Literati' become irrelevant. Obviously they don't like her writing much.
